POPSTaliban kills 70 Pakistanis in suicide attack The Kamra Air Weapon Complex and Heavy Industries Taxila are also contained within the Wah Cantt. Taxila "is devoted to land combat systems," Global Security notes, while Kamra is believed to be connected with Pakistan's nuclear weapons program. The Pakistani Ordnance Factories are believed to store nuclear weapons at a "screwdriver level" - meaning the components are stored disassembled and can be assembled within hours of use.

POPSal-Qaeda Confirms Death Of Arms Expert: report DUBAI (AFP) — Al-Qaeda has confirmed the death of a chemical and biological weapons expert whose killing in a suspected US strike was reported by Pakistan, an Islamist militant website said on Sunday. Abu Khabab al-Masri was among a group of "heroes" who joined "the caravans of martyrs," said a statement signed by Mustafa Abu al-Yazid, Al-Qaeda's general commander in Afghanistan. Its authenticity could not be independently confirmed. Pakistani officials had said that a July 28 missile strike in Pakistan's South Waziristan tribal area killed Abu Khabab al-Masri, an Egyptian militant whose full name was Midhat Mursi al-Sayid Umar.

POPSAfghanistan is “becoming a sort of surreal hunting estate" War Gone Bad There is no mystery as to why things have gone increasingly badly for the United States and its allies. As the United States steps up its air war, civilian casualties have climbed steadily over the past two years. Nearly 700 were killed in the first three months of 2008, a major increase over last year. In a recent incident, 47 members of a wedding party were killed in Helmand Province. In a society where clan, tribe, and blood feuds are a part of daily life, that single act sowed a generation of enmity. Anatol Lieven, a professor of war at King’s College London, says that a major impetus behind the growing resistance is anger over the death of family members and neighbors. Lieven says it is as if Afghanistan is “becoming a sort of surreal hunting estate, in which the U.S. and NATO breed the very terrorists they then track down.”

POPSFrom an inside source in Afghanistan The root causes of the trouble in Afghanistan are twofold: (1) the slow (and frightening!) disintegration of Pakistan and (2) Iran's alliance with the Taliban. Pakistan can't control its border or northwest territories. This gives the Taliban and AQ a free area to operate and a porous border that they can cross to attack US troops. Just as troubling, Iran is training and equipping the Taliban with even more deadly tactics and weapons. Of note is that the Taliban has begun employing the same deadly EFPs that Sadr's goons use against US troops in Iraq. These may be wonky points but it's safe to say that Obama's policies would be disastrous for both problems. I think it's under-appreciated just how fragile Pakistan is. Obama has said that he would invade Pakistan. That could be the tipping point that throws the country into chaos -- a scary thought for a country with nukes and a habit of allying itself with terrorists.

POPS‘Hook’ Imam Denied Extradition Appeal: To Stand Trial In U.S. They also say he assisted extremists who kidnapped 16 foreign tourists in Yemen in 1998. Three British tourists and one Australian visitor were killed in a shootout between Yemeni security forces and the captors. Al-Masri also is accused of facilitating terrorist training in Afghanistan. The former imam at London’s Finsbury Park Mosque, al-Masri is one of Britain’s best-known Islamist radicals. The Egyptian-born preacher is blind in one eye and has hooks in place of the hands he says he lost fighting Soviet troops in Afghanistan in the 1980s. Under his leadership the Finsbury Park mosque became a magnet for extremists. Its worshippers included Sept. 11 conspirator Zacarias Moussaoui and “shoe bomber” Richard Reid.

POPSIran Supplying Equipment To Taliban To Fight British Evidence found by UK special forces is understood to concern the supply of the same bomb-making equipment Iran provides to insurgents in Iraq, namely components for explosively formed projectiles, or EFPs. It is not clear whether the bomb that last week killed four British SAS reservists in Helmand province was such a device, although British military commanders fear that increasing Iranian involvement in Afghanistan may render irrelevant attempts to increase the number of armoured vehicles in the conflict. Yesterday four coalition soldiers were killed by a bomb in the province of Kandahar. Meanwhile, as investigations continue into the use of Snatch Land Rovers in southern Afghanistan in which the four UK troops died last week, new figures obtained by The Observer reveal that more than 700 armoured vehicles that could be deployed to protect British personnel in Helmand are out of action.

POPSmessage: We can't save them from themselves. The U.S. is currently spending hundreds of millions of dollars to pay the monthly salaries of some 600,000 armed fighters in the three rival ethnic camps in Iraq. These fighters -- Shiite, Kurd and Sunni Arab -- are not only antagonistic but deeply unreliable allies. The Sunni Arab militias have replaced central government officials, including police, and taken over local administration and security in the pockets of Iraq under their control. They have no loyalty outside of their own ethnic community. Once the money runs out, or once they feel strong enough to make a thrust for power, the civil war in Iraq will accelerate with deadly speed. The tactic of money-for-peace failed in Afghanistan. The U.S. doled out funds and weapons to tribal groups in Afghanistan to buy their loyalty, but when the payments and weapons shipments ceased, the tribal groups headed back into the embrace of the Taliban.

POPSWe Need Our OWN Government To Unite Behind Victory In Operation Iraqi Freedom He's just trying to exploit democratic boilerplate about OIF being a diversion from “the good war” (OEF). He’s wrong on many levels. We are winning in OIF. I just left Baghdad. We have everything we need except for our OWN government to be united behind victory in OIF (Operation Iraqi Freedom). 11:32 PM OBAMA EITHER LIED, OR IS "BONEHEADEDLY" (TO USE HIS WORD) REPEATING LEFT-WING AND ENEMY PROPAGANDA. THIS COMMENT PROVES OBAMA IS UNFIT TO BE COMMANDER IN CHIEF. WILL THE MSM POINT OUT THE IDIOCY AND INCORRECTNESS OF OBAMA'S COMMENT? NO EFFIN' WAY.

POPSal-Qaeda Prepares Dual-Track Offensive In Iraq Just In Time For Jan 20, 2009
February 11, 2008, 2:11 PM (GMT+02:00) Just in time for President Bush’s first – and last - Middle East tour, al Qaeda’s new operational arm, Fatah al-Islam, completed its redeployment from Lebanon on two warfronts: Iraq and the Gaza Strip. Al Qaeda has managed to pull together two fronts for twin campaigns orchestrated by a single commander, Fatah al-Islam’s Palestinian chief Shaker al-Abessi, from his new base in Iraq. Fatah al-Islam under Abessi’s command pinned the Lebanese army down at the northern Nahar al-Badr camp for four months in the summer of 2007 before being driven out. With his top command, Abessi was able to access Iraq from Syria in the last month by transiting a purportedly sealed border. According to our sources, the Palestinian-led terrorist force has reached North Iraq and is taking reinforcements from Lebanon and Syria preparatory to joining the main al Qaeda body fighting US and Iraqi forces in other parts of the country.

POPS Coalition, Afghan Forces Defeat Taliban The enemy moved to secondary positions in an attempt to flank friendly forces as the battle escalated. Afghan forces identified the new enemy fighting positions and engaged with small arms, machine guns and precision air strikes. The insurgents attempted to hide among the civilian population by moving into homes. "The enemy attempted to take advantage of the historic Afghan hospitality by using civilian homes as fighting positions," the Afghan commander said. "Fortunately, the residents recognized the Taliban were abusing their hospitality and wanted no part of it. "The (Afghan forces) and the citizens of Now Zad both demonstrated their resolve to eliminate the Taliban menace in northern Helmand province," Belcher said. "Continued collaboration like we saw today is the key to bringing peace and stability to this country."

POPSWhat could go wrong here? I sure hope I'm wrong. But this brings up memories of Iran-Contra, etc. The result will be huge sales for the US Gov't, but will standardize the NATO ammo, which could be a REAL problem on the battlefield. From an ex-military person's opinion.

POPSBush Handed Blueprint To Seize Pakistan's Nukes "I have been arguing the opposite. We cannot invade, only work with the consent of elements of the Pakistan military," he said. "But we do have to calculate how to quantify and then respond to a crisis that is potentially as much a threat as Soviet tanks once were. Pakistan may be the next big test."

POPSNeocon's Plan to Seize Pakistan's Nukes This Kagan is part of the neoconservative Kagan family, attached to the Project for New American Century, the one's that brought you the Iraq war. His profile is here. http://rightweb.irc-online.org/profile/1240 Remember Musharreff was installed by (CIA assisted) coupe in 1999, and recently declared Martial Law, which was just lifted. Pakistan's WMD is real, but it is there country, and they are no threat. But it is filled with Islamics very angry at the U.S. for meddling in their country (the coupe) and want to get it back from Musharreff. The U.S. has no sovereign authority to invade another country or make another pre-emptive move. But blow-back could be a real threat for all that the U.S. has provoked over there. Remember the earlier clip too that Israel security firms are guarding the U.S. nuke supply...so if anything happens...
