DarrenTooCool
by DarrenTooCool  12-1-2007
Oh man, I just LOVE this! Dolby, Hancock, HoJo and Stevie all on stage at the same time in 1985! This is just the best!!! Be sure to read ALL of the story behind the performance, which I only barely clipped above.

In Japan, When Word Was Wed to Image
shankargallery
by shankargallery  5-18-2007
The exhibition, organized by Felice Fischer, the Philadelphia museum’s longtime curator of Japanese art, with Kyoko Kinoshita, assistant curator, includes many important loans from Japanese museums — among them several works designated as national treasures — and is accompanied by an excellent and hefty catalog. Taiga’s renown, along with the record-keeping traditions of Japan and the affectionate esteem in which he was held by his fellow artists and students, means that a lot is known about his life, travels, friendships and dealings. Versed in Chinese painting and poetry of all periods, but especially that of the literati artists of the Ming and Qing dynasties; familiar with the reigning schools of official Japanese art; inculcated with Neo-Confucian thought and interested in Daoism and Buddhism, Taiga was exceptionally erudite but not an aesthete; his work often has a visceral directness. He infused his copies of Chinese landscape paintings with a sense of reality gained from ext

SoundPlant
skwirlinator
by skwirlinator  4-15-2006    1
Soundplant 26.1 is a self-contained digital audio performance program that turns your computer keyboard into a fully customizable sample-triggering device. It allows the assignment of sound files of unlimited size to virtually any keyboard keys, with no external devices needed and no MIDI involved. It can be used as a drum pad, to add a live track to an already made song, to mix together tracks in realtime, to create music or loops from scratch, to quickly sketch sound designs, to give new life to old sounds, or as a performance, presentation, or installation tool. Because it is not a synthesizer and instead uses your own digital samples (it's a 'software sampler'), Soundplant is a virtually limitless electronic instrument. A simple graphic interface provides for drag-and-drop, point-and-click configuration of each key, including several options which control the way each sound is triggered, along with pitch, offsets, looping, volume, and panning. Sounds can be easily batch assi
