Flu Symptoms: What You Might Feel
merrie
by merrie  10-28-2009    1
... and just plain feeling sick. Swine flu may also cause vomiting and diarrhea. These flu symptoms usually last for 3 to 4 days, but cough and tiredness may linger for up to 2 weeks after the fever has gone away. Other family members or close contacts often have a similar illness. For in-depth information, see WebMD's Children and Flu. Children and Flu Some parents think the flu is a stomach bug. But while children may have nausea and/or vomiting with flu, the key influenza symptoms in children include a high fever, chills and shakes, body aches, and a dry hacking cough. http://www.webmd.com/cold-and-flu/flu-guide/children-and-flu-influenza

CBS Reveals That Swine Flu Cases Seriously Overestimated
merrie
by merrie  10-26-2009    1
CBS reports that in late July 2009 the CDC advised states to STOP testing for H1N1 flu, and they also stopped counting individual cases. Their rationale for this, according to CBS News, was that it was a waste of resources to test for H1N1 flu because it was already confirmed as an epidemic. So just like that virtually every person who visited their physician with flu-like symptoms since late July was assumed to have H1N1, with no testing necessary because, after all, there's an epidemic. It's interesting to note that at the same time as the CDC decided the H1N1 epidemic warranted no further testing for cases due to its epidemic status, Finnish health authorities actually downgraded the threat of swine flu. In late July the health ministry and the National Institute for Health and Welfare (THL) in Finland actually removed swine flu from a list of diseases considered dangerous to the public because the majority of cases recovered without medication or hospital care!

Swine Flu - Child Killer!
foxyarse
by foxyarse  10-26-2009
During her four month long hospital stay, Aubrey Opdyke experienced 6 lung collapses and detrimental seizures. She spent 5 long weeks in coma. She blew up like a balloon, due to high-pressure ventilation until "she looked like she weighed 400 pounds," said Bryan Opdyke, Aubrey's husband. Many families have faced derivative health problems due to swine flu. Several infants have died and parents have been left to face the horror. But, seldom do they volunteer to come out in the open and let the world know of the terrible ordeal that they have endured. The Opdykes chose to avoid a life of silence because they "wanted to get it out there, how dangerous it could be." Mr. Opdyke said, "We have friends who get flu symptoms and say, 'Oh, I’m not going to a doctor,' and we say, ‘Do you not understand what we went through?’ I can’t imagine why there’s so much nonchalance." It may be tiresome and difficult for them to tell everybody about how their 4 year old daughter, Hope, lost her sister

"Risk from swine flu vaccine 'greater than catching virus"
The Infowarrior
by The Infowarrior  10-2-2009    2
Showing World Health Organisation (WHO) graphs about the rise and fall of the H1NI virus around the world, he told his audience that staying informed was the most important thing anyone could do regarding potentially risky infectious diseases. He suggested there may be a lot of under-reporting of the H1N1 virus now in cases where the symptoms are relatively mild. “It seems that a lot more people have had the virus undetected than the WHO thinks and if this is the case, we won’t see a second wave of the H1N1 virus because so many people will have developed the antibodies against it.” He also questioned the potential effectiveness of a vaccine based on the current strain of the H1N1 virus if a more virulent form of the virus develops. “The real risk is if the virus is transferred back to pigs and from them back to humans again. The current strain has probably been circulating in pigs for 10-17 years, according to a paper in Nature Biotechnology,” said Dr Verkerk.

28 Pregnant Women Dead From H1N1 Swine Flu in U.S.
kkcapricorn
by kkcapricorn  10-2-2009
Fortunately, there's a lot pregnant women can do. Even though pregnant women are advised to avoid many medications, the flu drug Tamiflu is safe for pregnant women -- and should be given to them at the first sign of flu symptoms. "Antiviral medicine can be a very important treatment for pregnant women who have respiratory symptoms or influenza-like illness," Schuchat said. Moreover, the H1N1 swine flu vaccine and the seasonal flu vaccine -- the kinds that are given as a shot, not the kind given as a nasal spray -- are safe for use during pregnancy. Obstetricians and nurse midwives are urged to play a role. "As the vaccine becomes available in appropriate formulations, we hope pregnant women and their caregivers will be taking advantage of it," Schuchat said. "We encourage caregivers to either vaccinate pregnant women or refer them to a place they can be vaccinated."

Hysteria, not H1N1, taxing healthcare
4ensic

An outbreak of hovering parents nationwide causes the truly ill to wait for care. There are fees for unnecessarily setting off burglar alarms and fire alarms, how about private MD's charging more for Helicopter Hannah bringing in her child during an epidemic of a viral disease which has no cure when the child is merely in discomfort. What passes as "education" by the MSM is often just scaremongering to lift ratings. Maybe a set of guidelines for when to actually seek medical help in a report warning of deaths of toddlers would be responsible.

Why Millions of Americans Don't Need a Swine Flu Vaccine
The Infowarrior
by The Infowarrior  9-16-2009    6
"That's because many of those who were infected by swine flu never had any idea they were infected at all. They were so-called "symptomless carriers," because they never experienced a sniffle or other flu-like symptoms. Their immune systems conquered swine flu automatically and effectively, creating antibodies and overcoming the infection by relying on fundamental human physiology. Even for those who got sick, virtually everyone survived the sickness. After a few days of extra rest in bed (and hopefully some nutritional supplementation), they were able to kick the virus and return to normal life. This is all a normal part of beating any flu. All these millions of people who were infected by H1N1 and didn't die have naturally made their own swine flu antibodies. They are now immune to the swine flu, and they now have zero risk of being infected or killed by this H1N1 swine flu in the future."

Another round of scare tactics to consolidate government control of health care. Although this could be a real pandemic, who is to make that call? Should the CDC or another Self Appointed Czar, or just another reason to build a civilian security force? Are we heading toward liberty or tyranny? Everyone needs to stop and think, and look at the man in the mirror, before any rash action is taken.

Swine flu could hospitalize 2 million in U.S. this winter
kkcapricorn
by kkcapricorn  8-26-2009
The figures are not a prediction but a possibility, said epidemiologist Marc Lipsitch of the Harvard School of Public Health, who helped prepare the 86-page report that is available on the White House website. Researchers expect the high incidence of infections because the new flu is dramatically different from strains that have been circulating in recent years, so that the bulk of the population has no residual immunity. "This isn't the flu that we are used to," said Kathleen Sebelius, secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services, at a news conference at the CDC headquarters in Atlanta. "We won't know until we are in the middle of the flu season how serious the threat will be."

UK Study: Over 50% of Children Have Tamiflu Side-Effects
blueridge

Note the side effects listed. It is also being over-prescribed according to a health expert since the UK government setup a website to by-pass doctors for patients to obtain the drug. Peter Holden, the British Medical Association’s lead expert on swine flu, suggested that Tamiflu was being overused and did not need to be offered to everyone with mild symptoms.

UK Government Panics, Prepares Mass Flu Vaccinations
blueridge
by blueridge  7-13-2009    3
...for total population, all based upon one man's death, the first who had "no underlying health conditions", despite thousands of other cases without trouble? Over-reaction by hyper-militant government that no one really believes cares about the average citizen. This is irrational. From Times UK: About 15 people have died of swine flu in Britain, but most of those infected get only mild symptoms. According to the latest figures from the Health Protection Agency, the UK has had 9,718 confirmed cases of the disease. Swine Flu vaccines in the U.S. decades ago caused terrible side effects on the nervous system of Americans. The Obama administration is hinting at similar measures in the U.S.
