POPSEnvironmental cars Small U.S. manufacturers like Phoenix Motorcars’ and California’s ZAP (Zero Air Pollution) are giving green cars their best shot, but taking on the big U.S. three may still make for a rough ride. While Chevrolet’s 2008 Malibu Hybrid gets only slightly better gas mileage than the gas powered version, the electric Volt is scheduled for limited production by the end of 2010. According to Chevrolet’s web site, “We've placed a huge priority on getting the Volt to production as soon as possible.” Saturn hopes to stay in the race with their VUE compact SUV and Aura green line, and taking a step in the right direction, Ford plans to retool truck plants to hopefully build green cars. DaimlerChrysler, like Canadian manufacturers ZENN Motor Co. and Dynasty ElectricCar Corp., released several low-speed, neighborhood class vehicles in 2008. Very limited mileage ranges and top speeds less than 30 mph may keep these green cars out of the race and well hidden behind the grandstands.

POPSLives of the Rich & Famous: McCains own 13 cars But, hey, with all those houses, and errands to run... There was a time when I had no automobile at all ... (Barack and Michelle have one between them, BTW.) Perhaps a good economic stimulus plan would be a giveaway of the McCains' extra houses and cars. Hey, we live in America - they could say - we've got a right to be rabid materialists.

POPSGreen technology creating 'green collar' jobs I stand strongly behind my belief that if this country committed ourselves to becoming energy independent with the same determination that we committed to putting a man on the moon, that we could do it and we could create millions of new jobs in the process. It would be an enormous driver of economic growth and strengthen our leverage in the Middle East because we would no longer be reliant on their oil.

POPSNext They Will Be Singing "I'm an Oscar Meyer Weiner" You see, according to their plan I'm the enemy, 'cause I like to think; I like to read. I'm into freedom of speech and freedom of choice. I'm the kind of guy likes to sit in a greasy spoon and wonder - "Gee, should I have the T-bone steak or the jumbo rack of barbecued ribs with the side order of gravy fries?" I WANT high cholesterol. I wanna eat bacon and butter and BUCKETS of cheese, okay? I want to smoke a Cuban cigar the size of Cincinnati in the non-smoking section. I want to run through the streets naked with green Jell-o all over my body reading Playboy magazine. Why? Because I suddenly might feel the need to, okay, pal? I've SEEN the future. Do you know what it is? It's a 47-year-old virgin sitting around in his beige pajamas, drinking a banana-broccoli shake, singing "I'm an Oscar Meyer Wiener".

POPSKnights Of The Planet Gore Michigan Republican Party Chairman Saul Anuzis hammered Obama for his insistence on auto job-killing, mandated fuel-mileage standards (so-called CAFE laws). "That shows how out of touch he is with Michigan voters," thundered Anuzis. "He's pandering to San Francisco liberals and environmentalists who would just as soon we not have cars." Yet, those words of support only highlight McCain’s similarities to Obama. On CAFE, for example, McCain himself has been no friend to the auto industry. In 2002, he co-sponsored a bill with John Kerry hiking mileage mandates by 30 percent — a proposal that ultimately became law last year over loud Big 3 protests. On drilling, McCain quickly steps on his message of “oil independence” by opposing drilling in ANWR — just as his opponent does. As for nuclear power, McCain’s strategy has serious flaws — beginning with the fact that the candidate doesn’t seem to know the difference between electricity and motor fuel.

POPSThose Damn Liberals Intolerance, hate, prejudice. Still alive and very active in large portions of the US. Incidents like this remind us to never become complacent and assume that actions like this are rare or isolated. Almost 8,000 hate crimes in 2006. And according to the Southern Poverty Law Center they are on the rise.
