But whatever happened yesterday, I have a sneaking suspicion the flying Jiffy Pop balloon was not originally conceived, built and being tested as an innovative commuting vehicle. It’s not for nothing Shepard Smith and everyone else was comparing that thing to a UFO yesterday. Maybe, like the Richard Dreyfuss character in ”Close Encounters of the Third Kind,” Richard Heene was just strangely compelled to make his experimental 3DLAV commuting device look like a traditional Roswell-inspired flying saucer hoax.

POPS The Sell-Phone Revolution Already, mobile services use area codes, Zip Codes, and even Global Positioning System (GPS) data to return results for nearby businesses in response to a search for, say, coffee shops. The next step is to serve an ad for a steaming cup of java on a mobile Web page just as the cell-phone Web surfer is passing a Starbucks (SBUX ). Within five years, online ad networks such as TACODA and Specific Media Inc. plan to apply behavioral techniques"using surfing data"to target ads to broadband-enabled digital television. It's not hard to imagine the day when multiple TVs tuned to the same channel in the same household will serve up different ads. "There is no question behavioral targeting will be a major component of television," says Dave Morgan, TACODA's founder and chairman. This is a perfect example of how local communities can get things done without wasting money. The only reason gov't could not have done it so fast is because of archiac laws and processes that are in place that allowing contracting companies to take advantage of any $$ being put out for items like this and it is even worse a Federal level. One can't blame government employees since many want things to get done faster, better, and at a lower cost, but lobbyists, congress, and others get in the way and force them to spend our taxes dollars with specific contractors, etc. This example here shows that many have been milking the government (local, state, fed) out of $ for years and continue to do so with projects that can be done in days or weeks, instead of months or years. It is our tax dollars being wasted and it is time that we start demanding faster and less expensive delivery cycles at all levels of government and letting government managers get the best labor and the cheapest
