POPSSTUPID NATION By Rich Lowry
Stupid enough to think increased preventive care will save the government money, just because President Barack Obama constantly repeats it despite all the independent studies to the contrary. Stupid enough to believe that a program with no cost controls that can be discerned by the Congressional Budget Office will control costs. Stupid enough not to worry that Obama's proposed superteam of technocrats operating outside normal political controls " the so-called Independent Medicare Advisory Council " will resort to rationing when costs continue to spiral upward. Stupid enough to consider it wise to use several billion dollars in cuts from Medicare to create a new entitlement rather than to forestall Medicare's own looming insolvency, currently projected for 2017. Stupid enough not to notice that the "public option" was explicitly designed by the left as a stealthy path to single-payer, even as liberals continue to talk and write about its ultimate purpose openly.

POPSEwwwww, sorry, but I'll pass... I haven't had a full blown cold in 4 years, ever since I swore off the flu shots and religiously started using Zicam and vitamin D. As long as I start with the zinc therapy & mega-dose D within the first day or two of symptoms. But, if I DO get a cold, sorry, I'm going to blow my nose versus letting it flow down my face.

POPS Voters Fail the Test Not only would citizens be smarter, but also newspapers might be saved. Announcements of newsroom cuts, which ultimately hurt quality, have become routine. Just this week, USA Today announced the elimination of about 20 positions, while the Newark Star-Ledger, as it cuts its news staff by 40 percent, lost almost its entire editorial board in a single day. What's behind the dumbing down of America? Out of 2,500 American quiz-takers, including college students, elected officials and other randomly selected citizens, nearly 1,800 flunked a 33-question test on basic civics. In fact, elected officials scored slightly lower than the general public with an average score of 44 percent compared to 49 percent. Only 0.8 percent of all test-takers scored an "A." http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/11/25/AR2008112502104.html

POPSBisphenol linked to Health Concerns The FDA will never declare Bisphenol unsafe - the FDA is criminally negligent and has been for years. I cannot think of a single case when it put the health of Americans before the fiscal health of corporations.

POPSEconomic Models Predict Obama Win by 'Decent Margin' After years and years of claiming to be the fiscally responsible party, the GOP's cred on economic issues has tanked. The "trickle down" economics that Republicans have adopted since Reagan have turned out to be a bust, mostly because it's a bass-ackward idea that wealth moves down the economic ladder, not up. It was always a welfare program for the wealthy and that's never been so apparent as it is today. So McCain's only hope is that lunatic mathematics magically begins working before now and Nov. Frankly, I don't think there's much chance of that.

POPS'Cut not sink' emissions says expert
Many things as our history has shown can't be, and should not be tested while being put into practice. A quick study of our history of DIY efforts shows us that. We still have trouble learning the hard way. I have trouble imagining many of our solutions doing more than taking a system that is unbalanced and making it more unbalanced. Many a persons famous last words have been 'this time it will be different.- and better'. Which can be clearly stupid, and the reason they are last words. We certainly need to give nature more credit and respect t that we are. It has its own means of self correction. We can work out how to work according to the principles of nature, rather than our own vanity, or we'll be corrected out of existence. Still, a new thread could start 'Homo Novalis' but it doesn't take very many individuals to establish the start of a new line. the rest of us may soon be obsolete. (soon in evolutionary time) and a subject in achaeology classes. Existential aversion therapy

POPSSex Disease Epidemic Among Teen Girls the high price of promiscuity, that no one dares to condemn anymore. It is irrational behavior when sensual gratification becomes the predominant behavior motive of humans. Even animals have their limited "seasons" which is solely for the purpose of reproduction. The fact that "hos" is now become a commonly used term proves that it is based upon behavior that is no longer scorned, but promoted in all media. Is there no relation between these diseases and the harmful behavior associated directly with it? To fight the diseases without addressing the behavior would be irrational and stupid.

POPSThe Poor Will Always Be With Us One in three! America looks more and more like a third world country. Meanwhile billions of dollars are being thrown into stupid, useless wars. What can be said, Mr and Mrs America? Next time you see a homeless person on the street, think about what they would have chosen to spend the money on.

POPSNeo-Cons on Iran: From Ignorant to downright Insane This is a worthy article in general - one of the better ones you'll see fro Krugman (although it is still annoyingly conversational, at least he isn't Maureen Dowd!) He makes a good point: that fear is what our leaders embrace, not courage. I'm sick and tired of Americans who are scared. I for one am not scared of terrorists, and anyone who lives their life in fear is an idiot. (Probably a manipulated idiot.) But the real gem is when Krugman calls it like it is on Iran. Podhorertz and others like him have departed so far from reality that they are basically making things ups as they go along. I expect next that Commentary will be linking Iran to Voldemort, Darth Vader, and the Dark Lord Sauron. They are so blatantly disconnected from reality, and yet, people listen to them! That's the part I don't understand. Even a student in a High School Social Studies class should be able to tell you the difference between Iran and Al Qaeda.

POPSWi-Fi: Children at risk from 'electronic smog' I has this debate with the rest of the IT team at my company last year (I am an IT consultant). Companies see the cost savings of not using physical wired network - no wire cost, and no eletrician cost to put in the cabling - and really don't want to know anything about the health effects of RF radiation. Humans are electrical beings because cells are electrical, and the nervous system is too. It seems obvious that EMR would have potentially negative effects on humans, and jumping on to Wi-Fi without examining any ill-effects is stupid IMO. There is massive money backing the Mobile and Wi-Fi industry, because it is a huge money earner, so I wouldn't expect anything to be done any time soon.
