Are American Voters Stupid or Rationally Ignorant?
blueridge
by blueridge  Today 2:15 AM
Americans vote ignorantly because they willingly limit what they research because there is little incentive for one person who cannot individually make very much difference. This also explains why information from another viewpoint, or party, is rashly dismissed out of hand without consideration or deliberation, for mere convenience. Listen to this short podcast from CATO for the interesting analysis which has alot of merit. This is where Democracy fails, and why Presidents (like Bush) can be elected with less than 23% of potential voters (about 50% eligible do not vote for various reasons, including disgust): the rational decisions of individuals create a dysfunctional collective outcome

Palin and Her Followers are frightening
oscarrob
by oscarrob  Yesterday 5:29 AM    1
I think that says that you abused your power, if I read correctly. This kind of parsing of words is disingenuous in the extreme. It is also either arrogant or stupid to suggest someone read the report knowing they will find Finding Number One. It is hard to believe that John McCain can be trusted with anything if he is suggesting that we should trust Sarah Palin. Someone who abuses her power by using it to further her personal ends in the context of her sister’s nasty divorce, and sees nothing wrong with it, frightens me. Its like the Mafia, don’t cross a family member, your livelihood and your reputation could be in danger. But then, this is what frightened me about the Bush/Cheney Texas Mafia, so I guess I’m just a weenie.

Panel says Palin abused her authority
darkeforce
by darkeforce  10-11-2008
After seeing the cavalier way that Palin treats everything, it should be no surprise to find out that the Alaska panel found her guilty of abusing her authority in firing an underling who didn't aid her personal agenda in getting an ex-brother-in-law fired. Hopefully this will kill some of the unwarranted support she's gotten for John McCrazy; at least the support from people who aren't just plain stupid.

I'm not even going to mention how wrong these people are regarding their political arguments. Why are people who are obviously not at work themselves deriding other people for not being at work? Seriously? That's just stupid. I wish I could feel more pity for these people since they are so obviously trapped in their own ignorance, fear and hatred. Really, where does that come from? Palin eats hate and winks while playing to the cameras, but McCain should be ashamed that he has fostered this.

"If I then went on to say that I'd rather fuck a dead pig than Governor Palin, that should not be construed in any way as a personal attack." Senator Obama refused to apologise to the Governor, insisting it would take too long to translate the words into her 'retarded hillbilly language'.

That is why the economy cratered and you're asking us to pour more money down that same hole, hopefully we aren't that stupid again.

Getting You To Eat Crap
ColoradoRight
by ColoradoRight  10-1-2008    2
So, you can see how some people might think, “Well, maybe I should try this crap instead of cheeseburger today. Maybe I’m just missing something.” Still, despite all the media attempts to confuse people, at the end of the day most people are going to say, “That’s crap and that’s a cheeseburger. I don’t eat crap; I eat cheeseburgers.” And that’s why Republicans win. Well… in other election years.

Dems: Covering Up The Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac Scam

Clearly, and I do mean very clearly, the Democrats have been lying about their role in causing the financial collapse of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, and are lying about not having been warned over and over about the problems by Republicans. They, the Dems, actually defended what was going on. These people are either very very stupid, very very crooked, or, more likely, both. These are the kind of disgusting idiots that Obama surrounds himself with.

I do not normally yell, but IT’S THE DERIVATIVES, STUPID! I felt like clipping the whole article (it isn't very long, but longer than ClipNotes allows). It does a good job explaining what is going on and sets forth a possible solution. "I know no safe depository of the ultimate powers of society but the people themselves; and if we think them not enlightened enough to exercise their control with a wholesome discretion, the remedy is not to take it from them, but to inform their discretion by education." —Thomas Jefferson "Educate and inform the whole mass of the people... They are the only sure reliance for the preservation of our liberty." ~ Thomas Jefferson "A popular government without popular information or the means of acquiring it, is but a Prologue to Farce, or a Tragedy, or perhaps both. Knowledge will forever govern ignorance and a people who mean to be their own Governors, must arm themselves with the power which knowledge gives." ~ James Madison

Impeached Federal Judge Alcee Hastings' Stupid Rant
merrie
by merrie  9-25-2008    1
Hastings, who is African-American, was explaining what he intended to tell his Jewish constituents about the presidential race. “Anybody toting guns and stripping moose don’t care too much about what they do with Jews and blacks. So, you just think this through,” Hastings added as the room erupted in laughter and applause. Let's face it. There is no way a Republican could say anything this foul and still have a career. Then again... There aren't any impeached Republican judges currently serving in the US House. The New Editor has more on this disgusting attack on Sarah Palin by a Democratic leader. To Florida Democrat Rep. Alcee Hastings, people who own guns and hunt apparently hate Jews and Blacks. Seriously. And 'enlightened' people who hear a politician say this react by laughing and cheering. Rush Limbaugh Hates Mexicans - But in a Funny Way!
dulios
by dulios  9-22-2008    10
My problem with Rush is not that he's a bigot. Bigots are actually funny to me in the way that people who still wear parachute pants give me a chuckle. What bothers me about Rush's ilk is that they don't actually have the stones to be real racists or women haters or anti- Semites. Though they irresponsibly fan the flames of hatred, they don't own the strength of their convictions. When they are called on their stuff they run back to their bunker, which is heavily fortified for a reason, crying "but it was only a joke!" Like when Rush joked that Obama was a "haf-rican," or when he jested that Obama was a "magical negro." Oh, the hilarity. Be a man, Rush. Be a hateful man, but be a man instead of a pasty- lookin' crackhead drug addict whose wives keep ditching him 'cause he's impotent. That last bit was just satire, of course, so please don't take it out of context.

Technology Doesn’t Dumb Us Down. It Frees Our Minds.
balthazarus
by balthazarus  9-22-2008    2
Paul Saffo, the futurist, says he could divide the technology world into two kinds of people: engineers and natural scientists. He says the world outlook of the engineer is by nature optimistic. Every problem can be solved if you have the right tools and enough time and you pose the correct questions. Other people, who can be just as scientific, see the natural order of the world in terms of entropy, decline and death. Those people aren’t necessarily wrong. But the engineer’s point of view puts trust in human improvement. But over the course of human history, writing, printing, computing and Googling have only made it easier to think and communicate.

"Dos Caras" Obama Is Stoking Racial Antagonism
merrie
by merrie  9-19-2008    1
Here's the relevant part of the Spanish-language television commercial Mr. Obama is running in Hispanic communities: "They want us to forget the insults we've put up with . . . the intolerance . . . they made us feel marginalized in this country we love so much." Then the commercial flashes two quotes from me: ". . . stupid and unskilled Mexicans" and "You shut your mouth or you get out!" The first sound bite was extracted from a 1993 humorous monologue poking fun at the arguments against the North American Free Trade Agreement. Here's the context: "If you are unskilled and uneducated, your job is going south. Skilled workers, educated people are going to do fine 'cause those are the kinds of jobs Nafta is going to create. If we are going to start rewarding no skills and stupid people, I'm serious, let the unskilled jobs that take absolutely no knowledge whatsoever to do -- let stupid and unskilled Mexicans do that work."  When will we ever learn? Trying to bomb these people (at great cost in innocent lives) into submission in a guerrilla war is incredibly stupid. The Russians couldn't do it and apparently we didn't learn our lessons well in Vietnam, Jungle/desert comparison aside. Their will to defend their own turf is rooted in the ages while ours is in greed and misguided ideology and there's the rub. Fools. What a waste of lives and resources and perception of good will worldwide. It's NOT a "good" war, if there are any. And changing strategy to more troops is folly of the worst kind but great for the war profiteers.

Invoking Fear of Faith
willhelm
by willhelm  9-11-2008    1
"Believers are mocked (if not too publicly at election time). Sen. Barack Obama's behind-closed-doors remark in San Francisco to the effect that worried blue-collar chumps cling to God and guns perfectly captured the left's worldview, equating faith and firearms as equal menaces to an enlightened society." " I don't see extremism in Palin's faith. I see the love of God that prevails beyond the Beltway. The media's bigotry toward her tells us far more about the political biases and snobbery of journalists than it does about Sen. John McCain's running mate. In recent years, a succession of pundits has compared our country to ancient Rome. Most of the assertions are silly. But our governing elite certainly shares the Roman patricians' disdain for the faith of the common citizen. "
