POPSFilms today, books tomorrow? by Mariam Mokhtar "But the scariest thing is how the Puteri Umno motion was passed without debate. An important call such as this should have warranted a little more scrutiny. If the Government were to accede to their request, then it is all Malaysians, who will suffer. Not just Muslims. Movies like the Harry Potter films will not be screened. Lord of the Rings, and even The Wizard of Oz will have to be banned. And what about science fiction films? Alien, Predator and others, may be full of horror, or lack unexplained traditional elements, and thus, will not fit in any religious teaching." In short - ban fucking everything. Would that make 'em happy?

POPSAmplifying Photography ... Do you have a clog at Amplify? If you have a clog and love photography feel free to join. It is an open clog and you can start clogging on it right away (no approval needed). I just ask a few things. Keep it about photography. Equipment, software, and inspirational photographs are all welcome (lolcats are great, but they usually aren't inspirational photography wise). And unless you are clipping a really short article, I think it is only polite not to clip the entire thing. This mostly applies to photographs. If it is a clip of lots of photographs, instead of clipping them all, I try to go with half or fewer (unless they are yours, then clip away).

POPSThe Daydreamer (1966) Four stories from Hans Christian Andersen appear in The Daydreamer, a feature using the Animagic process that uses live action combined with stop-motion puppets. Included are “The Little Mermaid,” “The Emperor’s New Clothes,” “Thumbelina,” and “The Garden Of Paradise.” Songs and dances compliment an international all-star cast of voices used for the characters. Ray Bolger, Margaret Hamilton, Burl Ives, Hayley Mills, Boris Karloff, Cyril Ritchard, Patty Duke, Terry-Thomas and Victor Borge join Ed Wynn in his second-to-last screen role. This was the last film in which fans would hear the voices of Sessue Hayakawa and Tallulah Bankhead. Director Jules Bass provided the lyrics, with Murray Law providing the music for this entertaining children’s fantasy.

POPSTeabag or not teabag? cont'd, Even conservative economists such as Martin Feldstein, Ronald Reagan's chief economic adviser, agree government spending is necessary right now. But why let facts get in the way of a great tea party? Fortunately, the majority of the American people, just like the majority of voters last November, get it. In a recent New York Times/CBS News poll 63 percent of Americans think President Obama would be more likely to make the right decisions on the economy as opposed to 20 percent who favor the Republicans in Congress. Most Americans have learned the lessons of the Republicans' horrendous fiscal mismanagement. Turning to old Republican ideas on the economy is like seeking investment advice from Bernie Madoff. It doesn't stop there. A brand new Gallup Poll finds 48 percent of Americans think the taxes they pay are 'about right' while 46 percent think they're too high. The 48 percent is the one of the highest scores in more than 50

POPSFreaky Cool Stop-Motion Art Video I'm always blown away by stop-motion animation. Its just so difficult to pull off. 24 frames per second (i think) for seven+ minutes in this case...think about how many individual works of art it takes to make this happen when you watch this. From a creative perspective, this is done very well IMO, including the wierd sound track - it just works. Its kinda freaky, and something about it is at odds with my own aesthetic preferences, but its just so damn cool. What do you think?
