POPS'Death panels' are killing us NOW, Sarah! "When an infant is stillborn because of inadequate or nonexistent prenatal care, a cancer patient forgoes or is denied treatment because of costs, a family is forced to decide whose medical needs will be met -- whose postponed, don't tell me somewhere a death panel isn't at work."

POPSGonzo Gastronomy: How the Food Industry Has Made Bacon a Weapon of Mass Destruction
Rolling Stone paints a grim picture of what goes on inside a hog CAFO: "Sows are artificially inseminated and fed and delivered of their piglets in cages so small they cannot turn around. Forty fully grown 250-pound male hogs often occupy a pen the size of a tiny apartment. They trample each other to death. There is no sunlight, straw, fresh air or earth. The floors are slatted to allow excrement to fall into a catchment pit under the pens, but many things besides excrement can wind up in the pits: afterbirths, piglets accidentally crushed by their mothers, old batteries, broken bottles of insecticide, antibiotic syringes, stillborn pigs …" Manufacturing Pandemics Factory farms are a hot spot for new infectious diseases. According to a former chief of the Centers for Disease Control's Special Pathogens Branch, "Intensive agricultural methods often mean that a single, genetically homogeneous species is raised in a limited area, creating a perfect target for emerging diseases, whic

POPSUS version of Chernobyl hidden from the Public? I believe we also had one in the North of England too that was kept very quiet and a lot of people in that area also developed cancer and other types of problems. Seems we have no control over the Fat Cats folks!! They just don't care if we live or die, as long as they make money.

POPSSovereignty? Parts Of Pakistan Have Become Ungovernable And A Menace But his solution—"seeing parts of their country placed in an international receivership"—must surely be a joke, or the harried keystrokes of a malformed column that was expelled in grotesque stillborn form. The simple, pragmatic fact of the matter is that no nation wants the responsibilities of another nation's struggles, but they do have every natural right to defend themselves from attack. Pakistan has failed to stop non-state actors from using their territory for international terrorism against their neighbors, and has morally forfeited any claims of sovereignty over the rogue regions of their nation. Indian military forces have every moral right to engage terror bases located in eastern Pakistan, as Afghani forces and coalition allies have even moral right to engage terrorist training camps and bases in the west.

POPSThe saddest of Madonna portraits :( It's hard to fathom of the grief of those whose babies are stillborn or die soon after birth. My heart goes out to them. I'm glad to see that these specialty photographers are handling their work with such sensitivity and are not charging the bereaved parents.

POPS"Stillborn Baby" Comes Back to Life The baby was then taken to the hospital's neonatal intensive care unit for further treatment, but doctors were not sure how long she would live. Motti Ravid, a professor of internal medicine, told Israel's Channel 10 that the low temperature inside the cooler had slowed down the baby's metabolism and likely helped her survive. What a wonderful miracle!

POPSSurvival of California condors hangs on lead ban, study says "But they also noted that humans who ingest meat from game can suffer adverse effects from lead: "Removing lead ammunition is not only right for condors, it is right for other scavengers, and it is right for hunters and their families." The report called on the Fish and Wildlife Service, which oversees the recovery program, to "increase the visibility of its leadership."

POPSOn Mark Lilla's "The Stillborn God: Religion, Politics and the Modern West" Continuation: "We must remind ourselves," he writes, "that we are living in an experiment, that we are the exceptions. We have little reason to expect other civilizations to follow our unusual path, which was opened up by a unique theological-political crisis within Christendom." In short, Lilla believes that we> have gotten one thing utterly wrong: We are not us. We are them. We are not the rule; we are the exception. The rule for Lilla is a blurring of the political and theological that has defined most societies from time immemorial and Western society for most of recorded history until only recently. Since the dawn of Christianity, there has been a deep confusion in Western society about what constitutes a good society, and Lilla astutely highlights what he sees as the limitations of the New Testament in not "articulating a clear, coherent picture of the good Christian political order."

POPSSouth Africa: Mbeki Supports Press Freedom - really? Stunning hypocrisy from a man whose government has on many occasions tried to ban articles in, particularly, the Mail and Gardian regarding shady government deals. A large bank, having plowed millions into an anti-crime advertising campaign caved under pressure from the government.

POPSWar On Drugs Gets Crazier and Crazier It is remarkable that there are states who still look to prosecute pregnant women who happen to be drug addicts. Addiction is an illness; a treatable illness. I have never met a drug addict who is happy to be such. Instead of financing the phony war on drugs by locking up and prosecuting addicts, why not use some of that enormous amount of money on building more treatment centres and financing research into additional treatment measures for this illness? It's the perfect blame the victim mentality that some members of our society seems to thrive on.
