Are we worth
reinhmr
by reinhmr  9-28-2009
Are we worthy of his oneness? Can we be mature enough to wait until the world stops laughing and starts to actually do something to help us? Notice that when it comes to taking about what Obama's concessions have actually gotten us he comes up with rather slim pickings. Russia and China "agreed to toughening sanction"? Really? I heard they said they would think about it. Given that Iran has been stiffing the international community for a couple of decades on this issue that they would have had enough time to think about it by now.

The Long Retreat ~ Part I by Mark Steyn

to it, perhaps not publicly (just as the US agreement to remove its nuclear missiles from Turkey was not make public during the Cuban Missile Crisis). The Obama Administration's diplomatic strategy is, I believe, wise and comprehensive"but it needs to show more than public concessions over time. A few diplomatic victories wouldn't hurt. Golly. We know, thanks to Jimmy Carter, Joe Klein, and many others, that we critics of President Obama’s health-care policy are by definition racist. Has criticism of Obama’s foreign policy also been deemed racist? Because one can certainly detect the first faint seeds of doubt germinating in dear old Joe’s soon-to-be-racist breast: The Obama administration “needs to show more than public concessions over time” " because otherwise the entire planet may get the vague impression that that’s all there is . Especially if your preemptive capitulations are as felicitously timed as the missile-defense announcement, stiffing the Poles . .

Stiffing GM's Creditors Will Backfire

The Law: Sure as the sun rises, the U.S. government's manhandling of GM and Chrysler bondholders will ripple outward, striking not only companies and their creditors but the very basis for U.S. power and prosperity. Historians pinpoint the beginnings of U.S. power at 1811, with the liquidation of the First Bank of the United States, founded by Alexander Hamilton. Amid the winds of the War of 1812, First Bank ignored political pressure and insisted that even British bondholders, from the nation the U.S. was preparing to fight, be paid in full. The debt was paid because that was the law. This single act reverberated for years. Word got back to Europe that the word of this fledgling country was good, even with enemies. As a result, European capital to finance the great steamships, railroads and other engines of American growth flowed. "The return of their funds became an important chapter in American finance because it showed that the government was willing . . .

Cracking ACORN
merrie
by merrie  5-14-2009    9
Kingsley wrote in a reference to the tax code provision regulating charities. ACORN and its affiliates are not only reliable cheerleaders for higher taxes, but also longtime tax deadbeats. More than 200 federal, state, and local tax liens adding up to more than $3 million are associated with ACORN’s national headquarters in New Orleans. Capital Research Center discovered that ACORN moves money around its network with a boldness and agility that Pablo Escobar would have admired. Obama’s ties to ACORN go back to at least 1992, when he ran a voter-registration drive for Project Vote. Obama helped train ACORN leaders, and he represented ACORN in a ballot-access case. The socialist “New Party,” which served as ACORN’s electoral arm, endorsed Obama, who was one of its members, when he ran for the Illinois state senate in the mid-1990s. Last year, Obama promised a meeting of community organizers he would meet with ACORN after winning on Election Day.

Corporations Stiffing Government on Fines
delete101
by delete101  6-22-2007
Profit is the bottom line for every corporation. Damage to the enviroment and humans are secondary. If companys would just pay to fix the areas of violation, I think it would equal the amount they rack up in fines yearly. But hey, they are not paying the fines or they renegotiate for a lower penalty, so know I know why they don't fix the areas that aren't up to stadards.
