Recording Industry Decries AM-FM Broadcasting as 'A Form of Piracy'
rustajb
by rustajb  6-24-2008
I'm sick of this word "Piracy". It's connotations of "stealing" as the RIAA likes to marry to the former. If I steal something I have deprived you of something as in stealing a car deprives you of said car. Theft of the material and tangible. But taking something that can be infinitely copied; seems brazen to call that stealing. The idea that the loss of "potential" profits doesn't stand with me either. To me that's just a way of saying "We have plenty, but we want even more." I'm fortunate that many of my favorite musicians have left this model behind (NIN, Radiohead to name two) and have taken the stance that music is meant to be heard and not hoarded.

Find out more at http://www.zazzle.com/webcarve* and consider signing up as an associate (you get a nice cut for sending folks this way. I will create a special template in a bit, to help viewers create their own versions. OR you can take the "M$M can I get fries with that idea" WITHOUT the graphics and run with it. I'll be putting up a scroll with all shirts using that phrase. Yes, it's a googlebomb. Yes, there' some money in it for me - and for you. And yet, it's still a great idea. You should steal it.

Republicans Dirty Election Trick Delayed But Still Alive
BobbyRutan
by BobbyRutan  12-7-2007    2
Of note is the manner in which they left the state to go ahead an allocate 2 electoral votes to the overall winner. One presumes that Republicans even crafted that in anticipation of a move towards this happening in every state. This kind of voting is closer to popular vote but with each state giving its 2 electoral (senator) votes to the overall winner it favors the republicans. The republicans usually win a majority of states because they are supported in the rinky dink states like North Dakota and Wyoming. Gotta love those Republicans. Want to give Iraq Democracy (laugh snort) but craft skewed elections in the U.S.A. Stinking Jerks.

The Tsar’s Opponent
merrie
by merrie  10-28-2007
Kasparov is also popular among the American right. In 1991, he won the Keeper of the Flame Award from the Center for Security Policy, another neocon think tank. The award, which is given to “individuals for devoting their public careers to the defense of the United States and American values around the world,” has also gone to Newt Gingrich, Paul Wolfowitz, and Donald Rumsfeld. Such an award does Kasparov no good at home. There is a centuries-long tradition in Russia of xenophobia. In the Soviet era, Sakharov, Solzhenitsyn, Pasternak, and hundreds of others were accused in the pages of Pravda of working for the C.I.A., M.I.6, or the Mossad. Vladimir Kryuchkov, who was the head of the K.G.B. under Gorbachev and directed the August, 1991, coup, was constantly trying to convince Gorbachev that his most liberal adviser, Alexander Yakovlev, was acting as a covert “agent of imperialist intelligence agencies.” Kasparov’s business-class ease abroad might be appealing to Americans,,,,,

Troops pay police to bolster security
jetcloud
by jetcloud  10-9-2007    1
"Police were forced to steal for a living when their pay didn't arrive from Kabul, which hurt morale and fostered resentment among local Afghans, the commander said. “They had to take bribes from the people, because they have to live,” Gen. Laroche said. Kandahar Governor Asadullah Khalid announced last month that a basic patrolman's wages would be increased to $150 a month, up from $77, but many officers say they rarely see a fraction of that." “We are happy about the Canadians' new plan, because I want my men trained and paid,” the police chief continued. “They will be controlled by the Canadians, trained by them and paid by them directly. It's a very good idea.”
