POPSThe Best Switch-Pitcher in Baseball Crazy right? its true though, this kid throws both left and right handed coming out of the bull pen...and he's killing it. Unfortunately, he's more of a side - left or right ;) - show than a real prospect and its likely he'll never see a big league game. That said, with guys like Rick Ankiel making the jump from pitcher to slugging outfielder I suppose it will happen in the majors one day.

POPSGet Ready Because Fleet Week Starts Tomorrow
(like tug of war; Saturday, May 23), and a Memorial Day ceremony with the unfurling of a 100-foot flag, a 3-volley rifle salute, and military flyover (Monday, May 25). Six ships will be taking part in the parade in a "wedge formation": At the front of the wedge is the U.S. Coast Guard buoy tender Katherine Walker. The rest of the wedge consists of three U.S. Navy coastal patrol craft - the Tempest, Hurricane and Thunderbolt, and two Army vessels - the Gelding and Hayward. Following the wedge is the guided missile cruiser USS Vella Gulf (CG 72), then two Canadian ships, the air defense destroyer HMCS Athabaskan, and the multi-role patrol frigate HMCS Fredericton. Next in line is the U.S. Coast Guard high endurance cutter Spencer, followed by two more Canadian ships, the multi-role patrol frigate HMCS Montreal, and the multi-role patrol frigate HMCS St. John’s. The final ship in the Parade of Ships is the guided-missile destroyer USS Roosevelt (DDG 80).

POPS Bernie Madoff: What His Secretary Saw a few thousand. You get comfortable with that, and before you know it, it snowballs into something big.” Bernie’s personality • The way Madoff handled stress was “by saying something nasty: You look terrible. You’re gaining weight. You’re stupid. I never took anything he said to me personally, because I knew it wasn’t about me, it was about him.” • Madoff’s behavior changed drastically in the weeks before his arrest. “He seems to be in a coma,” Squillari told people who walked by his office and saw him staring off into space. He began taking his blood-pressure every 15 minutes, refused to look at his mail, and was constantly meeting with the heads of his feeder funds and Frank DiPascali, “the go-to guy for the investment-advisory business” (the vehicle for Madoff’s Ponzi scheme).

POPSSt. Anthony's Skin a Big Hit Skin from a 13th century religionist draws followers to a prayer meet. Why??? This simply seems utterly bizarre. But then, I personally don't join in the delusion that is religion.

POPSNo SUVs Around During the Roman Global Warming ‘Crisis’
This warming trend would last almost 400 years, a well documented era known as the Medieval Warm Period. Once again, as temperatures rose harvests and populations grew. Vineyards made their way into Northern Europe, including Britain. Art and science flourished in what we now know as the Renaissance. Then around 1300 A.D. things cooled drastically. This cold spell would last almost 500 years, a severe climate event known as the Little Ice Age. Millions died in famine as glaciers advanced all over the world. The plague returned. In Greenland, the Norse colony that had been established during the Medieval Warming froze and starved. Arctic pack ice descended south, pushing Inuit peoples to the shores of Scotland. People ice skated on the Thames; they walked from Staten Island to Manhattan over a frozen New York Harbor. The year 1816 was remembered as the year without a summer, with some portions of the Northern Hemisphere seeing snowfall in June.

POPSSanta Anna and the Origin of Chewing Gum So began the Adams gum dynasty. The Adams family made the first commercial chicle-based gum in 1871. They went on to create Adams Clove Gum, Chiclets, Blackjack, and more. And what about Santa Ana and Adams? Santa Ana died penniless; Adams died rich. And commercial chewing gum has been a uniquely American gift
