POPSJiddu Krishnamurti I did not intend to discover this, yet, I did and tonight, every fiber of my being knows with certainty the truth of what he is saying. It is returning to a truth that can never be squashed, no matter how many times, I trick myself into delusion, into illusion, into the lies a sick world wants me to believe.

POPSHog Giant Smithfield Transforms Eastern Europe The Virginia-based pork giant has squashed small-scale hog farming in Romania and Poland, just as it did in the United States in the 1990s. Smithfield says pork prices dropped by about one-fifth, saving consumers about $29 per year. While this is good news for us, farmers are run out of business forced to seek employment elsewhere and the new Concentrated Animal Feeding Operations (CAFOs) are creating vast open disease ridden cesspools. Unbearable stenches, and wrecked communities. They used high-level cronyism to move through the maze of the Romanian political system. This is a prime example of the poisonous downside of corporate globalization.

POPSWhite House Ignored Detainee Innocence As far as I can figure out, this is the Bush admin. worrying that it might be embarrassed by the ham-handedness of their wide net approach to collecting detainees. Instead of admitting that they may have gone a little overboard, they kept innocent people in prison. This creates a new class of political prisoner -- the inconvenient and unrectified mistake.

POPSStem Cells 2.0: Scientists Make Revolutionary Advance First paragraph. A while back scientists were making revolutionary breakthroughs in stem cell research. Unfortunately they fell foul of interpretations of thousand year old texts in foreign languages, and a government with the scientific understanding of a squashed grape said "Sorry, our kind and loving God requires that people continue to suffer from Parkinson's, anemia, and various other horrible ailments." Luckily, scientists are awesome and did the obvious thing - make ANOTHER revolutionary breakthrough to get around the problem.

POPSSolar system a bit squashed, not nicely round "Imagine a balloon is being blown up by the solar wind. You might imagine that if you took a balloon, which is mainly spherical, and pushed it against the wall, it would be blunted on one side," said Edward Stone of the California Institute of Technology, one of the scientists involved in the research.
