Big Brother Monitoring Your Clipmarks, Blogs, Tweets
blueridge
by blueridge  10-21-2009
"Visible", a very extensive and sophisticated CIA-based monitoring program is in effect watching online forums, blogs, twitters, and likely Clipmarks (where influential clips are easily tabulated). After all, it's all in the public domain, where whatever you post you must own. In-Q-Tel says it wants Visible to keep track of foreign social media, and give spooks “early-warning detection on how issues are playing internationally ,” spokesperson Donald Tighe tells Danger Room.

Italy Seeks Jail for US Spies in Rendition Trial

None of the Americans is in Italy for the trial and the United States has ruled out extraditing them, so any conviction would be purely symbolic. A verdict could be delivered by late October or early November.

9/11 and Israel--Mossad Agents Arrested in Aftermath
blueridge
by blueridge  9-10-2009    3
You will not see these hard facts reviewed on Alex Jones or Loose Change video, any more than through the MSM. (However, Carl Cameron on FOX news did reveal that Israeli spies were arrested under PATRIOT ACT after 9/11 ). Read the entire well-researched article for much more The Jewish weekly The Forward reported that the FBI finally concluded that at least two of the detained Israelis were agents working for the Mossad , the Israeli intelligence agency, and that Urban Moving Systems...was a front operation. This was confirmed by two former CIA officers, and they noted that movers' vans are a common intelligence cover. The Israelis were held in custody for 71 days before being quietly released. How did they know there would be an event to document on 9/11? Note this took place in New Jersey too, where Michael Chertoff was AG at the time, who got them released .

Sarah Palin’s ‘Political Pornography’ is an Updated Version of McCarthyism
foxyarse
by foxyarse  8-20-2009    2
As with McCarthyism, Palinism is a product of its times. McCarthy exploited the public’s fear of communism and communists. Not only were they abroad, but they were here in America — spies, fellow travelers, pinkos, apologists, intellectuals and short, bespectacled minorities. It was their very ubiquity and invisibility that made them so dangerous. Health-care reform provides Palin the same opportunity. The klutziness of Obama’s effort — people think they know what they can lose but have no idea of what they can gain — again raises the specter of invisible forces that will take but not give, dictate but not listen, tax but not provide. But as is almost always the case with right-wing populists, the shooter has aimed at her own foot. Palin’s “death panel” remarks either killed or helped kill the proposal to offer end-of-life counseling. The victims will be the poor, the uninformed and the ideologically blind who will find themselves unable to make a graceful exit. The affluent have th

America's Whole Racist Enchilada Grande
citizenbfk
by citizenbfk  7-19-2009
One of the things I love about my country is it's humor. (Note: the "whole enchilada," is a common, Hispanic-flavored term meaning: the whole ball of wax (!?)...the whole messy, crazy situation.) On this clip page is a John Steward comedy video insulting a U.S. Senator (who is insulting the Hispanic woman nominated for our Supreme Court....big job). Building up his insults (like the Senator was doing to the Hispanic woman nominee), Stewart ends by calling the Senator an old lesbian." Another Senator on this approval committee strikes me as an "effeminate counterfeit Confederate." The candidate made the mistake of saying a "wise Latina," might make a better judicial judgement than while male. Negroes (according to Richard Nixon) make terrible spies while Jews are born spies. (this came up). So we have blatantly waded in to every racist attitude imaginable. White people appear Very Touchy about being treated inferior. A court case of such "reverse discrimination," ha

what's gone wrong with the US spy agency?
foxyarse
by foxyarse  7-14-2009    1
Spy agencies in democracies the world over face conflicting pressures. By definition they work in secret, but they must also be publicly accountable. In no democracy is this tension more institutionalised than in the US -- as this latest affair involving the former vice-president underlines. On this occasion, Mr Cheney and the CIA may have broken the law, violating the agency's duty to "inform" Congress about its activities. But sometimes oversight by Congress hurts the agency.

Ernest Hemingway a KGB spy?
clip-on-tie
by clip-on-tie  7-11-2009    1
Named “Agent Argo” by his KGB handlers, he was a considered a reluctant, dilettante spy who met with his handlers several times but never delivered. Hemingway is reported to have been recruited in 1941, before making a trip to China. The book quotes one of his handlers as indicating Hemingway “repeatedly expressed his desire and willingness to help us.” Based on his failure to provide any political information, the KGB stopped meeting with him by the end of the 1940s. It is not known whether Hemingway was committed to the communist cause or perhaps using the adventure as research for some future work, but it certainly adds a new element to what is known about Papa Hemingway.

New al-Qaeda Book Reveals Weakened & Paranoid Group
merrie
by merrie  7-9-2009    1
“It would be no exaggeration to say that the first line in the raging Crusader campaign waged by America and its allies against the Muslims and their lands is the network of spies, of various and sundry sorts and kinds,” says the book, translated by the Washington-based Middle East Media Research Institute, or MEMRI “Their effects are seen: carnage, destruction, arrest, and pursuit, but they themselves remain unseen, just like Satan and his ilk who see us while remaining unseen.” Terror experts have called the book unique in its weak and worried tone. “I haven’t ever seen this kind of language from senior Al Qaeda commanders before,” said Daniel Lev, who works for MEMRI. “In general, Al Qaeda speaks in a very triumphant tone,”but in the new book Al-Libi speaks of the group’s dire straits and serious problems, Lev added. “Such an admission of distress on the part of a senior Al Qaeda commander makes this a very unique book in terms of the author.

Sat Marks the Spot, Uncovers Pirate Weapons Haul
infidel70

In parallel, satellite imagery captured from southern Sudan showed tracked vehicles, parked under camouflage, at a Sudan People’s Liberation Army (SPLA) compound northeast of Juba, the capital of South Sudan. Jane’s observed that SPLA attempts to conceal the location “were deliberate and masterful, but dimensional analysis, tracked-vehicle scarring and the staging of three vehicles in a tactical perimeter established the concealed vehicles as tanks.” All told, Jane’s estimates that South Sudan has ordered around 100 main battle tanks. Observers have worried that an arms race is now under way between the Khartoum government and the government of South Sudan. A comprehensive peace deal was reached in 2005 after two decades of civil war, but that agreement has recently frayed. A referendum in 2011 opens the possibility that South Sudan may secede

Whatever the costs turn out to be, they will not be included in our already bloated military budget, even though none of these structures is designed to be a true embassy -- a place, that is, where local people come for visas and American officials represent the commercial and diplomatic interests of their country. Instead these so-called embassies will actually be walled compounds, akin to medieval fortresses, where American spies, soldiers, intelligence officials, and diplomats try to keep an eye on hostile populations in a region at war. One can predict with certainty that they will house
