POPSIn support of the UC Faculty/Staff/Student walkout My wife is one of the thousands of UC staff who are walking the union picket lines today. Save public education! Pay those who teach and keep the university running rather than lining the pockets of the upper-floor executives! Note: If you're inclined to get all anti-union, my advice is this: save it. Not today, not on this clip. Because my wife & her co-workers and fellow union members are walking the line today. And I'll ban you in a heartbeat if you feel like getting up in my grill over this. Save it for another day.

POPSBeen diggin this song and video - Hurricane Waters by Citizen Cope Stumbled across this song while sampling CD's at a Borders Book store. However, I stumbled upon the recent Richie Havens cover version. This song has been out since 2004 but I had never heard it. Some of the comments are that this is a very talented under recognized artist so I thought I would clip it. The video is by and independent film maker who pieced together 10 years worth of film from around the NYC area shot on 8mm film. Video is cool and kinda mesmerizing. Enjoy. Look up the Richie Havens version. It's good also.

POPSvideo: The Flaming Lips - Borderline The Flaming Lips covering Madonna's 1984 hit "Borderline". Wow. LOVE this. I think that if you're going to do a cover version, you really should make the song your own — reinvent it. And wow, do Wayne Coyne et al. reinvent this one! Turn it up. :-D

POPSMachiavellian Bush Era Torture Memos NYT Ecitorial
If you live in the USA and you have a TV the daily exposure to murder, violence, brutality, greed and lust is quite astounding...not to mention inseccent urging to eat, drink and pop pills. It's the background noise of the nation. Even so the newly release legal justifications of torture by the Bush Administration are quite incredible, matching the calm world-class rationalizations of Machiavelli himself. The sleavy way the Bush White House went out of their way to get these official legal opinions, and how they hoped this would cover their tracks and excuse their guilt, is also a story in itself. President Obama's decision to make this information public last week has broken the dam on this issue and their ain't no denying a flood will come and wash some people away. The President plays his song one note @ time. The vitriolic attacks against him, from all sides could truly kill the music. It's an astonishing performance. Lots are judging one note at a time but more

POPSDeath Metal can be educational! :D Check it out: this band bases their lyrics on egyptian mythology and the music itself is based on middle eastern scales. They do their research as well. These are the liner notes printed in the CD cover pertaining to this particular song. (in the next note)

POPS'Drunk' Lennon tape sells in LA The song was recorded during the 18-month period Lennon later called his "lost weekend", when he left his wife Yoko Ono and moved from New York to Los Angeles. A more coherent version of the song eventually appeared on Lennon's covers album, Rock 'n' Roll - produced by Phil Spector - in 1975.
