POPSTaliban make children plant IEDs to thwart Army snipers A senior Army source said: ‘The Taliban know that if they get caught in the sights of our snipers, they don’t last long, so they have resorted to hiding behind compound walls and directing children to plant bombs for them. ‘Lots of home-made IEDs detonate before they have even been laid, but the Taliban don’t seem to care whether a child gets killed or maimed. Some boys are as young as 12.’

POPS3 USA 'No-troops-there,' killed in Pakistan.
It's a shame to hear of our troops killed, wasted or misused. Since WW2 our military has gotten out of control. Using the proper procedure of Declaring War, in accord with the US Constitution, would be a good start to reign in all our covert political and military agitation. We admit to having troops in over 100 nations. But we have troops in more and have troops in nations we deny a presence. Not even Congress knows where they all are or what they are doing - without a declaration of war these all are, in essence, rogue programs. Today 3 US soldiers - who we don't have/ deny having in Pakistan - were killed there. The spin is sickening, too. These nice guys were just on their way to help out a girl's school. Yup....that's what our Special Forces do: build girl's schools. Or they call them 'trainers,' or 'advisers,' or 'private security contractors,' -- Many claims of former VP Dick Cheney having his own assassination squads have been made. We don't even obey our own

POPSDigital Nation: Virtual Worlds: Business, War, Schools, Lifestyles, etd. This special last night on PBS was not just about computer uses but virtual worlds being used for business, war, education, etc. This link is to the PBS website. We have soldiers in Nevada flying and firing missiles from our U.S. drones in Pakistan and Afghanistan. IBM is holding international business meetings using avatars in the 3D virtual world of Second Life. From shop class to math the laptop is becoming the key to knowledge. Pretty interesting. Lots of video clips on the site.

POPSKent State Unless you've listened to vintage Crosby, Stills and Nash recently, it's probably been eons since you've thought of "Kent State" in the iconic way this author means it: a turning point in 60's America, when the peace-love-joy vibe of the Flower Children fell through the rabbit's hole, beginning a loss of innocence that reverberates through our politics even now. OR does it? I can point to disbelief, distrust and cynicism and see a line from Kent State to Watergate to Iran-Contra....but I'm 50 years old. I was a child when all that happened, even though the photos and news clips are the filter through which I often view the world. But my students, 17 years old and surfing tennis shoe ads? Or most of my coworkers, 20- 35 year old distracted by the demands of life as they find it Monday through Friday? I argue that the author dates himself by saying "The words Kent State forever entered the lexicon..." The facts and the lessons of that era are not taught to our children. They

POPSA Terror Trial Debacle Happening Right Now A U.S.-trained Pakistani scientist linked to al-Qaida got into trouble again Monday in federal court after twice interrupting the sometimes tearful testimony of an American solider who claimed he shot her in self defense in Afghanistan in 2008. “I feel sorry for you,” Aafit Saddiqui blurted out at one point at her attempted murder trial in Manhattan. After a judge had deputy U.S. marshals remove her, she pointed at the witness and muttered something else before disappearing behind a side door. U.S. District Judge Richard Berman allowed Saddiqui to return later, but kicked her out again amid another rambling tirade about injustice. At the end of the day, the defense argued that the removals made her look bad in front of the jury and asked for a mistrial, which the judge denied. “It’s highly appropriate for her to be escorted out of the courtroom when she acts out,” he said. Siddiqui " a specialist in neuroscience who trained at the Massachusetts

POPSThe Hell of War Comes Home
More from the article below: But in the vicious confusion of battle in Iraq and with no clear enemy, many said training went out the window. Slaughter became a part of life. Soldiers say the torture and killing of Iraqi civilians lurked in the ranks. And when these soldiers came home to Colorado Springs suffering the emotional wounds of combat, soldiers say, some were ignored, some were neglected, some were thrown away and some were punished. More killing by more soldiers followed. In August 2007, Louis Bressler, 24, robbed and shot a soldier he picked up on a street in Colorado Springs. In December 2007, Bressler and fellow soldiers Bruce Bastien Jr., 21, and Kenneth Eastridge, 24, left the bullet-riddled body of a soldier from their unit on a west-side street. In May and June 2008, police say Rudolfo Torres-Gandarilla, 20, and Jomar Falu-Vives, 23, drove around with an assault rifle, randomly shooting people. ...John Needham, 25, beat a former girlfriend to death."

POPSCastro: US Military in Haiti Hindered International Cooperation Oh Brother. Maybe they should ask those who have been saved, sheltered, nourished, given medical treatment. The military offers some security from the raving mobs, rioters, looters since the Haitian police told it's citizens to arm themselves because they were helpless to protect them. It's a fairly lawless Country. No good deed goes unpunished. I'm certain the military wants out as fast it can get out! And I'm sure certain countries (and people) not friendly to the US would take advantage of the chaos to move in and set up a nice little base of operations.
