POPSLighting up one’s garden The greatest advantage of making use of the renewable energy of the sun is that there is no need to lay down wires or to plug anything into a complex electrical box. It’s a green solution and a convenient one. Garden lightings make use of such solar energy as all you need to do is to place the lights within the garden and the sun does the rest of the job. To work efficiently, they need as much sunlight as possible. Garden lightings have built in solar panels or photovoltaic cells that can store the sun’s energy and then use this energy to charge the internal battery of the lamp during daylight hours. This is how these garden lights manage to work so efficiently during the night.

POPSAmish are cool (*see notes) aren't they? *NOTES: 1- Unfortunately this news is old (2007) but I found it now and I found it intresting! 2- In the blogs where I found the pictures some people were feeling offended by them... I'm sorry, I find them funny, anyway if anyone can explain me what would be offensive in them I'll happy to understnd better. Enjoy the clips.

POPSSolar House - View Winter is a fascinating time in our house. The colder it is, the clearer the sky, the more 'energy harvesting' we do. Yes, we use the wood stove in the evenings for psychological comfort--not necessary, but the extra few degrees keep the house warm throughout the night. This photograph was taken by architect Steven Strong. Rob Erb, his project manager, was at the controls of a rented Cessna. This hawk's-eye view of our house was taken shortly after noon. The solar thermal panels are on the left half of the roof while the photovoltaic panels cover the right half of the roof.

POPSWorld's Greenest Museum It took 10 years to build and cost $500 million, but the California Academy of Sciences finally unveiled its new green home. The single building hosts a planetarium, natural history museum, aquarium and four-story rain forest. Some of the green components include floor to ceiling windows that provide natural lighting; a "living roof" with solar panels and native plants; and insulation made of recycled blue jeans.

POPSSolar Will Beat Oil This article gives me some hope. A bit more: "Enough total solar energy shines on the earth during a 40-minute period of time to power the entire world economy for a year. We only need to harness a tiny portion of this sunshine to make a huge difference in the world: environmentally, politically and economically."

POPSTwo Large Solar Projects Planned for California While I'm not extremely keen on these sort of plants -- there's no real reason to centralize solar generation like this -- it's nice to see that solar's being taken seriously. Given recent advances in photovoltaic technology, the price is coming down enough for it to be put anywhere the sun shines. In other words, there's no reason to use up huge expanses of land when you can do the same thing on rooftops. Still, any time new generating capacity comes from green tech, it's good news.
