Prisons Taking Work From Private Sector: Current Employees Laid Off
merrie
by merrie  12-10-2009    1
at an Otisville, N.Y. prison are continuing their jobs: producing solar panels The insanity continues: “green jobs” are turning into “orange jumpsuit” jobs. Unfortunately, most Americans remain unaware of the Federal Prison Industries’ (FPI) exploits. FPI employs cheap prison labor " compensating inmates at wages of between 23 cents and $1.15 an hour " to assemble products purchased by federal agencies under a mandatory source arrangement. Mandatory source status means if a federal agency needs to purchase a product offered by FPI, the agency must buy it from FPI, even if the price is higher, the quality lower or the delivery longer than that of commercial products FPI has used its competitive advantage for years to expand its business into such industries as furniture, vehicular components and textiles. Just recently we learned Traverse Bay Manufacturing Inc. a family-owned textile products business in northern Michigan, also is losing business to federal prisoners

New Solar Cycle Prediction
JICWyllie
by JICWyllie  11-23-2009
It happened 150 years ago. Why is nobody preparing, simply as an insurance policy? The answer is that it would cost too much money in a time when money is particularly scace. Such an event would certainly reduce significantly green house gas emissions for quite some time.

Solar panel racks and self built solar panels made sustainable energy affordable
tukili

Despite the obvious benefits of solar powered energy traditional solar panel installations are really expensive so we investigated the possibility of using solar panel racks and building our own solar panels and this is our experience of the process and the help we found along the way

Obamacare Myths and Facts
merrie
by merrie  8-15-2009    1
MYTH: Obamacare will make me wait weeks or months for necessary medical procedures. FACT: If you’re waiting that long, then obviously a qualified individual like Barney Frank or Nancy Pelosi decided the procedure wasn’t necessary. MYTH: Obamacare will be financed by cutting Medicare. FACT: Obamacare will be financed by eliminating Medicare recipients. MYTH: While many people will be forced onto the substandard public option, members of Congress will get a separate, much better plan. FACT: They will be on the same plan, but on a much much higher tier than will be made available to the hoi polloi. MYTH: Obamacare will be extremely costly and result in putting the country even further in debt. FACT: There is no confirmation of this, as the solar-powered calculator Obama tried to use to calculate the cost only allowed numbers up to the tens of billions.

Faith Based Economics
ColoradoRight
by ColoradoRight  7-27-2009
Just forget all of those people who make a living at looking at balance sheets, cost projections, and legislative analysis — trust us! For a party that screeched about returning science to its “rightful place” in policymaking, they seem highly enamored of tarot cards and entrail-reading when it comes to their own fiscal policies. The Obama administration and the Democrats have yet to learn that one cannot spend their way back into solvency. We already have government programs for medical care that don’t work. If Congress wants to overhaul Medicare/Medicaid to make it financially viable, the VA to make it responsive, and Indian Health Service to make it do anything for its consumers, that would be enough for any Congress to do.

Obama's long six months
dl211
by dl211  7-26-2009    2
Obama sold the country a false prospectus of easy, obvious, and almost painless change. The usual six honeymoon months have elapsed, and the country is nearly through rejoicing at the consolation that they have a president whom foreigners are unlikely to throw shoes at, and who speaks in sentences. But his own Environmental Protection Agency director acknowledges that his cap-and-trade bill will have no effect on the climate, and it will neither raise revenue nor reduce carbon use. It must be replaced with a straight carbon tax of bearable impact coupled with sensible conservation, and alternate-energy-source and oil-exploration incentives. The bill that limped through the House of Representatives was a Rube Goldberg contraption of Al Gore myths and Congressional vote-buying boondoggles. Its adoption would be a disaster. The president’s claim of putting millions of Americans to work making wind-mills and solar panels is a fable that extends the frontiers of quixotry.

How to make your garden come alive
martinmc16
by martinmc16  7-10-2009
Garden lights are normally said to be any types of outdoor lights which are added to the exterior of one’s business or home. These lights can also be solar lights and have the ability to add value to your home or business at an affordable cost. Some such garden lighting is mainly used so as to provide a decorative allure. A house that is well designed with attractive decorative garden lighting will certainly have some effect on passersby’s as compared to an ordinary looking house. Even an ordinary and plain home can become quite elegant by making use of solar lights that add to such decorative garden lightening value. Using such garden lightings, one is able to highlight a single tree in the center of the garden or some certain architectural structures of the house. Another type of solar lights on sale at the Blinking Sun web site is the solar shed light. Solar shed lights are lights that are places within a shed, or indeed, any outbuilding. They are connected to a solar panel that

Little evidence? Outdated U.N. research? No reason to rush? This is not what the Obama administration and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi were telling us when they were rushing to force a Friday vote on Waxman-Markey. We were given the impression that unless we passed this cap-and-tax fiasco, polar bears would be extinct by the Fourth of July. "A new 2009 paper by Scafetta and West," the report says, "suggests that the IPCC used faulty solar data in dismissing the direct effect of solar variability on global temperatures. Their report suggests that solar variability could account for up to 68% of the increase in Earth's global temperatures." The report was the product of Alan Carlin, senior operations research analyst at the EPA's National Center for Environmental Economics (NCEE). He's been with the EPA for 38 years but now has been taken off all climate-related work. Thomas Fuller, environmental policy blogger with the San Francisco Examiner, wrote Thursday in a story developed
