POPSVanity Fair Cover Satirizes John McCain "We had our own presidential campaign cover in the works, which explored a different facet of the Politics of Fear, but we shelved it when The New Yorker's became the "It Girl" of the blogosphere," Vanity Fair writes. "Now, however, in a selfless act of solidarity with our downstairs neighbors here at the Condé Nast building, we'd like to share it with you. Confidentially, of course."

POPSMy moment with McCain All the Republicans control these meetings. It is how good little Dictators do things. And when you only have a few hundred show up. It makes it that much easier to control.

POPSObama's Chickens Come Home to Roost Here we see Obama's purpose in equating Wright to the "black community" as a whole: to criticize Wright, therefore, is to criticize blacks as such. It is inherently racist. The purpose of Obama's famous speech on race was to make Wright seem reasonable, understandable, even mainstream. The Obama campaign's hope, no doubt, was that this would make the Wright story go away. But Wright interpreted it as an invitation. If he's so understandable and mainstream, why not go on a media tour to explain himself to the world? And why not use Obama's own arguments to justify himself and browbeat his critics? All of this is why it is no use for Obama to backpedal from his association with Reverend Wright, or to denounce him now, six weeks too late. It was Obama who sought to provide the Reverend Wright with immunity from criticism--and he can't complain when the reverend tries to take full advantage of that immunity.

POPSNew Cure for Bruises? Could very well turn out to be insightful. I just wouldn't want to be the test subject for further clinical studies.

POPSSoy Chocolate Caramels
37cal,1g fat,2mg cholesterol,23mg sodium,6.9g carbs,6g sugar,0.7g protein Naturally brewed soy sauce depresses the extra sweetness typical of chocolate syrups and enhances the richness of the cocoa powder. It helps to blend dairy notes and highlights the fruit top notes of the cocoa. result: a deep, nutty, roasted chocolate flavor with a rich color. These low-fat caramels were tasty, but slightly grainy because I used homemade soy milk which has pulp. Or perhaps the granulated sugar crystallized, in which case more honey was needed. Also, soy milk curdles at the slightest introduction of acid, which was in the natural cocoa powder. You may fare better with commercially prepared soy milk, which is smoother and has thickeners. My candy also did not set up, even in the freezer. so cook the candy until it reaches the softball stage–248F. I think these would have tasted better with salt, but if you’re adventurous, add the soy sauce in the end, so you don’t cook out its delicate flavor.

POPSSt. Baldricks Foundation helping cure childhood cancer St. Baldricks foundation is a fantastic organization set up to raise money to cure childhood cancer. The essence of the deal is "how much money would you pay to see me shave my head if all the money went to cure childhood cancer"? This suprisingly simple question and deed has raised millions of dollars for a fantastic cause. Im in this because my daughters softball coach Bill Malloy did this last weekend on St. Patricks day. His daughter has had leukemia and is now in recovery. It takes special people to do this, and big hearts to lend. Please contribute if you get the chance and feel the need.
