Is Ms. Jean Duley an LMSW?
cliffhammond
by cliffhammond  8-6-2008
The FBI attributes reports of Dr. Bruce Ivins' mental instability on "court records" provided by this "social worker." But since her restraining order was leaked to the press, the licensure verification website of the Maryland State Board of Social Work Examiners, who is required by law to verify such LMSW licensure, continues to be having technical difficulties. Hmmmmmm. How bizarre. It's been down all week. Guess I'll just have to call.

Kidnapped Pakistani Christian Girls Forced To Convert To Islam
merrie
by merrie  8-6-2008    1
after receiving a fatwa (religious decree) from a Muslim religious leader, to justify their actions. Later on, it was disclosed that the Muslim religious leader was bribed to provide the 'fatwa.' When Masih went to Gill to demand his daughters back Gill refused to let them go. Gill, though, threatened Masih and said that now the girls had accepted Islam they could not return to their Christian family. Ashfaq Fateh, a Christian social worker from Toba Tek Singh, told Minorities Concern of Pakistan that Gill warned Masih that if he filed a case against him, his family would be killed. He also claimed that he could not be caught by the police or found guilty by any court. Despite these threats, Masih reported all the details to the local police. However, no action has been taken to get the girls released and the police have told him to keep quite about the whole affair.

Knife Crime

Is the Home Secretary still on drugs? her action on a weekend - not yet over- when seven people are murdered - is to take perpetrators into over worker casualty units to see the consequences of their handy work. Why not give the a 'I stabbed the innocent bastard' medal. Perhaps another action would be to remove these misled children and put them into Social Homes, like that under investigation in the Channel Islands, or those condemned in Wales...

Obama Turns FDR Upside Down
merrie
by merrie  7-12-2008    1
assuming the same life expectancy. But the principle remains that as workers’ wages rise so do the taxes they pay, and so do the benefits they will get from the system. Although the formula connecting benefits to tax payments or “contributions” has evolved slightly over time, it still adheres to this basic message. Today, what Social Security terms a “low-wage” worker will pay (in present value terms) $77,197 over his or her lifetime and get $112,261 in benefits. A median-wage worker earning $42,000 will pay $171,550 and get back $187,085. A “high-wage” worker making $67,000 will pay $274,480 and get back $245,085. Sen. Obama would do away with this principle by requiring higher-end workers to pay taxes without getting any extra benefits linked to their higher contributions. This would be a big step toward turning Social Security from a contributory pension scheme into just another welfare program.

Irena Sendler Saved 2500 Jewish Children In Warsaw Ghetto
merrie
by merrie  5-15-2008    4
On Oct. 20, 1943, the Gestapo arrested her and took her to Pawiak prison, where subversives were tortured and killed. Over three months, her detainers used clubs and other devices to fracture her legs and feet. She did not inform on Zegota leaders and was sentenced to death by firing squad, but a bribed guard helped her escape and marked her as having been executed. Mrs. Sendler remained incognito for the rest of the war -- she could not even risk attending her mother's funeral -- and continued to help Zegota. Yad Vashem, the Holocaust memorial in Israel, recognized Mrs. Sendler in 1965 as "Righteous Among the Nations," the designation for gentiles who aided Jews during the war. The number of children saved by Mrs. Sendler and her partners is unknown, according to Yad Vashem, but some estimates by survivors groups claim more than 2,500. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/05/12/AR2008051202751_pf.html

RIP Irena Sendler - Lost Nobel Peace Prize to Al Gore
willhelm
by willhelm  5-13-2008    1
"Mrs. Sendler used her contacts at orphanages and convents to keep Jewish children safe until the war's end, often under Christianized names. To alert nuns to a new group of children ready for pick up, she could write, "I have clothing for the convent." The intention was to return all the children to their parents, although the death rate of the adult population made the task largely impossible. But for years Mrs. Sendler guarded the real names of the children and their parents, writing them on tissue paper and burying the lists in jars under an apple tree at an associate's home. "

Portrait of Courage: Irena Sendler

From the article: "In 1943, she was captured by the Nazis and tortured but refused to tell her captors who her co-conspirators were or where the bottles were buried. She also resisted in other ways. According to Felt, when Sendler worked in the prison laundry, she and her co-workers made holes in the German soldiers' underwear. When the officers discovered what they had done, they lined up all the women and shot every other one. It was just one of many close calls for Sendler."

Illegal Aliens Demand Their 'Rights' And 'Reforms'
merrie
by merrie  5-4-2008    3
People come into this country illegally, and then "demand" citizenship and an end to enforcing the laws that are on the books to stop illegal activity? The whole use of the phrase "immigrated to" has been completely twisted by the liberal press. Immigrants are people who come to this country legally and work to become part of the American fabric. They are not people who sneak across the border, use fake Social Security cards, and wave signs of their home countries during marches. A researcher for the International Union of Painters and Allied Trades. ''You never know when you're going to be stopped by Border Patrol and now the police",said Veranes. Why are people surprised when a person who comes to this country illegally is deported? The outrage! I'm sure jewelry thieves don't take to the streets and start demanding their rights. How dare the authorities take those diamond rings from them?

Medical marijuana patients face transplant hurdles
dakotayii
by dakotayii  4-27-2008    1
"Marijuana, unlike alcohol, has no direct effect on the liver. It is however a concern ... in that it's a potential indicator of an addictive personality," said Dr. Robert Sade, director of the Institute of Human Values Dr. Brad Roter, the Seattle physician who authorized Garon's pot use for nausea, abdominal pain and to stimulate his appetite, said he did not know it would be such a hurdle if Garon were to need a transplant. That's typically the case, said Peggy Stewart, a clinical social worker on the liver transplant team at UCLA who has researched the issue. "There needs to be some kind of national eligibility criteria," she said. The patients "are trusting their physician to do the right thing. The physician prescribes marijuana, they take the marijuana, and they are shocked that this is now the end result," she said. Many doctors agree that using marijuana — smoking it, especially — is out of the question post-transplant. The drugs patients take to help their bodies a

Get a Grip on Your Cash
sahara
by sahara  4-25-2008
In 2006 dollars, the minimum wage was $9.50 before the 1971 breakdown of Bretton Woods. Today that dollar is worth $5.15. Congress congratulates itself for raising the minimum wage by mandate, but in reality it has lowered the minimum wage by allowing the Fed to devalue the dollar. We must consider how the growing inequalities created by our monetary system will lead to social discord. The dollar today is worth only four cents compared to the dollar in 1913, when the Federal Reserve started. This has profound consequences for our economy and our political stability. Government officials consistently claim that inflation is in check at barely 2%, but middle class Americans know that their purchasing power--especially when it comes to housing, energy, medical care, and school tuition-- is shrinking much faster than 2% each year.

Dorothy Day's diaries are to be published. They were sealed for 25 years after her death in 1980, and should provide an interesting insight into her life and ministry. Dorothy Day was a Catholic anarcho-pacifist, and is a good illustration of the principle that theological conservatism leads to political liberalism, and vice versa.

Luxury Consumption
Rustee
by Rustee  3-28-2008    1
When, in the Middle Ages, an aristocratic Byzantine lady who had married a Venetian doge made use of a golden implement, which could be called the forerunner of the fork as we know it today, instead of her fingers, in eating her meals, the Venetians looked on this as a godless luxury, and they thought it only just when the lady was stricken with a dreadful disease; this must be, they supposed, the well-merited punishment of God for such unnatural extravagance. Two or three generations ago even in England an indoor bathroom was considered a luxury; today the home of every English worker of the better type contains one. Liberalism - In the Classical Tradition Ludwig von Mises Imagine thinking a bathroom is a luxury! It's safely in the domain of necessity today. More current is the transition of cell phones from the realm of luxury to widely attainable by those of every class; often even every family member has their own.

Protect Bristol Bay, Alaska from Dirty Gold!
urbanlife
by urbanlife  2-13-2008
5 of the nation's leading jewelry retailers support the protection of Alaska's Bristol Bay from large-scale metals mining. A Canadian mining corporation wants to create one of North America’s largest open pit gold-copper mines, the proposed Pebble Mine, in the headwaters of Bristol Bay: a pit 2.5 miles wide and a toxic lagoon almost 20 square miles. The "No Dirty Gold" campaign lists the "Golden Rules" for responsible mining: basic standards to insure gold is not produced at the expense of communities, the workers, and the environment The hard-rock mining industry is the single largest source of toxic releases in the US and this industry has caused enormous damage to rivers and fisheries around the world. Native villages of Bristol Bay harvest fish and game to support their lifestyle. Bristol Bay is also home to populations of moose, seal, walrus, grizzly, brown, and black bear, beaver, wolverine, bald eagle, caribou, beluga and killer whale, wolves, and more!

The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (usually abbreviated as NAACP) is one of the oldest and most influential civil rights organizations in the United States. The NAACP was founded on February 12, 1909 by a diverse group composed of W. E. B. Du Bois (African American), Ida B. Wells (African American), Archibald Grimke (African American), Henry Moskowitz (Jewish), Mary White Ovington (White), Oswald Garrison Villard (German-born White), and William English Walling (White, and son of a former slave owning family), to work on behalf of the rights of African Americans. Its name, retained in accord with tradition, is one of the last surviving uses of the term "colored people". The group is based in Baltimore, Maryland.

This couple probably represents the majority of computer users, and this news clip shows what can happen if you don't protect your router, as well as your computer. What angers me about this whole situtation is that this gives ammunition to those who want to control the internet and create LEVELS for those who can afford it...the level will be very protected. I also never understood how a public entity can sue people for negative press.
