POPSReligion is not the primary motivation of suicide bombers
Whether through sloppy thinking, laziness, or outright racism, Imperial powers love to dismiss local resistance to foreign domination as either "drug-crazed" or "religious fanatics", sometimes both. Because then you don't have to take a close look at their motivations and ask "Why are they pissed off enough to do something like this? Why specifically are they targeting us ? What would I have to be put through to feel like a suicide bombing was a reasonable thing to do? "Oh wait, they're just a bunch of religious nutbags? Great, now we can unleash death an destruction on them and their society knowing that they're unreasoning fanatics, and not people with a legitimate beef. "Nice to know we're still the good guys who never start a fight but always finish it. We're kind of attached to that myth, and it would cause a lot of national distress and heartache if we had to question the reality of that. "Good thing they're just religious crazies."

POPSNRA’s Opponents ‘Accidently’ Vote With Them This is our representation in Congress, folks. Scared yet? This kind of embarrassment needs to be addressed. It is inexcusable. They don’t read them. They don’t know what they are voting for. They vote for things they are against…is this the best we can get? They care more about their cushy positions and paychecks than what they are tasked to do. We need to keep track of these names so we don’t ‘accidentally’ re-elect them.

POPSMAI ELOQUENCE: LET ME SHO U IT! Like a lot of people who love language, George Bush's inarticulence and sloppy thinking (as expressed in his speech) over the last eight years have been excruciatingly painful to me. Obama's a fine speaker by any standard, and in comparison to Bush... heaven!

POPSClinton's top strategist steps aside Man, this is getting really sloppy. Hillary's top strategist is out working on a deal that Hillary claims to vigorously oppose. I'd have to say that it's just enough already. I think it may be time for her to accept that she has not run a consistent, solid campaign and step aside.

POPSThe Attack on Human Rights Watch Good overview of the controversies over HRW's reporting of the Israel-Lebanon conflict. Neier deals with the following arguments: * HRW devotes a disproportionate amount of attention to Israel (false) * HRW did not declare Hezbollah an aggressor (HRW never declares aggressors in its reporting, because it realizes that "aggression" is an inherently political concept, as Israel and the US pointed out when they protested the creation of the International Criminal Court) * He also takes down Dershowitz's argument that because sometimes Hezbollah mingled with civilians, Israel should be exonerated for all civilian deaths caused by its air strikes. Dershowitz failed to note that HRW documented two dozen cases where Israeli strikes killed civilians where there was no evidence of a Hezbollah presence. Moreover, Dershowitz himself used sloppy evidence to overstate the presence of Hezbollah among civilians. Via http://www.matthewyglesias.com/
