Part 2 The Marijuana Trick
mountainpalm
by mountainpalm  10-21-2009    1
In September of 1937, hemp became illegal. The most useful crop known became a drug and our planet has been suffering ever since. Congress banned hemp because it was said to be the most violence-causing drug known. Anslinger, head of the Drug Commission for 31 years, promoted the idea that marihuana made users act extremely violent. In the 1950s, under the Communist threat of McCarthyism, Anslinger now said the exact opposite. Marijuana will pacify you so much that soldiers would not want to fight. Read MORE at source..........

Banned Books Week
carrerinyes
by carrerinyes  9-21-2009    10
During the last week of September every year, hundreds of libraries and bookstores around the country draw attention to the problem of censorship by mounting displays of challenged books and hosting a variety of events. The 2009 celebration of Banned Books Week will be held from September 26 through October 3. The purpose of this Web site is to help the public join the celebration of our freedom to read. The easiest way is to visit a participating library or bookstore. There is a list of Events, to help you find one in your community. (If you want to post information about an event in your community, please click here.) There is also a list of suggestions of other activities that will help remind people of the importance of free speech, What You Can Do. If you want further information about BannedBooksWeek.org, contact us at info@abffe.com or bbw@ala.org.

Urban Slang - What Does BSTL Mean?
fredo3303
by fredo3303  9-9-2009
BSTL or "Bam Said the Lady" is a phrase first coined by Canadian actor Nathan Fillion. Mr. Fillion first said the phrase on his TV series "Castle" during the episode titled, "A Chill Goes Through Her Veins", and since used it on the online computer game "Halo 3" - but what does it mean and why does it exist?

Bam Said the Lady - BSTL
fredo3303
by fredo3303  8-22-2009
An acronym for Bam Said The Lady. A phrase made popular by Canadian actor Nathan Fillion (of such cult hits as Firefly, Serenity, and currently Castle), used as an expression of enthusiasm and/or finality. A reminder to Negative Nancys out there- keep it positive. It's insecure to think you have to be mean to be funny. Mean = blocked. BSTL. After hearing all your secrets, I feel we're all a little closer. Mine? The Incredibles was the best movie ever made. Ever. Made. BSTL.

Washington All Wee-Weed Up!
citizenbfk
by citizenbfk  8-22-2009    2
Exactly. Not only that but the Great Antagonistic Hoard wanted to know why the President would insult the office by the use of such slang. The President saying "wee-weed," has now been added to the list of his alleged great Hitler Communist Afro-American sins. Although, gasp!, it seems, this clip reports, being "wee-weed," in in Chaucer's Canterbury Tales, William Shakespeare, the King James Bible, not to mention Boswell's Life of Samuel Johnson. If that ain't English, --or, at least -- roots of the English language, what is? But, no dope, everybody's wee-weeded up and getting ginned. Lots of folks think what's on our corrossive and toxic news is what is but often, way 4sure, it ain't. Obama hasn't even stepped up to the plate on this (and some other issues). I mean, he's doing yeoman work to the max and calling some shots but when It's Time to Step Up to the Batter's Box it's gonna be a Home Run, 4sure...and he's point out the spot, like Big Babe & blast it like H

Thumb novels: Mobile phone fiction
cakebelly
by cakebelly  7-29-2009
more (at source): Astronomically popular, "thumb novels" are much decried as trash for yahori ("slow learners"). But over the past few years this trashy subculture has stormed Japanese commercial book publishing. In 2007 – keitai shosetsu's annus mirabilis – half of the top 10 fiction bestsellers in the shrinking Japanese book market originated on cellphones. Last autumn, a literary grandee joined in. Jakucho Setouchi, the Marguerite Duras of Japan, revealed herself as "Purple", the author of a keitai shosetsu about a teen's search for love entitled Tomorrow's Rainbow. Setouchi is also a celebrated 86-year-old Buddhist nun who wrote a contemporary update of The Tales of Genji, Japan's racy classic.

Who coined more popular expressions than anyone else?

FTA: Tad Dorgan was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 2007 in the category of "Observer"; Jack Dempsey described him as "the greatest authority on boxing." Discovered last night when searching for the origin of "cat's meow." I use the phrase "busier than a one-armed paperhanger" often. Who knew?!
