Pirates Steal 33 Russian Battle Tanks
Brian Caulfield
by Brian Caulfield  9-26-2008    1
It's on now -- pirates are back. Big time. Of course, pirate skeptics will ask 'Why do seagoing pirates need tanks?' Are these tanks airtight so these pirates can sneak up on ships from underneath? Will these guys become land pirates? Who knows, they're pirates!

More OLPC's means more kids and parents educated
saan-kpa
by saan-kpa  9-18-2008
"In Uruguay the parents wait for the kids to go to bed so they can use the laptops. So you saw people move to rural communities… so their kids could take advantage of . In Rwanda the families brought electricity to the schools so that the kids could keep using the laptops." I find that really cool. :) Yay for OLPC!

Blossom Goodchild predicts mass UFO on 14 oct 2008 or thereabout
firstteam
by firstteam  9-17-2008
This is one sensational piece of news or event or non-event to take place. The fact that a well known writer and actress (Australian) is putting this out - with a very short window time , with little to gain and much to lose (if did not turn out true) makes it more intriguing. For me it is better to read about it more in detail than to be caught unprepared - if it turned out true . If it turned out tru (time will tell) it is the BIGGEST event of our life for sure. If it didn't happen - just laugh about it. But the messenger appears serious and if it was a hoax it is very well thought out. Please read and pass it to others.

Big Oil as Venture Investor
Andrew Gillies
by Andrew Gillies  9-15-2008
Wall Street Journal, in a special section today, includes a look at how giant oil companies have approached venture investment in energy. Exxon Mobil apparently has no interest. Canada's EnCana regards it as "social investment and supporting innovation." Also discussed is Shell's involvement with Virent Energy Systems, a company we looked at here: http://www.forbes.com/beltway/2008/03/11/virent-ethanol-gasoline-biz-cz_atg_0312beltway.html

McCain- McBush- Bush Be Frightened
klippety
by klippety  8-22-2008
Be very Afraid for America. " It Can Happen Here", a book by Sinclair, written earlier, describing the way America slides into fascism. Wars on all sides, and your civil rights being diminished by the day with new laws to curb your freedom and expand the powers of FBI, CIA and all the other 3letter clubs. Americans are already afraid of their own government. Time to take it back! It is your Land, after all.

Obama's Foreign Policy Goes Neocon--Unjust Wars Will Continue
blueridge
by blueridge  7-22-2008    2
The real Obama policy. Must see video interview (at link) where Obama 1) legitimizes the "war on terrorism" (as necessary and true war); 2) escalate war in Afghanistan (regime change, like Iraq continues); 3) willing to attack targets inside Pakistan--i.e. invade any sovereign country to kill and destroy alleged 'terrorists' (think collateral damage on civilians or wrongly accused from missiles and UAV drones). Watch the interview, Obama does not answer one "why?" question of Lara Logan about the "necessity" of the "war on terrorism", he simply dodges and assumes its legitimacy without reason or debate. UNJUST WAR is the problem here. Where is the protest? The "war on terrorism" is not a true or legal constitutional war, and enabling Obama to do the same as Bush without criticism is hypocritical and partisan blindness. It has always been the goal to finish Iraq and legitimize and spread the war on terrorism. Note the media: War = Patriotism

Bertrand Russell quotes
JohnWaterman
by JohnWaterman  7-19-2008    6
 # This idea of weapons of mass extermination is utterly horrible and is something which no one with one spark of humanity can tolerate. I will not pretend to obey a government which is organising a mass massacre of mankind. # “Not enough evidence, God, not enough evidence.” (Russell’s reply when asked what he would say if he died and found himself confronted by God, demanding to know why Russell had not believed in him) # Many orthodox people speak as though it were the business of skeptics to disprove received dogmas rather than of dogmatists to prove them. This is, of course, a mistake. If I were to suggest that between the Earth and Mars there is a china teapot revolving about the sun in an elliptical orbit, nobody would be able to disprove my assertion provided I were careful to add that the teapot is too small to be revealed even by our most powerful telescopes. But if I were to go on to say that, since my assertion cannot be disproved, it is intolerable presumption on the p

Wikipropaganda
merrie
by merrie  7-9-2008    3
I checked with Peiser, who said he had done no such thing. I then corrected the Wikipedia entry, and advised Peiser that I had done so. Peiser wrote back saying he couldn’t see my corrections on the Wikipedia page. I made the changes again, and this time confirmed that the changes had been saved. But then, in a twinkle, they were gone again. I made other changes. And others. They all disappeared shortly after they were made. Turns out that on Wikipedia some folks are more equal than others. Kim Dabelstein Petersen is a Wikipedia “editor” who seems to devote a large part of his life to editing reams and reams of Wikipedia pages to pump the assertions of global-warming alarmists and deprecate or make disappear the arguments of skeptics. Holding the far more prestigious and powerful position of “administrator” is William Connolley. Connolley, a ruthless enforcer of the doomsday consensus, may be the world’s most influential person in the global warming debate after Al Gore.

The Real 'Inconvenient Truth'
jmjoness
by jmjoness  6-24-2008
"The real inconvenient truth about global warming is that the science is not yet settled and that policies are likely to be put in place prematurely as a result. And when the bureaucrats pat themselves on the back for a job well done in saving the planet from global warming, in the real world the average Joe will be stuck wondering what happened to his job and worrying about how he is going to scrape together the cash to pay his increasingly expensive bills."

Well, all I can say is is this: my Dad had an encounter in a rural section of Georgia decades ago with something that none of the locals were able to identify. This was long before the popularity of Bigfoot. I have my own theories as to what scared the b'jeebers out of my Dad.
