POPSInnocence Undone--Frame By Frame "But I’m pressing on, determined to learn just how much of my life is based on false pretenses. I am dreading what I am going to find in “My Favorite Martian” and “The Addams Family”; highly skeptical that “The Flying Nun” was either really flying or really a nun. But there’s one show, at least, that I’m sure won’t let me down: “Mister Ed,” about the talking horse. I know that was real. Heck, you could see his lips move." :)

POPSCap-and-Trade Will Cause Dems Greater Slaughter in 2010 Midterms Just what the country needs, a tax that will restrict the economy during an economic down turn. However, Obama seems to be on a liberal suicide mission as he knows that the Democrats are going to get creamed in the 2010 midterms, so why not inflict as much liberal/socialist damage on the US while Donkeys have an overwhelming majority. Because after 2010, Barack Hussein Obama may just be without the House and the Senate. POPS"Stun people into loyalty" by...who else? Godin of course. I hope he won't take this the wrong way, but Seth to me has become the Jerry Seinfeld of marketing. What I mean is that he is a master of observation and, like Seinfeld, has a way of seeing the obvious in ways most people don't realize until he exposes you to it. They both tap into human behavior at such a common yet deep seeded level that you end up laughing at yourself (Seinfeld) or bonking yourself on the head and saying "of course, why didn't I think of that" (Godin). Seth's gift however is even more special: he paints such a visual picture for you that before he's finished, you can see the outcome - which makes you feel like you're the one who figured it all out. He's that good.

POPSHuge Majority Support Offshore Drilling The opposition is not based on the logic of drilling but on a desire to strangle domestic production to drive up the price of energy so they can invest in "magic" energy that will supposedly create millions of green jobs and not be based on carbon. These people are out of touch with voters and the GOP needs to do a better job of pushing the issues so that the Democrats will eventually pay a political price for their obstruction of energy production. POPSObama Planning a Legal Fudge for TARP? According to Reuters, “the administration was looking at setting up a special purpose vehicle to be a conduit for money…that would get around restrictions on executive bank pay.” There’s an irony here. Didn’t “special purpose vehicles” help carry us into this credit crisis to begin with? (Answer: They did! And into the Enron debacle, too.) Besides, isn’t it unseemly for the executive to skulk around the intent of a duly passed law? If the law is flawed, shouldn’t the administration persuade Congress to change it?

POPSContessa Brewer is a ClimateGate denier Naturally, this mean that liberal journalists like Contessa Brewer have to play their part in covering it up. This will include — and has been including — discrediting the people who have been calling for an investigation into this and are skeptical of the global warming hoax. If it turns out that it really is all a fake, then a lot of people are going to look foolish, including President Obama, who will be attending the climate change summit in Copenhagen. If journalists had any ethics or integrity left, they would be the ones investigating this. But instead, they’re taking part in the cover-up of the ClimateGate controversy. It’s just further proof that journalism has officially died.

POPSDominic Lawson: Roll up, roll up for the great Copenhagen emissions-fest And that's not counting the media flying in from everywhere. The very concept that politicians have the power to restrict climate change to 2C or 3C is as absurd as waving a magic wand. No wonder many people are skeptical about what they are doing. It doesn't change the sad facts of glacier melting, water poisoning, mass extinction, deforestation etc.etc. which are the direct consequences of industrial civilisation.

POPSThe Afghan Quagmire
So what would a rigorous public and internal administration debate have highlighted? First, the more occupation forces there are, the more they fuel the insurgency against the occupation, especially since so many more civilians than fighters lose their lives. Witness the wedding parties, villagers, and innocent bystanders blown up by the U.S. military’s superior weaponry. Second, there was a remarkable absence in Obama’s speech about the tribal conflicts and the diversity of motivations of those he lumped under the name of “Taliban.” Some are protecting their valleys, others are in the drug trade, others want to drive out the occupiers, others are struggling for supremacy between the Pashtuns on one side and the Tajiks and Uzbeks on the other (roughly the south against the north). The latter has been the substance of a continuing civil war for many years. Third, how can Obama’s plan begin to work, requiring a stable, functioning Afghan government—which now is largely a collection

POPSA need to 'dig beneath the corporate surface' COMMENTARY | November 10, 2009 Simon Johnson of MIT says reporting like Ida Tarbell's of 100 years ago is badly needed today. One suggestion: the press should take on the financial institutions that helped cause the financial collapse, and are even benefiting from it.

POPSHis Message: Peace "Muslims believe in the Torah, the New Testament, the Old Testament and the Koran," Turk told the students. Then he asked: "My name is Jihad. What does jihad mean?" One boy answered: "It means to fight." Turk, responding with the firm but friendly tone of a teacher, offered an alternative. "It means the inner struggle to do the right thing," he said. "

POPSNew Food Sprinkle Convinces the Brain to Stop Over-Eating
Then, in one of the largest studies of a non-prescription weight-loss system, these Tastants were tested for effectiveness as a means of weight loss. The results were significant. Over a 6 month period, 1,436 women and men sprinkled flavorless "Tastant" crystals on everything they ate, and lost an average of 30.5 pounds - nearly 15% of their total body weight. Participants achieved these results without having to follow any special exercise regime or diet. Best of all, because it is tasteless and odorless and contains no stimulants and does not directly interact with the digestive system, there are no unpleasant side-effects. None of the horror stories associated with "fat-blockers" or stimulant based weight loss systems. A flavorless, odorless sprinkle that triggers this type of weight loss - too good to be true? Apparently the company anticipated a somewhat skeptical response from consumers, jaded by a weight loss industry spread thick with misleading claims.

POPSHacked Emails Show Climate Science Ridden with Rancor
Fellow scientists who disagreed with orthodox views on climate change were variously referred to as "prats" and "utter prats." In other exchanges, one climate researcher said he was "very tempted" to "beat the crap out of" a prominent, skeptical U.S. climate scientist. More recent exchanges centered on requests by independent climate researchers for access to data used by British scientists for some of their papers. The hacked folder is labeled "FOIA," a reference to the Freedom of Information Act requests made by other scientists for access to raw data used to reach conclusions about global temperatures. Many of the email exchanges discussed ways to decline such requests for information, on the grounds that the data was confidential or was intellectual property. In other email exchanges related to the FOIA requests, some U.K. researchers asked foreign scientists to delete all emails related to their work for the upcoming IPCC summary. In others, they discussed boycotting ....

POPSHeading to Oslo in Weeks, Facing Tough Days on the Diplomatic Front for a vote on the United Nations Security Council. Earlier on his trip, in Singapore, the Prime Minister of Denmark, Lars Loekke Rasmussen, the U.N.-sponsored climate conference's chairman, formally announced that he did not think there would be an agreement coming out of Copenhagen, and more negotiations will be necessary. Then, after meeting with Russian President Dmitry Medvedev in a side meeting in Singapore, President Obama acknowledged that US-Russian negotiators would almost certainly not make the deadline for a new nuclear disarmament agreement to take the place of the START treaty that expires on December 5. More frustrations followed . On Monday, Chinese government officials refused to broadcast live President Obama's Shanghai town hall meeting on state-run television. POPSA media orgy of rumors, speculation and falsehoods
It's worth focusing on what the major media did last night, and one can use the Hot Air compilation to examine that. I understand that in the early stages of significant and complex news stories, it's to be expected that journalists will have incomplete and even inaccurate information. It's unreasonable to expect them to avoid errors entirely. The inherently confusing nature of a mass shooting like this, combined with the need to rely on second-hand or otherwise unreliable sources (including, sometimes, official ones), will mean that even conscientious reporters end up with inaccurate information in cases like this. That's all understandable and inevitable. But shouldn't there be some standards governing what gets reported and what is held back? Particularly in a case like this -- which, for obvious reasons, has the potential to be quite inflammatory on a number of levels -- having the major media "report" completely false assertions as fact can be quite harmful. It's often th

POPSHow to Keep Bees - "Beekeeping 101" Review I love honey and I have always had a desire to be a beekeeper. But I admit I had absolutely no knowledge of how to keep bees or how to get started and figured my beekeeping desire would stay an unfulfilled dream. So naturally, when I came across the "Beekeeping 101" eBook, I was extremely skeptical. It just didn't seem possible that anyone could learn how to keep bees and get delicious honey by following the instructions in an eBook. Still I figured the ebook was affordable so why not give it a try?
