POPS20 Facts About the Brooklyn Bridge -The original toll for crossing the bridge was one penny. - There are 85,159 cubic yards of masonry in the bridge. - The bridge turned out to be a tragedy for the Roebling family. The designer, John Roebling, died from tetanus after a ferry crushed his foot as he was scouting locations for the bridge. His son, Washington Roebling, of Trenton, N.J., fell prey to the bends from his time in caissons laying the foundations for the towers, and became an invalid. Washington's wife, Emily, became the de facto head of construction in his stead. - The bedrock on the Manhattan side turned out to be much deeper than predicted, so the tower on that side of the bridge rests on sand. - The Brooklyn Bridge was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1964, after physically joining the island Manhattan and Long Island for 81 years. POPSMy Way 'most popular' funeral tune Not that I'm planning anything. I'd be more into Gnarls Buckley, maybe Kev "Bloody" Wilson. (Kev would get them smiling) A recent funeral included only AC/DC and half smoked joints instead of flowers. The bloke deserved what he wanted. Salvos are best for those who think they are going elsewhere, or want a penny each way. Realistic.

POPSA Better Sort of Insult Often botched in the re-telling, the correct version, according to an MP who claimed to have witnessed the notorious exchange, was: Mr. Churchill, you are drunk. Madame, you are ugly. Mr. Churchill, you are extremely drunk! And you, Madame, are extremely ugly. But tomorrow, I shall be sober. Somewhere the witless got hold of it and added “..and you’ll still be ugly,” shamelessly spelling it out for the slow to catch on. The underlining of and the verbal stress on “I” needs no further help. The boobish add-on sinks it.
