Apple Edges Out Google
merrie
by merrie  8-17-2008
Google's shares, which topped $700 late last year, have settled back to just over $500 - but the company's founders, Sergey Brin, 34, and Larry Page, 35, remain billionaires who travel the world on a customised Boeing 767. The pair see conquering space as their next challenge and have put up a $20m prize to anyone who produces a privately financed spacecraft able to land on the moon.

What they do with your money
narain_47
by narain_47  7-19-2008
Finance managers can never be held responsible. They have at their disposal large amounts which they can invest. It is not their own. If everyone takes personal care, one will look into the shares they buy. Here malpractices and favorism can be done with other's money. Better shy away from mutual funds and investment banking. Have your maoney saved in a regural bank for security.

Rise and fall of the Googled swastika
Kelika
by Kelika  7-12-2008    1
"The trick is knowing the short code (called html) that represents each. In this case, the code a 4chan member posted was the shorthand for the swastika. After the code is processed by a browser, it shows up as the symbol. (Curious readers are invited to try it.) The flurry of searches for the swastika code -- most of which, it seems, were by people who did not know what the code represented -- shot the swastika itself to the top of the trends list. It's a plausible answer, and if it's true it means the motivations involved were more rascal than racial."

Will "Th!nk" Ignite an Electronic Car Revolution in the U.S.?
Mohir
by Mohir  7-11-2008    1
Think City is one of two models that are out already, together with the Think Ox, with a choice of either lithium or a sodium battery, it's range is enough to take a suburban dweller to the downtown office and back, with zero carbon footprint. The car is thoughfully fully computerized and allows a key-less entry. It features real time navigation, web, e-mail and open source interfaces, intelligent and sustainable driving and route calculations. The DNA-key gives the user feedback on charging status and sends messages, for example, for pre-heat or pre-cool options via GPRS. Pricing has yet to be announced, but the company's current vehicles cost less than $25,000.

Bored With Web 2.0? Demand Change
Socratoad
by Socratoad  6-24-2008    2
This manifesto for change comes at an important time, when a recent, but growing trend of Web 2.0 ennui is beginning to strike the citizens of the social media landscape. Even VC Fred Wilson was recently caught wondering if he was "bored with Web 2.0," saying: But I am a bit jealous of friends who are working on finding and funding alternative energy or biomedical technologies that have the potential to address the serious problems facing the world. At times it seems that helping the web become more social, intelligent, mobile, and playful is not as impactful.

One important points not addressed in this story; if Apple employees are receiving lots of stock options, they're making money that way. Shares of Apple stock were trading under $10 five years ago; today they're around $180.

Silkweaver

“Our plan is to have a demonstration-scale plant operational by 2010 and, in parallel, we’ll be working on the design and construction of a commercial-scale facility to open in 2011,” says Mr Pal, adding that if LS9 used Brazilian sugar cane as its feedstock, its fuel would probably cost about $50 a barrel.
