Execution scheduled despite recanted testimony
masbury
by masbury  Yesterday 6:40 PM    1
Convicted of murder solely on basis of witness testimony - no physical evidence. All witnesses but two have since changed their position; one of the two is the prime alternate suspect. But Georgia will not allow factual review of case, and has set execution for the 23rd of this month.

Should Conyers Impeach or Write Another Book About Bush's Crimes?
papananook
by papananook  7-30-2008
Three years ago, Conyers' staffers on the Judiciary Committee produced a book about Bush and Cheney's impeachable offenses. Some of us helped them do it. After all, they were in the minority and couldn't do much more than write books. But now? In the majority? Now, should they be accepting that Congress no longer has subpoena power? Now, should they be accepting that Congress no longer has the power to legislate? Now, should they be accepting that Congress has no power of the purse? Now, should they be devoting tax dollars to the pointless vanity of doing what anyone else can do: writing yet another book on Bush and Cheney's latest impeachable offenses

Now almost anything he deems can cause seizure of any or all property of that person accused, and in this case accusing is the same as finding guilt making bush the prosecuting attorney, the judge amd the executioner, he also gives the same right to the Secretary of the Treasury as he does with the Iraq EO. In addition to the punishment making one penniless with no savings, no car, no money and no belongings meaning you will be on the street, his EO bans anyone from giving you, or your family anything, even food or clothing or money--a death sentence, fitting for a sadist like bush

Do you care? Loss of Civil Liberties since 9/11
NonStatQuo
by NonStatQuo  2-12-2008    4
From website :: This is the History Commons project for the loss of US civil liberties under the current administration, and before. We are currently focusing on several topics, including the expansion of executive power (the “unitary executive”), the NSA’s domestic surveillance program, the use of “national security letters” to force information … It will take more than 200 years to get them back.

Evidence for Impeachment Abundant
blueridge
by blueridge  1-3-2008
The list beneath these clips is extensive. Congress too has been obstructing justice by failing to impeach. The Constitution needs to be restored now before the freedoms and protections from rogue tyrannical government are completely demolished. Dereliction of duty is rampant and the American people too distracted and willingly naive.

US-America in deep slumber - going to awake in 2008 to another presidential nightmare?

Survey reveals candidates' views on scope of executive power - The Boston Globe Biden Clinton Dodd Edwards McCain Giuliani Obama Paul Richardson Romney It's hard to overstate how vital this issue is, or how far off the media radar screen it remains. Indeed, it's hard to think of another issue in which the importance-to-the-public /attention-paid-by-the-media ratio is as out of whack. Alternet.org

"Surrender Should Not Be An Option"
sahara
by sahara  12-12-2007
The American people voted for a humble foreign policy in 2000. They voted for an end to the war in 2006. Instead of recognizing the wisdom and desire of the voters, they are chided as cowards, unwilling to defend themselves. Americans are fiercely willing to defend themselves. However, we have no stomach for indiscriminate bombing in foreign lands when our actual attackers either killed themselves on 9/11 or are still at large somewhere in a country that is neither Iraq nor Iran. Defense of our homeland is one thing. Offensive tactics overseas are quite another. Worse yet, when our newly minted enemies find their way over here, where will our troops be to defend us? The American people have NOT gotten the government they deserve. They asked for a stronger America and peace through nonintervention, yet we have a government of deceit, inaction and one that puts us in grave danger on the international front. "Mission Accomplished".

Rasmus

Continuation: The list of Bushite excesses is long...and growing: Their sweeping, secret program of warrantless spying on Americans The usurpation of legislative authority by attaching "signing statements" to laws passed by Congress Suspension of habeas corpus for anyone whom Bush deems to be an "enemy combatant"-allowing innocent people to be detained indefinitely in prison without charges or civil trial, subjected to abuse and even torture, and denied access to judicial review of their incarceration (thus usurping the power of the courts) The assertion of a "state secrets" doctrine to prevent citizens and judges from pursuing legitimate lawsuits An ever-expanding grab bag of autocratic actions, including using "national security letters" to sidestep the courts and spy on American political groups and individuals with no connection at all to terrorism

  a) they are preparing for an attack on Iran, probably using nuclear weapons , and b) they have arrogated such extraordinary powers to themselves that it is entirely conceivable (indeed in the opinion of many, highly likely) that they will trump-up an excuse to "justify" a declaration of martial law, render Congress and the Courts powerless, and postpone future elections for the duration of the "emergency" thereby effectively anointing themselves as absolute rulers for life answerable to no one.

What Have We Taught Them?
laceym
by laceym  6-7-2007    6
First, the leaders in the Democratic Party have given these issues as little attention as the Republicans. Democrats in control of the House and Senate have taken no action to challenge and dismantle these abuses. I suspect that the front-runners in the Democratic Party, and those who fund them (particularly those who fund them), are looking forward to what they can accomplish with warrantless searches and seizures, arbitrary arrest and imprisonment, and signing statements. Second, the Republican Party itself has had a long tradition of supporting Constitutional principles, particularly the value of a limited government and maximum freedom. I do not know where those Republicans have been hiding for the past six years, but it is time for them to come out and assert themselves.
