POPSL.A. Times Cuts Out McCain’s Remarks About Economy Then Quotes Barack Obama Saying McCain is Scared to Talk About the Economy "Our current economic crisis is a good case in point. What was his actual record in the years before the great economic crisis of our lifetimes?" At which point McCain launched into the amazing speech quoted by Ed Morrissey at Hot Air, during which he laid out the case, at great length, for the Democrats’ responsibility for the mortgage crisis. Does the L.A. Times report one word of that? No. Instead, they cut the quote of McCain’s speech short there, right before he talks about the economy, and proceed to quote Obama as claiming that McCain is scared to talk about the economy: Speaking with reporters in Asheville, N.C., where he is studying for Tuesday’s debate, which is to focus on the economy and domestic issues, Obama pointed to recent reports that the McCain camp wanted to get away from economic issues, a topic that polls show benefits the Democrats.

POPSS&M Porn Illegal-Real Life Torture-OK! But for our highest government officials, including the ones responsible for this prosecution, we have a different story altogether. In 2002, the Bush DOJ radically re-defined "torture" and illegal treatment of detainees to exclude anything that falls short of "the pain accompanying serious physical injury, such as organ failure, impairment of bodily function, or even death." The DOJ's John Yoo even decreed that the President could legally order "'scalding water, corrosive acid or caustic substance' thrown on a prisoner" and possibly even "slitting an ear, nose or lip, or disabling a tongue or limb."

POPSJohn McCain on The First Amendment A blast from the past. The video is from September of last year. Typical of Republicans who tend to see the Second Amendment as the only thing worth a damn in the Bill of Rights. Long story short, he's against freedom of speech and says people who use it should be thrown out of the country.

POPSAuthor of "Anne of Green Gables" death a suicide, granddaughter reveals Will this add to or detract from Montgomery's legacy? Butler sees it as an important addition. She writes, "the legacy of L.M. Montgomery, and my grandfather, Rev. Ewan Macdonald, and its related responsibilities and joys, are taken very seriously by my family. I spoke with them before writing this essay and we agreed that it was important for us to share our family's story."

POPSMcCain Caught in Hypocrisy-Fest I'm so glad Rachel's on the TV machine now. I'm sure I'm missing a hypocrisy here, but we've got: McCain hanging with the hated lobbyist. McCain hanging with the hated celebrity. McCain being all elitist on a yacht in Montenegro. I'll bet they served arugula and lattes.

POPSRon Paul Will be on Presidential Ballot Paul's name on the ballot could siphon votes from Republican presidential candidate John McCain. In Montana’s June 3 primary, Paul took 20,606 votes, well short of McCain’s 72,791, but still a sizeable chunk of Republican voters. An additional 2,333 Montanans voted for neither, choosing Republican “no preference.” Martin said he would not be concerned if putting Paul on the ballot harmed McCain's candidacy. "If it would affect that, it wouldn't bother us too much," Martin added. "We wanted to put the best candidate that was out there on the ballot."

POPSOpen Letter to Senator John McCain Let's talk about another POW: Floyd James Thompson. Outside of the military, and even inside, I doubt there are few that have ever heard of him. (Read this book for a full history) He was the longest held POW in US History, just 10 days short of 9 years in captivity during the Vietnam War. He was a pilot and shot down just like you, Senator McCain. Why has the general public never heard of him and his sacrifice on behalf of the nation though? I guess its because he never used his experience for personal gain or notoriety. His story is much sadder actually. After his release, his marriage fell apart, he developed a drinking problem, and eventually suffered a massive heart attack. He represented the plight of so many POW's, he suffered silently, forgotten by a country trying to heal the still open wounds from the Vietnam War.

POPSSuspicion of Capitalism What ideas and ideals are needed for freedom to flourish? History offers no better answer than the American story. Two centuries ago, the Founding Fathers blazed the path to a capitalist future by creating a nation based on the individual's right to life, liberty, property and the selfish pursuit of his own personal happiness. For the first time, a nation's social system embodied approval of profit-seeking, the lifeblood of capitalism. America's founding principles, all but forgotten today, facilitated the explosive economic globalization of the 19th century and remain our only hope for freedom in the 21st century.

POPSHow Women Got To Vote & Maxine 4 Pres 08
A friend of mine, emailed me this story on how women got the right to vote. It's hard to believe that it really wasn't that long ago when women were denied their civil rights and could not vote. The short story is based on the HBO documentary entitled "Iron Jawed Angels." A chilling tale about the suffragists who braved all odds to see that all Americans have the right to vote. I put together a funny youtube video starring the Hallmark darling Maxine... Even found a video on the Hallmark site called Maxine for President to add a bit of an uplift to the sad story written by an unknown writer . Maxine for President? Why not? If only she were real, she'd make a better president than some of the one's who have held this high office in modern times. Here is the website http://www.thethinkingblue.com/MAXINE08.html And here it is on youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vf_o1WnjLFM Remember to vote, a lot of people suffered and died to give us this precious right.

POPSBernie Mac, Comedian Dies at Age 50 –and poor people who were the shoe repairmen, pressers of trousers, low level factory workers who ran through long spates of lay-off after lay-off, waitresses, short order cooks, maids, housecleaners, laundry takers-inners, and people who had no jobs… they lived in tiny one-story houses or duplexes with the back porch often boarded over to make a second bedroom. The last is the layer Bernie Mac came from. He was raised by his mother, Mary, who died when he was sixteen. Bernie Mac was an orphan who made his way in the world. And his comedy reflected the envy and longing and love of the layers of Black people on his home turf… he loved nothing more than to make fun of arrogance and haughtiness, and had a sharp eye for the facial expressions and gestures of humans ‘acting up,’ He mimed those gestures perfectly. He was a ‘body’ comedian therefore, not only a spoken word comedian.
