POPSA remarkably bitter take on the "top ten stories of the last decade" -- in short, we're hosed The last paragraph is worth quoting in full: "The meaninglessness of elections: This is the most embittering revelation of all. Despite the greatest electoral majority since Johnson crushed Goldwater in '64, Obama has betrayed everything he ran on. In every case where he had the opportunity to confront power " in financial bailouts, financial regulation, health care, wars and military spending, utilities and global warming, national surveillance " Obama has sided with the rich and powerful against the interests of the American people. He has probably engendered more cynicism, more disaffection with government than any president since Richard Nixon. It will deal a staggering blow to the hopes of mobilizing masses of people again for a real takeback of government. And he's not even one year into it."

POPSSanta Claus vs. Krampus... TO THE DEATH! (By yours truly) More: These stories involve strong language, violence, sexuality, drug use both recreational and spiritual, and fairy-tale subjects on the darker side of the "Bruno Bettelheim" scale , the ones where bad & lazy servants gets tarred and feathered, and the wicked are forced to dance themselves to death wearing red-hot iron shoes. Disney has been driven from the building. This page will serve as a central list for links to the the collected stories as I finish them and their links go live. Not sure how many it's going to take, but I know how it ends for sure. I also, from time to time, blog about the writing process . As with any journey, getting there is most of the fun. Hope you'll take this one with me. As with any journey, getting there is most of

POPSRogue Palin: She ain't afraid of no Vietcong king The book also fails to expose Mrs. Palin's intellectual brilliance and keen grasp of foreign policy issues. Why wasn't the text of her recent speech in Hong Kong included? Although it remains secret, it's rumored that she viciously rebuked the Vietcong king for his assault on the Empire State Building. That's a speech we've been waiting for nearly 75 years to hear. It's big news and should have been included. As you read other reviews of this book, please remember that Mrs. Palin has many enemies who are eager to pan her work. The Palin family's most potent nemesis, Levi's johnston, is no dpubt fully erect and ready to spew globs of misfortune upon them for a third time. And reason-adoring intellectuals are certain to point out that an interview on Good Morning Topeka doesn't qualify as a policy summit in the Far East.

POPSPublic Health Plan Covers FEW
"The public option is a significant issue, but its place in the debate is completely out of proportion to its actual importance to consumers," said Drew Altman, president of the nonpartisan Kaiser Family Foundation. "It has sucked all the oxygen out of the room and diverted attention from bread-and-butter consumer issues, such as affordable coverage and comprehensive benefits." The Democratic health care bills would extend coverage to the uninsured by providing government help with premiums and prohibiting insurers from excluding people in poor health or charging them more. But to keep from piling more on the federal deficit, most of the uninsured will have to wait until 2013 for help. Even then, many will have to pay a significant share of their own health care costs. The latest look at the public option comes from the Congressional Budget Office, the nonpartisan economic analysts for lawmakers. It found that the scaled back government plan in the House bill wouldn't overtake

POPSStock Shock! The Movie
The movie exposes a technique known as naked short selling, which has resulted in the collapse of the stock value of some of America’s most promising public companies. Sirius XM, often labeled as one of the most manipulated stocks in the market, is dissected in the movie. “Stock Shock” interviews individual investors who saw their stock price hit a high of $9.00/share and then plummet to a horrifying low of 5 cents in 2009. “Stock Shock” has spurred a grassroots movement helping convince the SEC to enact and make permanent an emergency rule to ban abusive naked short-selling. It’s no wonder. The reviews are impressive: “Shocking and eye-opening!” “It’s an awakening. Academy Award…Stock Shock should get one,” says radio host Jim Puplava of the Financial Sense Newshour. Industry expert and shareholder activist Bud Burrell remarks: “I will give it 10 stars of 10. It is the best doc of this length I have ever seen. I think this will go into the defining literature of this sp

POPSFalse Flag Flu (H1n1) prompts changes to Mental Health Act
I started to comment but couldn't really add to these. Is it right that swine flu should affect health regulations? Your comments (terms and conditions apply): "Absolutely not, especially if these authorities redefine 'mental illness' to include being opposed to the government's official stories about the swine flu. When governments remove civil rights, and arbitrarily change laws so as to deny due process of law, we are automatically living under a dictatorship. Citizens of any nation which allow such nefarious backdoor assaults on their freedoms will have their indifference rewarded with tyranny" – Dee Nicholson, Canada "No. absolutely not. In the event of staff shortages, what we don't need is less thorough assessment! Swine flu seems to be the 'new terrorism' allowing the state to impose 'fear based' measures that would otherwise seem unthinkable" – Christian Thompson, Yorkshire "Tyranny, fascism and eugenicism in action" – Scott, Teesside

POPSThe World of Paranoia Is In Our Faces Everyday & We Think It Is Protection
Just tonight one of the people who attend my classes spoke about how Mercurochrome is now banded in Australia - because it is deemed to be too dangerous due to the mercury and yet, I know people who are now well into their nineties and besides a bit of physical frailty are bright, sprightly and healthy. There is a point, where caution simply just turns to paranoia - I really reckon the world is much tooooo paranoid about all the things that can go wrong and hence we inhibit, not just our own, but everyone else's freedom in the process. We are all going to die and whilst I choose to create optimum wellness at any given moment in time. I really can no longer be bothered with filling my head with all the things that can go wrong because of all the rules, regulations, stories (fact or fiction) that fill my head on a daily basis. My life IS - short or long it matters not - less intellect more heart - it is as beautiful as this little video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZE-ML-B

POPSProtection From Editors However, if the creator manages to pull off a hit, the dynamic changes. He eventually becomes marketable on star power alone. Whatever he produces is guaranteed to sell, regardless of quality, thanks to his established fanbase. Not all creators actually appreciate the help they've received from the editors. As far as they're concerned, these short-sighted editors have been holding them back from true greatness. They might not actively think this, but getting a fanbase and thus lots of positive feedback gives some people a swelled head.

POPSYou Don’t Know What You’ve Got ’til It’s Gone What we have is not ours forever – that sounds like simple and obvious wisdom during economic times when so many have lost so much. But Buddhist teacher Kentetsu Takamori wants everyone to know the message is far more important when it comes to human nature. In his new book, Something You Forgot…Along the Way, Takamori relates 65 short stories that bring his philosophy to life. He cautions us that nothing is permanent.

POPSSharing Culture, One Tweet At A Time "The idea of Twitter is it's a giant party and you can have as many conversations at the same time as you want with however many people you want, and you essentially sit there and let all the conversation wash over you," he says. POPSShort Stories in Eight Easy Rules by Kurt Vonnegut Posted in '07 by MonkeyKnifeFight, MOG user. Rule 6 is almost too apt. Rule 8 is debatable, though Vonnegut doesn't say you have to give readers correct information, just as much information as possible. For more clues as to how to convince your readers to look the wrong way at just the right moment, consult J.K. Rowling. :)

POPSObama's Afghanistan: This Surge Will Not Be Televised and building a Burger King and Pizza Hut on a huge, growing base proves it will not be a short term surge. The economic focus and domestic health care agenda ensures this all goes unnoticed too even though IT IS COSTING AMERICANS BILLIONS OF DOLLARS AND BLOOD. This is not a war of self-defense, but continued regime-change for a new middle east, entirely consistent with the neoconservative agenda of the Bush administration. THIS IS OBAMA'S IRAQ AND VIET NAM.
