POPSA Call for Change, Real Change
We debate to determine the best solution. But if the debate is motivated by party-politics, the actual purpose for debate is negated. We don’t need a pretty face to report our news. We need the most articulate, intelligent, and proficient individual. We don’t need hate and the party-line to be constantly propagated by the radio waves. We need the facts, the truth, and the solution. We don’t need ignorance and insults to populate the internet. We need reason, principle, and intelligence to be king. Suggestions on how to be a catalyst for change: Turn off the television, end your cable subscription. Unsubscribe from your daily newspaper. Call talk radio and express your views. Write a letter to the editor. Don’t let yourself be defined as “progressive,” “Conservative,” “Republican,” or “Democrat.” Recognize that men are in many ways existential. Vote according to principle and reason. Not based on party. Live what you believe. Believe what you live. Read. Research. Rememb

POPSWhy two bigots ate their words More importantly, they devoted their June 11 show to transgender issues and exposed their drive-time audience to transgender people, and their families and issues--providing a rare educational moment on shock-jock radio. What Williams and States did was a clear abuse of the right to free speech and thankfully a large number of people get it. Sure they have the right to their say but their sponsors need to understand that when their money affords the platform for spreading this cesspool of hate they too are tainted by it. Just because there is a law that doesn’t prohibit hate speech doesn’t mean you should participate in it.

POPSDownload Pontypool Movie Shock-jock radio D.J. Grant Mazzy has, once again, been kicked off the Big City airwaves, and now the only job he can get is the early morning show at CLSY Radio in the small town of Pontypool which broadcasts from the basement of the small town's only church.

POPSAnother Notch For Rightwing Shock Jocks.
A story like this, puzzles me as to why it's legal to spread hate over our airwaves. The rightwing shock jocks, have been doing this for years without remorse or fear of reparation. We all enjoy freedom of speech and would never want to do anything to jeopardize this right, a corner stone of democracy. But when it's used to spread xenophobia, doesn't that strike you as being criminal? It's illegal to shout FIRE in a crowded room, shouldn’t it also be against the law to shout THIS GROUP, RACE, or ETHNICITY IS EVIL. Yet that is exactly what the Limbaughs, Lou Dobbs' and other hate spreaders do when they use media tools to distribute their loathsome rhetoric. It happened in Tenn. when a crazed man went looking for Liberals to KILL because a radio jock said liberals were ruining America. When will the time come, to say enough hate, it's time for healing? As long as rumor brutes can sputter their revulsion behind the safety of a microphone, it will never end and some innocent will suffer.

POPSHoward Stern Exposes Why So Many People Support Obama All those uninformed voters that are under the spell of the O-man are scary. They give more thought to buying shampoo than voting for president. And another point, only Howard Stern could get away with that. If it was any other news network that questioned black people on the street, that outlet would be deemed a racist news organization that is in the tank for the McCain and the GOP!

POPSHoward Stern Supports Gay Joey Bootz I don't get people who really hate Howard Stern. If you listen to him for a couple days, you figure out, he's really got a heart of gold. I guess its a question of being familiar enough to know when he's kidding.

POPSShock Jock's Unrepentant Derogatory Obama Song Source article gives more well-rounded account of this situation. (Unfortunately, complete stories can't be told in 1000 characters or less.) By the way, I love how Barack is responding with dignity, because it doesn't take "magic" to make Rush and his followers look even more ignorant and childish by comparison.

POPSFree Press Democrat Style Do I generally like Imus? No, I think he is a political shock-jock, the equivalent of Howard Stern for politics. Who decides what statements get people taken off the air however? Is it REALLY "the religious right" that acts as a censor in this country?
