Leverage with Property investments
seqldproperty
by seqldproperty  6-22-2009
Investment Property Advice, Insuring rental property is crucial for real estate investors and just as essential for lessees who own valuable goods that would cost thousands to replace. Both real estate investors and tenants can be sued for medical payments if someone is injured on their property, whether inside or outside. Sudden accidents such as high winds that shatter windows, plumbing problems that instigate water damage or burglaries that happen due to lax security measures affect not merely the landlord who has to repair the damaged building, but also the lessees whose property has been stolen or destroyed. Landlord insurance does not cover a lessee's personal property.

Most New Tires Aren't New
ncoutlander
by ncoutlander  6-22-2009
A story on 20/20 about the shelf life of tirest was really an awakening for me. This was something I didn't know. Thanks to the story on 20/20 I can avoid buying a tire that is already 12 years old and is being marketing as new. I plan on buying new tires this week, but you can bet I will be sure to check the date for the first time ever. They say knowledge is power, but in this case it is also a life saver. Learning to read the inside print on a tire will keep you from making a tragic mistake. To see this rivetting story on ABC News 20/20 Click Here. Below is a short summary on how to read the age of a tire. The video is well worth watching. Please pass this on or re-tweet it to your friends.

Ironically, I think the government should thank him for pointing out their idiot System Administrators aren't doing their jobs. Come on, 56k modem? Well, he doesn't deserve the 70 years he is facing.....If he gets convicted in England, he'll get no time. Hell, no one gets any more than a few years when convicted of more heinous crimes there. Amazing!

Tetris 25th birthday
balthazarus
by balthazarus  6-3-2009    1
"I always thought that every game has a certain shelf life. In the early PC business it would take somebody else a year to copy your game, so I thought we had a year or two before somebody came up with a better Tetris," Rogers added. "You know what? They tried. But in 25 years, nobody has." :)

Rutgers Glider RU27 Flies Along Gulf Stream on Transatlantic Voyage
disenchantedcitizen
by disenchantedcitizen  6-2-2009
Engineers at Rutgers had successfully deployed gliders several dozen times in places all over the world. Glider missions often lasted over a month and covered distances of 500 km or more. But this represents a grander challenge. This is the first time a robot will cross the Atlantic. The robot will make its way by gliding beneath the ocean's surface and will provide a profile of the oceans floor. You can follow the day-to-day operations and progress of the glider at a dedicated website of the Rutgers COOL here: http://rucool.marine.rutgers.edu/atlantic/. You cn also follow it on Twitter: https://twitter.com/RU27

Why Unfettered Capitalism Is Bad for Your Diet
JackieDel
by JackieDel  5-30-2009
These are the companies that are trying to efficiently process tens of thousands of cows per day -- cows that have been lined up in Concentrated Animal Feeding Operations (CAFOs) and fed grain (more efficient than using land to feed them their natural diet of grass), pumped with hormones and antibiotics to keep them from dying, which means a glut on the market of cheap (antibiotic-filled) beef. And these are the companies that are creating the seeds -- those seeds that the farmer can't even save for fear of litigation -- to grow the crops that require the use of their pesticides and which produce a proliferation of fast food. Yes, efficiency is the bottom line in our current agricultural system. Not safety, not health, nor least of all, taste. No, for a corporation that is beholden first to it's shareholders, its all about the quickest way to get to the bottom line.

Make a talking card for Father's Day
ruffman
by ruffman  5-24-2009
This is a great project and your dad will think you spent the big bucks. Record a personalized message like "Dad, you rock. Please send money." Decorate the card with a flattering diagram of your dad (or a photo if you're an artphobe). Everytime he opens it he'll hear your dulcet tones. The chip is re-recordable so you can get the card back from him and send it to someone else with a fresh message like, "Mom, you rock. Please send baked goods."

Kremlin: Battles Over Energy May Lead To Wars
merrie
by merrie  5-14-2009
Medvedev's predecessor Vladimir Putin, who is now Russia's powerful prime minister, often accused the West in the past of trying to expand its clout in the ex-Soviet nations and push Russia out of its traditional sphere of influence. The Kremlin has fiercely opposed NATO's plans to incorporate its ex-Soviet neighbors, Ukraine and Georgia. Russia currently controls most natural gas export routes out of the former Soviet region, but that grip is coming under growing pressure from China and the West. Intensifying rivalry for influence in the ex-Soviet region fomented tensions and helped stage the ground for last August's war between Russia and Georgia, which sits astride a key export pipeline carrying Caspian oil to Western markets. The war erupted when the U.S.-allied Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili sent troops to regain control over the separatist province of South Ossetia, which had close links with Russia.
