POPSUpdate: Brooklyn DA “taking a look” into Brooklyn’s ACORN office. Update: Child-Whoring Pimp Assistance 7 identified; Dick Durbin (D-IL) Roland Burris (D-IL) Robert Casey (D-PA) Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) Patrick Leahy (D-VT) Bernie Sanders (I-VT) Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI) The big question will be whether the House follows suit. Nancy Pelosi may not be inclined to let an amendment come to the floor, but James O’Keefe and Hannah Giles may not be done yet, either. A few more of these videos and even Pelosi will have little choice but to slam the door on ACORN. The big test will be whether the Johanns amendment survives a conference committee. This isn’t over yet. Update (AP): Man, this house of cards is toppling fast: Meanwhile, Jerry Schmetterer, director of public information for the Kings County District Attorney’s Office, told FOXNews.com that officials will be “taking a look” into Brooklyn’s ACORN office. “We are going to be taking a look at the situation,” Schmetterer said Monday.

POPSRifqa Bary: Judge Says 17-Year-Old Muslim-to-Christian Convert Must Stay in Florida
Her father, she said earlier, had threatened to kill her for converting to Christianity. Today, her father, Mohamed Bary, a jeweler, told the judge that he just wants his daughter home and that she would be free to practice any religion she chooses. Before the hearing, Rifqa and her lawyers met with George Sheldon, secretary of Florida's Department of Children & Families, the agency now in charge of her safekeeping. He sat through the 50-minute hearing next to Gov. Charlie Crist's top lawyer, Rob Wheeler. "I have one concern. The governor has one concern," Sheldon said afterward. "That's the safety of the child." Sheldon and Wheeler, sitting shoulder-to-shoulder, demonstrated the extraordinary amount of attention this case has drawn. It has prompted a flood of support for the girl and barrage of criticism of Muslims, both in America and abroad. More than 400 people have sent e-mails to Crist's office, demanding that he get involved and save the girl . . .

POPSMore CIA Torture Docs to be Made Public This Week and Next Continued: He eviscerates Dick Cheney's much publicized explanation of the CIA interrogation tactics. So, we've got a lot to look forward to over the next week. The un-redacted statements from "high-level members of al Qaeda" will be released on Friday. However, these won't do much sway the opinions of Bush defenders. The 2004 CIA Inspector General report, having been prepared while Bush was still in power, will be more difficult to deflect. We can expect the CIA IG report to be released on June 19. Let's just hope the CIA doesn't get carried away with the black marker.

POPSCheney's Revenge: Coming to a Police Station Near You
A case in which torture was used by police to obtain a DNA sample from a suspect. What is deemed (ruled) acceptable today will become routine tomorrow. With police regularly using tasers to administer summary punishment to non-compliant civilians, it's not surprising that their use has now been authorized as a means of extracting self-incriminating evidence from criminal suspects. It is becoming more likely that tasers and any other “reasonable manner” (as determined by the prosecution) of enforcing compliance will be used to enforce court-ordered compliance. It is also becoming increasingly apparent that the use of torture during the Bush/Cheney regime needs to be addressed, quickly. As the author states: “Don't be surprised if, ere long, the interrogation rooms in American police departments mutate into CIA-style "black sites" of the sort now familiar to more than a few traumatized innocent foreigners.” How many times have the police have arrested the wrong person?
