POPSWill Dog Fighting Videos be Protected by Freedom of Speech? If the Supreme Court rules to uphold the conviction of Stevens, the law will be reinstated and animals will once again be protected from people who make money from their suffering. It seems like it should be an easy decision for the Supreme Court, but since the concept of free speech has come into question everyone from book publishers to movie producers, photographers, artists and journalists have gotten involved. They have taken animal cruelty out of the equation and replaced it with their own interests that they believe will be damaged if Stevens loses. Even the ACLU has gotten involved. The New York Times went as far as filing a “brief” in support of Stevens. They said, “The 1999 law imperils the media’s ability to report on issues related to animals.” Media publications cite that they are concerned that hunting and fishing magazines will be censored and general reporting on animal issues will be limited.

POPSIdaho police sodomize man with Taser
There is a case in Florida where a group of 14-year-old boys are going to be tried as adults because they sodomized one of their classmates with broomsticks and hockey sticks. These are cops in this case. Should be treated any differently? After an internal investigation, police determined that the first officer violated the department’s use-of-force policy. And the second officer violated department policy when he erased the taped interview. They have been “disciplined” and are to receive more training. This was a deviant and sadistic act. No amount of ‘training’ is going to suppress the trigger that allowed this individual to resort to this type of inhumane treatment. What is additionally disgusting is that none of the other cops present tried to stop this. It is unconscionable that police will allow this individual back on the street with only a slap on the wrist. I used to have respect for cops. Now I am scared to death and on guard whenever near a cop. Fear is no

POPSTorture is always wrong
"That's right; sodomy. Forcible anal penetration. The documentation of this and other forms of sexual humiliation is too extensive to be denied or pawned off on a couple of redneck privates. And we know now that sexual humiliation techniques were among those discussed and approved by the National Security Principals Committee, a White House group including Dick Cheney, Condoleezza Rice, Donald Rumsfeld, Colin Powell, George Tenet and John "History will not judge this kindly" Ashcroft. I don't want to come off as minimizing the horror of controlled drowning. It's just that there's something about anal rape that brings the torture issue into sharp focus. Just once, I'd like to hear one of these American Enterprise Institute psychos, the ones that always trot out to defend the neocons' freakish obsessions, have to defend shoving a flashlight up a guy's ass. I want to hear Frank Gaffney or Jonah Goldberg tell me why I shouldn't be fucking mortified that raping prisoners was considere

POPS A Statement from the Speaker of the House Had I known the real truth -- that they were describing the grim tools of a sadistic torture regime beyond the worst imaginings of Mengele himself -- I would have vigorously objected, and would have never cheerfully told my briefers, "play safely!" I am sorry for any confusion my earlier statements might have caused, and I hope this clarification puts the matter to rest. For future reference, please direct inquiries regarding torture issues within the California 8th District B&D community to my outreach coordinator Julian Julian Julian. All other torture-related issues should be directed to my National Security and Drag Queen Affairs Advisor, Lady Marmalade. Sincerely, Nancy Pelosi Speaker of the House of Representatives

POPSIran Sentences Bloggers to 124 Lashes Ouch. I wonder how that compares to a caning in Singapore. The head of Tehran’s court system, Abasali Alizadeh, told ISNA and IRNA, “Certain officers and judiciary’s officials committed violations throughout the case, including in extracting confessions from defendants.”

POPSPalestinian Christians Suffering 'Severe Blows' From Muslims... I have read hints of this but never have I read where a Muslim himself comes out and announces this for all to read. I hope he has some *protection* somewhere. FTA: "Palestinian Christians are indigenous to the land and “no different from us, with the same rights and obligations” as Muslims."

POPSU.S. and Allies Torture Kids in Iraq Prisons Former President Carter wrote that the Red Cross, Amnesty International and the Pentagon “have gathered substantial testimony of torture of children, confirmed by soldiers who witnessed or participated in the abuse.” UNICEF was “profoundly disturbed” by reports of abuse of children in Iraq prisons. “Any mistreatment, sexual abuse, exploitation or torture of children in detention is a violation of international law,” UNICEF spokesman Damien Peronnaz said. Not surprisingly, “One of the biggest complaints (by Iraqis) is that the vast majority of (U.S.) detainees have not been charged with any crime,”

POPSAdvice to prevent sexual assault I had read this before but I was reminded of it again after reading this story: http://clipmarks.com/clipmark/B555EB72-2614-4B46-97F6-B80CC5B4B15F/ The girl ended up alone with the assailant. The number one rule of what not to do. :(

POPSIn Love with Love: Watch Out!
By the second half of the 20th century, though, this culture of restraint had been jettisoned, and replaced by the idea that self-denial was self-abnegation. Now, in its general thrust, our culture is in love with the idea of love, awash with cock-eyed romanticism and unable to tell any more what's attraction, what's lust and what's love. Puberty, and even childhood is suffused with a popular music soundtrack that peddles endless trite paeans to the central importance of modern romance. The most surprising of people want naff anthems celebrating some songwriter's long-since ruined "true love" at their weddings. At some point, most teenage girls at least flirt with the idea of giving attraction a dry run by developing a crush on a pop star. Heaven knows what Wagner would make of it all. On the whole, people don't really like it when scientists tell them that attraction is all down to pheromones, or waist-to-hip proportion, or instinctive recognition of genetic differentiation.

POPSBoy 14 Forced into Oral Sex on another Prisoner!!! Mazin Younis, of the Iraqi League , who has travelled in Basra collecting witness statements of allegations of abuse, says he now has "more than 80" cases involving allegations against British troops. "Every single time I uncover a personal story of torture and humiliation in Iraq, I think to myself that I have seen the worst there is," Mr Younis added. "Then I hear the next story. "Hassan shook with emotion and humiliation as he described to me the treatment he suffered at the hands of British soldiers five years ago. It had taken constant prompting and repeated reminders about the importance of detail before Hassan felt brave enough to describe how he was forced to engage in oral sex with his friend Tariq while their British captors laughed raucously and took photographs."
