The British upper 1% parrot the US upper 1%. Gives me a warm fuzzy feeling inside (sic). However, Brown did state that Israel needs to back off in regards to the Palestinian state. Of course the Israelis didn't take kindly to this, sticking to their own version of manifest destiny.

tale of two rugby players

by notareargunner  7-13-2008
For those who have read this article before I make no apologies for repeating it. At a time when my friends are being liberated in Zimbabwe, the actions of Brown and that moron in America proved they are political non-entities in the extreme. Fancy announcing to the world that you have a universal agreement with the other powers for sanctions against Mugabe without first getting the ink on the document. Go to East Glasgow and get your inept party elected. No wonder my grandfather left if that is the standard of reason there exists in Jockland. Go to the article and read carefully. The honest and decent person has no rights in this world where colour has more sway that justice. One of my friend's family had been in Southern Africa for almost 500 years. He now lives in poverty in Portugal.

This issue is poignant at a time when SIR Robert Mugabe is cocking his nose at the whole world. When you look at his cohorts one has to wonder why the World gives this collection of bigots, dictators, non democratic leaders a second look, let alone increasing the coffers of the despot leadership.

Peace Talks Yet Israel Dramatically Expands Settlements
DanaGarrett
by DanaGarrett  6-27-2008
Although peace talks between Israel and the Palestinians in the West Bank resumed in Annapolis MD, Israel continues to expands its illegal settlements in the West Bank. It's contrary to the Geneva Convention to transfer part of a conquering nation's population into territories occupied because of a war. Over 200,000 Israeli settlers violate international law every day in the West Bank, yet Israel continues to expand the settlements. If Israel wanted a better way to sabotage the peace process, then it would be hard put to find a better means than expanding the settlements. Yet the present Israeli government claims it has done more to reduce settlements than any other administration. A 90% increase is supposed to be a better record. What a joke.

Chomsky: Israel is heading for destruction
RaiseClip
by RaiseClip  6-22-2008
This is the only result when greed becomes an end unto itself. The society is greedy. Swinishly greedy. Along with the greed comes a blinding selfishness in which they think of themselves only and the rest of the human race can go to hell. How long can this go on. How long can AIPAC fool the stupid taxpayers of the US? As they find themselves more and more on the street while Israel's settlers bask in the sun next to their lavish swimming pools, even the dumbest of Americans will start to ask questions.

Murder in Cold Blood is Cool ... for Israeli Jews ONLY
RaiseClip
by RaiseClip  5-20-2008    1
Bet you ten bucks, no Jews will go to jail for murdering a Palestinian in cold blood. In fact, as one can see the pattern from the story, the Palestinian man who stayed behind with the dying man is the only one in an Israeli torture center (which they call a jail). The world continues sitting by and is obliged to not notice something amiss in the State of Justice.

Until the mid-19th century, Jaffa's orange groves were mainly owned by Arabs, who employed traditional methods of farming. Uri Avnery: Manifest Destiny?
Rasmus
by Rasmus  4-15-2008    2
Note: Manifest Destiny was the belief that the United States was destined to expand from the Atlantic seaboard to the Pacific Ocean; it has also been used to advocate for or justify other territorial acquisitions. Advocates of Manifest Destiny believed that expansion was not only good, but that it was obvious ("manifest") and certain ("destiny"). Settlers LIES Revealed in Court:1st Time
righthand
by righthand  3-17-2008    2
Revealed for the first time,in court, how for the settlers conspire with the Council and the army, IDF, to keep the Arabs off their land for 3 years while the settlers worked it unimpeded.. After the 3 years the Arabs lose their land and its then signed by the state to the settlers. There was always knowledge of this but it never could be proved. Now a Council official has given evidence in court. This happened then Arabs first demonstrated to the court how the IDF kept Arabs off their land even after the court gave clear direction. Personally, given the past record, I cannot see this irrefutable evidence being allowed as the whole rotten system would tumble if they could not steal the Arab land

Guns in Class: Professor fired
righthand
by righthand  3-5-2008    2
"predictable has been outrage from the right. Last month two leaders of extremist Jewish settlers in Hebron, Baruch Marzel and Itimar Ben Gvir, announced that they had enrolled on Hassan's course. "I would love for him to ask me about my army service," said Marzel. "I can only assure you that he will be the one walking out of the classroom." The army added its voice too, with senior officers, including the Chief of Staff, Ashkenazi, putting pressure on Sapir College to publicly rebuke the film-maker and punish him. A letter from the head of army personnel, General Elazar Stern, accused the college of failing to act with "proper determination" and urged that Hassan face "sharp, public, official condemnation." Stern added that Hassan must be made to apologize or be sacked, otherwise the army would end its funding of places for hundreds of soldiers who attend courses at Sapir." ...AlterNet

20 things that culturally define Australia
Aribeth
by Aribeth  2-18-2008    3
Mateship Mateship is different from friendship. It means more than that. In Australia mateship is not just the expression of being one's friend, but being loyal to one's friend. You stick by your mates, no matter what. If they are in a bit of strife or under fire with criticism, you stick up for them. If your mate needs a helping hand, you give them that helping hand, and then enjoy a beer with 'em afterwards. Aboriginal Flag Designed by Harold Thomas in 1971, the Aboriginal Flag represents Aboriginal Australians as a symbol of their rich culture and history. The black represents the people on the land, and the dark skies of night. The red represents the land, and the ochre used in Aboriginal Art - and also the blood of Aboriginal Australians during fighting with early white settlers. The yellow circle represents the sun; the renewer of life. (much more at the source)

Americanism: The good, the bad and the ugly
Rasmus
by Rasmus  2-16-2008    1
The famous go-to-war-for “American way of life,” underlines America’s persistent claims of a monopoly on morality. What is it, this American morality? This righteousness? Is it our religious roots in the fable of the Puritan settlers, those super religious people who in their hardships were bigots, perhaps also practitioners of incest and racists soon morphing into dogmatic chauvinists who early-on labeled their dissidents and different-thinkers witches and demons. The same Americanism initiated then which today fosters the rights of the rich to become richer, the strong to trample the weak . Meanwhile, out in the empire, as long as it is distant, the Puritan legacy instills blindness to the use of cluster bombs from the stratosphere and hidden torture in places with foreign names like Guantánamo and Abu Ghraib . . . and while our neighbors in Haiti eat dirt, literally.
