POPSGhost Town Tourism For a modern-day travel mystery, try visiting a ghost town. I'm not referring to a town with paranormal activity, but one that has been abandoned or forgotten. The article I've clipped discusses this practice and points out that it can be exciting and a little dangerous.

POPS Secret memo shows Israel knew Settlements were illegal The argument that the settlements are illegal, stated in successive UN resolutions, and by the International Court of Justice advisory opinion condemning the separation barrier in 2004, is reinforced by such an authoritative source. It strengthens the political case in any "final status" negotiations on borders with the Palestinians for genuinely equitable land swaps of Israeli territory to a future Palestinian state if Israel is to retain settlement blocks.

POPSLand-owners Losing Their Olive Trees to the Wall No. It cannot be. These can't be the same people who want worldwide sympathy and crocodile tears for what allegedly happened to them in 1942. Property seized. If these are the same people who are now doing EXACTLY what Nazis did to them, they don't deserve anyone's sympathy - least of all not mine.

POPSPeace Talks Yet Israel Dramatically Expands Settlements Although peace talks between Israel and the Palestinians in the West Bank resumed in Annapolis MD, Israel continues to expands its illegal settlements in the West Bank. It's contrary to the Geneva Convention to transfer part of a conquering nation's population into territories occupied because of a war. Over 200,000 Israeli settlers violate international law every day in the West Bank, yet Israel continues to expand the settlements. If Israel wanted a better way to sabotage the peace process, then it would be hard put to find a better means than expanding the settlements. Yet the present Israeli government claims it has done more to reduce settlements than any other administration. A 90% increase is supposed to be a better record. What a joke.

POPSA third of all US aid goes to Israel more than to any other nation. Our tax dollars in action, being shipped over seas to help a foreign country that needs less aid than countries like Africa. 10-15 million dollars a day to Israel! And don't you dare question it citizen or we'll brandish you anti-Semitic. Which begs the question, what other countries/races get their own term for begrudging them? If you talk disparagingly about Jews you are anti-Semitic. What are you if you talk bad about the Danes, or the Australians, or Asians? Ponder how odd it is to cherry-pick which races get terms like this and what power that carries and to whose benefit.

POPSObama's missteps Obama's unnecessary promise deviates from nearly six decades of U.S. foreign policy that held Jerusalem to be occupied territory under international law. This long tradition was first broken in 2004 when President Bush acknowledged Israel's demands to keep its illegal West Bank settlements in a final peace agreement, including those around Jerusalem. Thus Obama, a Harvard-trained lawyer, would both scorn the international legal system's foundational principle -- the inadmissibility of territorial acquisition by war -- and echo President Bush, whose failed Middle East policies he has rightly deplored. If Sen. Obama's Philadelphia speech on race was a model of courage and nuance, his AIPAC talk was brimming with the pro-Israel orthodoxy that typifies this year's presidential campaign. Like presumptive Republican nominee Sen. John McCain, Obama also backed Israel's so-called right to exist as a Jewish state.

POPSFISA Legislation: Congress Still Dithering! That bill hit a wall when the trial lawyers asked Pelosi to preserve their chance to earn huge contingency fees in lawsuits against the telecoms alleging the sort of class-action tort claims used to blackmail big companies into high-dollar settlements. These lawsuits aren’t merely the latest evolution in class action ambulance chasing. They are a form of “lawfare”: the use of the courts to interfere in America’s conduct in the war the terrorists are waging against us. The compromise measure reportedly enables the telecoms to obtain civil immunity by showing a court a request for cooperation from the government that assured the company that cooperation was legal. The trial lawyers and several liberal senators, chief among them Wisconsin’s Russell Feingold, are trying to block the compromise. Their amen chorus among the politically-activist media are working hard to help them.

POPSSaudis Pushing U.N. Démarche Against Israel The dispute over oil appears to be part of a larger rift between the two countries, with a London-based Al-Quds al-Arabi reporting recently that relations have reached their lowest point in years. The Saudis seek strong American backing against Iran," Mr. Gold, a former Israeli U.N. ambassador who has written extensively on the kingdom, said. "They don't want to hear from Condi Rice about diplomatic progress between Abbas and Israel. They want to know what America is doing about Iran." The Saudis, he said, base their policies on their strong alliance with America — or on Arab consensus. When the Israeli government earlier this month announced that it was planning to build nearly 900 new housing units in Jerusalem, ecretary-General Ban issued a strong statement: Israel's "continued construction in settlements in the occupied Palestinian territory" violates international law and Israel's obligations under the road map and the Annapolis process.

POPSIsrael cuts off Palestinian tax funds as relations hit new low You wonder how a society can stomach so much cruelty and barbarity. But armed with stories of how much they were persecuted in Nazi Germany, these "victims" feel absolutely wonderful and even cheerful about the extent its cruelty to an entire people. What is wrong with Israel? I cannot fathom how it can be the direct source of so much pain and mistery. Any society with a heart and soul would be embarrassed and ashamed that their beloved country perpetrates terrorism and cruelty - mostly at the innocent. Israel withholds money that is rightfully tax revenues for Palestinians, keep the enormous amount of interest and then turn around and have the gall to say people just pick on poor peaceful Israel.

POPSProphecy of retribution No this can't be true. The Jews of today try to shove down our throats that there wasn't anyone living in Palestine before the Jews arrived and everyone knows the chosen people do not lie.

POPSIsraeli Housing Minister to permit 1460 new housing units in East Jerusalem settlements I find it odd that more Jews of good will do not stand up against all that is done in their name. Many KNOW how wrong this is, but far too many are silent. Silence to oppression is complicity. Thus, it looks as if the full-time job of Jews is stealing. Every time you look up, there is a Jewish name connected to stealing mega-millions in land, money and extracting favors from the suckers of America. I know there are many Jews who are appalled at the blatancy and frequency of the abuse by Israel's Jews, but who remain silent, lest they be labeled "self-hating Jew." SPEAK UP. SPEAK UP. SPEAK UP. What Israel does to Palestinians is as bad as anything anywhere at any time in all of human history.

POPSIsraeli and US Death Squads Infesting the World Yes, "infesting" is the right word. No laws. No restraints. Just the whim of the most hateful and greediest people the world has ever known. There is not one single crime against humanity which the US and Israel hesitates to commit in ANY country they damn well please. You want to know true evil? Start here.

POPSWhy Doctors Have "GTT" This has allowed doctors and hospitals to cut costs and even increase the resources devoted to charity care. Take Christus Health, a nonprofit Catholic health system across the state. Thanks to tort reform, over the past four years Christus saved $100 million that it otherwise would have spent fending off bogus lawsuits or paying higher insurance premiums. Every dollar saved was reinvested in helping poor patients. Texas recently became home to more Fortune 500 companies than New York and California. Things are trending well for the Lone Star State. Anecdotally, we can see that while doctors are moving in, trial lawyers are packing up and heading west. They're GTC -- Gone to California.

POPS"Cave Dwellers" series pics "'Palestinian 'cave-dwellers' are local community who traditionally inhabit caves in the Hebron hills. Their lives have been almost unaffected by modern times for the past 200 years. In the last three decades the small and traditional community has sometimes found itself in a fierce and violent battle over the land. In the 70s Israel has declared the area as 'closed military area' Four times the residents have been expelled from their land."

POPSThe Loathsome Smearing of Israel’s Critics
The response? There was little attempt to dispute the facts I offered. Instead, some of the most high profile “pro-Israel” writers and media monitoring groups — including Honest Reporting and Camera — said I an anti-Jewish bigot akin to Joseph Goebbels and Mahmoud Ahmadinejadh, while Melanie Phillips even linked the stabbing of two Jewish people in North London to articles like mine. Vast numbers of e-mails came flooding in calling for me to be sacked. Any attempt to describe accurately the situation for Palestinians is met like this. If you recount the pumping of sewage onto Palestinian land, “Honest Reporting” claims you are reviving the anti-Semitic myth of Jews “poisoning the wells.” If you interview a woman whose baby died in 2002 because she was detained — in labour — by Israeli soldiers at a checkpoint within the West Bank, “Honest Reporting” will say you didn’t explain “the real cause”: the election of Hamas in, um, 2006. And on, and on.

POPS800 lb Gorillas Since I've been on this earth there has been conflict here. I applaud any efforts to bring peace but know that it is failed from the start if Israeli complicity in exacerbating the situation with their expansionism is acknowledged and brought to a halt.
