POPSBush Raises Temp On Global Warming Granted, President Bush doesn't intend for his simple decision to offer legislation to regulate carbon emissions to have such catastrophic consequences. But then, by this point, he should be quite familiar with the concept of unintended consequences. And he needs to recognize that he cannot pass "sensible" legislation. (I have serious doubts that any legislation on this topic could be sensible.) All he can do is set the stage for next year's legislation by giving away the rhetorical store and weakening the already modest backbone of Republican legislators. The liberal world order will not let go of their global warming assault on free economies until hell freezes over -- by which point, obviously, the global warming theory will be visibly disproved.

POPSBush's Legacy? Torture I have nothing but contempt for this man. In fact, I actually have serious doubts concerning his sanity. His reign can't be over soon enough.

POPS“Scientific Consensus” That Paves The Road To Nowhere Now maybe all of this - and there’s lots more - isn’t enough for Gore, but it is producing results, many of which could be important for anti-pollution, oil-conserving purposes beyond any possible curtailing of global warming, and we have meanwhile learned from the Kyoto Protocol that ill-considered grandiosity doesn’t produce anything but braggadocio about good intentions that pave the road to nowhere. Supposedly, there’s a “scientific consensus” that human-induced warming will deliver a series of enormous catastrophes if left untreated, but the extent of concurrence has never been what it has mostly been made out to be. Sen. James Inhofe (R-Okla.) recently released a list of 400 of the growing number of reputable scientists from all over the world who have voiced serious doubts about one aspect or another of the thesis.

POPSYeah! I'm not a psychopath!!! I have serious doubts about such "tests" yet I found it very rewarding that I got it wrong. If you get it right it could mean that you're simply more creative than others.

POPS British Spy Chiefs: CIA 'Hoodwinked' By Iran British spy chiefs have grave doubts that Iran has mothballed its nuclear weapons programme, as a US intelligence report claimed last week, and believe the CIA has been hoodwinked by Teheran. Analysts believe that Iranian staff, knowing their phones were tapped, deliberately gave misinformation The timing of the CIA report has also provoked fury in the British Government, where officials believe it has undermined efforts to impose tough new sanctions on Iran and made an Israeli attack on its nuclear facilities more likely. The security services in London want concrete evidence to allay concerns that the Islamic state has fed disinformation to the CIA. The report used new evidence - including human sources, wireless intercepts and evidence from an Iranian defector - to conclude that Teheran suspended the bomb-making side of its nuclear programme in 2003.

POPSSibel Edmonds Will Now Tell All If anyone doubts that there is a serious need for a REAL criminal investigation needs to refrain from drawing conclusions and objectively look at the hard evidence for and against the official conspiracy theory of 9/11. For example research the testimony given by Captain Karin Deshore: http://www.911blogger.com/node/12296

POPSClimate Change Science-Time for Team'B'? "Climate Alarm: Where Does It Comes From?" remarks to the George C. Marshall Institute, December 1, 2004, available at http://www.marshall.org/article.php?id=264. ================ Quote from early stages of the global warming campaign----- we need to get some broad based support, to capture the public imagination. That of course means getting loads of media coverage. So we have to offer up some scary scenarios, make simplified dramatic statements and little mention of any doubts one might have. . . . Each of us has to decide what the right balance is between being effective, and being honest. I hope that means being both." From Jonathan Schell, "Our Fragile Earth," Discover (October 1989)

POPSUS: Seeking Vengeance not Justice is self-defeating!!!
The US ignored promising overtures from longstanding adversaries, rejected the advice of previously close allies, and set dangerous precedents that will haunt US foreign policy for decades. Through it all, US policymakers either relied on or hid behind the excuse of faulty intelligence, which contributed to the failures to track the Sep11 perpetrators prior to the attacks The "global war on terror" has been going on now for over 6 years. Its emphasis on military responses - in Afghanistan and Iraq - has only swelled the ranks of terrorist organizations. The erosion of civil liberties has undermined democracy at home and raised serious doubts abroad about US credibility. The failure to put adequate funds into homeland security - particularly port and border protection - has put too great a burden on local governments. The hostility to international mechanisms such as the International Criminal Court has weakened the very institutions that can properly address terrorist organizatio

POPSDoubts Cast on Highly Qualified Teacher Status Just a couple of things here. First, it is difficult to blame teachers for teaching in compliance with the law. NCLB stresses basic skills and not problem solving, Furthermore, NCLB places an inordinate stress level on teachers, so much so that they have little time to attend to things teachers traditionally attended to such as emotional support. Secondly, bashing teachers is unproductive. The profession is hard enough without someone standing over one's head with a cudgel ready to strike a final blow. If we are serious about quality education then we need to rethink educational policy so that standards are used to guide conversations about curriculum and curricular decisions, that these conversations are supported by policy and law, that they engage teachers in both horizontal and vertical planning, and that teachers be valued as professional members of the educational team. Otherwise, we are just in for more of the same.

POPSMistrial I like this article a lot, but what makes it even better, is that I just heard a couple of hours ago, that the judge hearing Ehren Watada's case has declared a mistrial. There are serious doubts if the military is going to try to reopen the case, what with all the negative publicity surrounding it.

POPSLeaked White House Memo Questions Maliki's Competency “We returned from Iraq convinced we need to determine if Prime Minister Maliki is both willing and able to rise above the sectarian agendas being promoted by others,” the memo says. “Do we and Prime Minister Maliki share the same vision for Iraq? If so, is he able to curb those who seek Shia hegemony or the reassertion of Sunni power? The answers to these questions are key in determining whether we have the right strategy in Iraq.”
