POPSGuess Who Wants to Control the Internet? On last night's Daily Show, Jon Stewart took up the issue of "net neutrality" and Senator John McCain's efforts to create one of those ironically named pieces of legislation that sounds like it is going to deliver something good -- in this case "Internet Freedom" -- but would actually make the Internet suck out loud, forever and ever. POPSEnsign back in D.C.; group plans ethics complaint In yet another blow against ethics, Republican Sen. John Ensign returned to the capital today to handshakes from colleagues. What does this say of his colleagues? Do they condone his behavior? Senator John Ensign called for Bill Clinton and Larry Craig to resign over sexual misconduct, and then cheated on his wife with a married staffer. This "defender of marriage" should have the dignity to resign now. But dignity is in short supply in politics. Therefore, it is business as usual in the nations capital. Does his affair mean we cannot trust him to speak for his constituents? If nothing else, it lessens his authority on ethics issues but we already know that any talk of ethics reform from politicians is nothing more than hot air. If you cannot live up to the vows you make to your spouse in front of God then how can you be trusted to live up to your promises to the people who put you in office? The 'ole boys club' ethics wins again.

POPSSTOP the NYS Tax Increases Heard this on the radio this morning... they're sneaking through Big tax increases and hidden taxes on energy, drivers licenses, and MUCH Much More despite getting Billions from the Federal Stimulus! All it takes is one Democrat to vote against it and there are two that are on the fence. They are voting today and tomorrow. Listen to the podcast and pass it along it's outrageous. Then if you want, call the state senators in the clip above and encourage them to vote against the tax increases. http://www.wor710.com/topic/play_window.php?audioType=Episode&audioId=3600895

POPS'Danger of the Fairness Doctrine Coming Back Is Completely Imaginary'
Dennis Kucinich is also rumored to be involved. The Da Vinci Code it ain't. Wallace asked the top adviser about an issue making the rounds on both conservative and liberal radio shows, where Democratic Congressional leaders ( and even Bill Clinton ) have recently weighed in. "Will you rule out reimposing the Fairness Doctrine?" asked Wallace. "I'm going to leave that issue to Julius Genachowski, our new head of the FCC, to, and the president, to discuss," Axelrod said. "So I don't have an answer for you now." In June, press secretary Michael Ortiz told Broadcasting & Cable that "Sen. Obama does not support reimposing the Fairness Doctrine on broadcasters." But since becoming president, it's been difficult to get such a definitive statement. Here's a list of co-sponsors of the Broadcaster Freedom Act. http://demint.senate.gov/public/index.cfm?FuseAction=PressReleases.Detail&PressRelease_id=b21a8827-daa8-cfc0-cb35-5849cc7b2868

POPSHis Ultimate Indecent Behavior "However, in the public court of reasonable opinion, I think Larry Craig would be found guilty with forethought and conspiracy of multiple counts to commit hypocrisy. Unfortunately, this crime is not punished by any jail sentence or fine. Craig's punishment will have to be the resignation of his office and a return to, can I say, private life as a civilian where he will no doubt write a book describing the pain he's endured from the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune and his hounding from office by who, the Puritans of public decency, the very constituency he claimed to represent?"

POPSNotes on a (bunch of) Scandals This seems to represent one of the most perplexing American of phenomena. Our tolerance of serial idiots. Why is it that we invite them back? Why is it so hard to ruin your reputation? I don't believe the author is write, regurgitating the hackneyed "short attention span" argument. Something way more complicated is going on than that. Perhaps we let them come back because we secretly want more. More of the easy, mindless answers they give us. More of the distracting scandal that makes us feel better about ourselves. The author ignores the 700 lbs. Gorilla in the "train wreck" room: George W. Bush. After all his failures and deceptions, why do people still trust him? Do we really run from the truth? Or is it that watching their failures verifies our own righteousness? Nader said it best: he would rather see Bush president than Gore, because Bush would prove him right.

POPSLarry Craig's Denials Continue to Be Denied The louder he claims about his being straight to the core, the more men come out and report having had sexual encounters with him. Larry Craig just doesn't get it, does he? He really seems to believe that his denials, no matter how clear the evidence, that he is not gay, will obscure all allegations of his practices in private. As I have said in the past, I do not believe in entrapment, and I am not please with the way the police proceeded with his case, however, his constant lying does not help his cause, and it only, once again, shows how much self-loathing he possesses.
