Loving what is!
robm47
by robm47  10-24-2009
The source of happiness is loving what is. Byron Katie's The Work, boils it down to just a few simple questions you need to ask yourself before you get your knickers in a knot.

HOW RELEVANT IS TWITTER?
JICWyllie
by JICWyllie  6-9-2009
Beyond relevance is significance. Twitter produces data which is almost impossible to interpret from the content after the fact, simply because there is too much of it, and its "granuality" is too small. It is, however, possible (indeed unavoidable) to infer significance from this data: e.g. waxing and waning group concerns (which can then in turn be analysed using # words, or by types of sources, etc.) It is the stats themselves which are the object of inquiry, as such, they are "self signifying". Types of content can be treated as indicators which can be counted, the results of which are simply another (meta?) level of information which consciousness can use in its sense making quest. Gingrish: 'Abolute obligation' to investigate Pelosi
disenchantedcitizen
by disenchantedcitizen  5-16-2009    1
Let's put this another way: 'Absolute obligation' to investigate Bush & Cheney Millions of people say Bush "lied to the House" when he claimed that Iraq had WMD (plus a long list of other lies) which is considered unethical by any self-respecting society. "I think that the House has an absolute obligation to open an inquiry, and I hope there will be a resolution to investigate them. And I think this is a big deal. I don't think the President of the US can lie to the country on national security matters," the people of the US have been saying for years.

Blackburn Peer deep in the trough.
notareargunner
by notareargunner  4-27-2009
At a time when former Blackburn landlord, Andy Miller, was meeting an ignominious death, the Peer from Blackburn was destroying the last vestiges of moral fibre in Lancashire. Whilst Andy's family wait the outcome of a strange internal investigation into the Courts’ involvement in his death, the Labour administration shows all the attitude of fiefdom in delaying the report. Why? What is so embarrassing that the investigator denied the main witnesses legal representation? Not that there is any suggestion of impropriety on the family’s behalf, but because for the truth to out there has to be fairness and equity. Neither has been permitted to the innocent and naive witnesses to this tragic and unnecessary harassment of an aging, unwell man. Whilst Labour sink into the abyss of self destruct arrogance, a decent Lancashire family have been left like mushrooms.

Canada's tarnished international image
chara
by chara  1-6-2009    10
The film is from the 1980s and the news is from the late 1970. The Issue of this story took place in the 70s and 80s and was tried before the courts in Canada in the late 80s and 90s. This has been very well documented and was big news in Canada and Europe all along the 80s and into the 90s. The Church that ran those schools had to pay millions in damages and many priests where jailed. All you have to do is go on the Canadian Government web site and Indian Affair Ministry as well as the Justice department and see for your self.

McCain's Hero Status is Phony
papananook
by papananook  8-6-2008    12
McCain's war hero image is fair game and needs to be challenged as well, especially since the Senator beats his chest as the self-appointed arbiter of national military honor and homeland security. The history has been well documented that John McCain received special treatment when he was prisoner of war in Hanoi, in exchange for making over 30 propaganda commercials for the North Vietnamese. In fact, fellow POW's have testified that McCain was considered the best candidate for these films by the North Vietnamese, because he was willing to do anything to avoid torture. They note that the communists even called him "THE SONGBIRD". Ted Sampley, founder of 'Swiftboat Veterans for Truth' and now one of the founders of 'Vietnam Veterans Against John McCain', has stated on their website that even after McCain came home from his captivity he went so far as to deny that MIA's might even still be in Vietnam alive. McCain had the audacity to criticize and ignore the very same people who

Neo Cons Warp the Meaning of Academic Freedom
dmegivern
by dmegivern  8-26-2007    5
I was harassed by a neo-con student when I was a professor. She kept changing the subject from actual class material. The first day she talked about prayer in school (not a topic covered in this course), when I was trying to just go over the syllabus. Most frustrating, she had zero critical thinking skills, dominated the class, and angered the other students.

A little-noticed provision in the Patriot Act
schreibe
by schreibe  2-7-2007    4
"American justice system would be seriously damaged if United States attorneys were stripped of their independence." Here they go again! Stack the deck in favor of the Pres, and his cohorts. Is a shameful act of self serving, and disregard for justice. The phrase in the constitution that says "pursuit of happiness" really was meant (in language of that day) to say the ability to pursue truth and justice.....not so much just vague "happiness". Sure is interesting how Truth and Justice has been trampled on by this administration. Anything goes for them, as long as the final result is what they want. To hell with truth and justice!....is their motto......we just need to win! Karl Rove is a master at that game!
