POPSThe Hole at the Heart of Our Strategy ~ Mark Steyn
...to the “noble” “heroism” of suicide bombers and, indeed, objectively supporting the other side in an active war is to be regarded as just some kind of alternative lifestyle that adds to the general vibrancy of the base. Since 9/11, we have, as the Twitterers recommend, judged people by their actions " flying planes into skyscrapers, blowing themselves up in Bali nightclubs or London Tube trains, planting IEDs by the roadside in Baghdad or Tikrit. And on the whole we’re effective at responding with action of our own " taking out training camps in Afghanistan, rolling up insurgency networks in Fallujah and Ramadi, intercepting terror plots in London and Toronto and Dearborn. But we’re scrupulously non-judgmental about the ideology that drives a man to fly into a building or self-detonate on the subway, and thus we have a hole at the heart of our strategy. We use rhetorical conveniences like “radical Islam” or, if that seems a wee bit Islamophobic .......

POPSMysterious Private Security Firm Gets Control Of Empty Jail In Small Montana Town This is what happens when a town is desperate for money and they have no qualms about selling their soul to a renegade paramilitary force. APF plans to build a training facility “where law enforcement will get sniper training and learn "DNA analysis" skills”. APF refuses to divulge the source of the $30 million that will be used to fund this endeavor. According to their Blackwater-esque website http://www.americanpolicegroup.com/special.html they will be capable of providing training for all types of law enforcement organizations. It seems all those rumors of the ‘coming police state’ have just received another reason to ‘validate’ their fears. http://educate-yourself.org/nwo/nwocomingpoliceindex.shtml http://www.etherzone.com/2005/rose101705.shtml http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/171541-the-coming-police-state http://www.davidicke.com/content/view/26440

POPSMysterious Private Security Firm Gets Control Of Empty Jail In Small Montana Town
Just what American Police Force plans to do with the detention facility, which comes with 50 acres of land in the small south-central Montana town, is unclear. Also not clear is who, if anyone, APF plans to put in the jail . The 10-year contract that is now awaiting final approval of lawyers gives APF the option of building a training facility, said Al Peterson, spokesman for the Hardin economic development authority. APF has said it plans to invest $30 million in the site, including $17M in the training facility, where law enforcement will get sniper training and learn "DNA analysis" skills. And where is American Police Force getting the money for this venture? Company spokeswoman Becky Shay -- until about a week ago the Billings Gazette reporter covering APF -- says they are no plans to answer that question. She did not respond to a request for comment. POPSFEMA Grant to ACORN is Offensive Rest of Article Below... I’ve had grave reservations about ACORN for some time, and over the past year we’ve seen numerous examples of serious allegations of wrongdoing on the part of this organization and its employees across the country. I simply can’t see the logic behind diverting much needed funding from worthy fire departments to this organization. So last week, I wrote a letter to Secretary of Homeland Security, Janet Napolitano requesting that she rescind this grant from ACORN. As of today, the Secretary has not responded to my request. This site will post a copy of the letter for you to read and see for yourself. Rest assured, I’ll keep working to help prevent further ACORN schemes to procure federal money. POPSFEMA Grant to ACORN is Offensive Yes, it is! Our capital city is trying to cut back on police officers and to merge fire-fighters and the EMS to save money (which in itself is ridiculous), but I'd be willing to guess that our local ACORN organization got some of this money. Especially since our RINO Governor took all the Stimulus money and we've seen no apparent changes.

POPS The Biden Plan
Among the alternatives being presented to Mr. Obama is Mr. Biden’s suggestion to revamp the strategy altogether. Instead of increasing troops, officials said, Mr. Biden proposed scaling back the overall American military presence. Rather than trying to protect the Afghan population from the Taliban, American forces would concentrate on strikes against Qaeda cells, primarily in Pakistan, using special forces, Predator missile attacks and other surgical tactics. The Americans would accelerate training of Afghan forces and provide support as they took the lead against the Taliban. But the emphasis would shift to Pakistan. Mr. Biden has often said that the United States spends something like $30 in Afghanistan for every $1 in Pakistan, even though in his view the main threat to American national security interests is in Pakistan. Mr. Obama rejected Mr. Biden’s approach in March, and it is not clear that it has more traction this time. But the fact that it is on the table again . . .

POPSBack to the Good Old Days, Or, Why Are We In Honduras Anyway?
First, at least six of the military officers who implemented the coup and the subsequent Iran-like repression of pro-democracy protests are graduates of the (in)famous "School of the Americas." The SOA, providing US training to Latin American military personnel, has long been known throughout Latin America as the "School of Coups," or sometimes the "School of Assassins," because so many coup plotters and abusers of human rights have trained there. The coup leaders in Honduras, Generals Romeo Vasquez and Luis Suazo, are both SOA alumni, twice so in the case of Vasquez, and other coup plotters are also SOA grads. Although the SOA has officially changed its name to "Western Hemisphere Institute for Security Cooperation," the old epithet "school of coups" evidently still fits. And despite the coup, Honduran soldiers are still training at the SOA as if nothing had changed. A long-running movement to close the SOA as part of a new "good neighbor policy" toward Latin America has gained

POPSAmericans Are Living and Dying In A Militarized Police State
Criminals have gotten better armed and more violent. Drug dealers are notorious for carrying weapons and historically have easily outgunned police. So these are reasons why police have become more heavily weaponized. Plus, respect for police has gone into the crapper. Blame for this lies with the police as well as with civilians. Frustration on both sides heat up seemingly benign situations and if there is a gun within reach someone is going to suffer. This has created a very dangerous atmosphere for unarmed citizens which has lead to increased gun sales. It has become an arms race between citizens and their protectors. All of this adds up to the increased need to protect our rights to bear arms and to loudly declare our opposition to our government paving the way for martial law. No one wants to see our cities become militarized police zones. Read the clip for horror stories of police and civilians over-reacting on misinformation usually resulting in death.

POPSCanada to train Mexican police in 15-mln-dlr program "Canada would also provide training for 300 mid-level officers, the statement added. With killings in suspected drug attacks in Mexico approaching 10,000 since the start of 2008, Mexican President Felipe Calderon was expected to seek more support for his controversial military crackdown on the country's warring drug gangs during the two-day summit also attend by US President Barack Obama. The meeting came amid criticism of alleged abuses committed by some of the 40,000 soldiers deployed across the country, and reports of growing Mexican drug gang activity across the United States, Canada and beyond."
