Liberals Co-opted
willhelm
by willhelm  2-7-2008    10
Liberals are not really Liberal anymore and Conservatives are not really Conservative ! Additional excerpt: "In a modified version of the Stoic conception of the earth as a living organism possessed of its own soul, neo-pantheist dialectical materialism declares that earth is “one entire organism…its organs the various races and nations of men.” Not only is the earth alive and evolving upward on evolution’s magical escalator, but so too are history and society, for they also are living entities in a continuous state of motion. And man? In a modified conception of Atomism’s extremely dehumanizing view of man, dialectical materialism states that man is nothing but “a colonial aggregation of cells,” and to “consider him an individual would be an error.” Man---the aggregate of cells--- is nothing but an extension of society, history, and earth. Are You Washed In The Blood?
debbyski
by debbyski  2-1-2008    22
"A campaign had emerged to promote the idea that the Bible was entirely without error, even in matters of history and science. Some feared that more liberal theological positions were being taught in the convention's seminaries. n August, he visited the White House. In "Our Endangered Values," Carter recalls Smith saying, at the close of their meeting, "We are praying, Mr. President, that you will abandon secular humanism as your religion." HMMMMM . . . where have I heard that before? I thinky maybe here on CM, yes I do. I think I have had that charge leveled on me that I MUST be a secular humanist. God FORBID that I promote peace, I MUST be a pacifist -(even though Jesus was the ultimate pacifist). God FORBID I must be a voice against violence, homophobia, patriarchy, sexism, and racism. I MUST be secular. God wouldn't want those values; the only values God wants are crotch based.

Point of Inquiry podcasts
edgewalker
by edgewalker  10-9-2007    1
Point of Inquiry is the premiere podcast of the Center for Inquiry, drawing on CFI’s relationship with the leading minds of the day including Nobel Prize-winning scientists, public intellectuals, social critics and thinkers, and renowned entertainers. Each episode combines incisive interviews, features and commentary focusing on CFI’s issues: religion, human values and the borderlands of science. Point of Inquiry explores CFI’s three research areas: 1. Pseudoscience and the paranormal (Bigfoot, UFOs, psychics, communication with the dead, cryptozoology, etc.) 2. Alternative medicine (faith healing, homeopathy, “healing touch,” the efficacy of prayer, etc.) 3. Religion and secularism (church-state separation, the effects and proper role of religion in society, the future of secularism and nonbelief, etc.) Contributors to Point of Inquiry include Lauren Becker, Paul Kurtz, Benjamin Radford, Dawkins, Sam Harris, Joe Nickell, Barry Karr, Tom Flynn, David Koepsell, and many m

Atheists Need to Chill
Kore7
by Kore7  8-26-2007    39
Michael Shermer makes a point that needs to be made. Atheists need to remember what they stand for , not merely what they are against . Ridicule and contempt have no place in science, and haters should not tarnish its reputation by association. In the words of the greatest consciousness raiser of the 20th century, Martin Luther King, Jr., in his epic "I Have a Dream" speech: "In the process of gaining our rightful place, we must not be guilty of wrongful deeds. Let us not seek to satisfy our thirst for freedom by drinking from the cup of bitterness and hatred. We must forever conduct our struggle on the high plane of dignity and discipline." If atheists do not want theists to prejudge them in a negative light, then they must not do unto theists the same.

I'm not sure of Dunne's method, but if he can afford to A) not pass the bar and B) fight the bar association, I am glad to see someone calling the sodomy-pushers to account for their attempts to screen out all non-perverts from their favored profession. As one facing a bar exam in a couple of weeks, I'm sure I'll face some of the same crap. Unfortunately, I need to enter the profession prior to working for its reformation.

Christian Reconstructionists Are Trying to Take Dominion in America
Johanna_G
by Johanna_G  7-2-2007    4
Er - not me, but the above quoted source says: The gathering, dubbed "Preparing This Generation to Capture the Future," was hosted by American Vision, a ministry that has been toiling away since 1978 to "help Christians build a truly Biblical worldview." In a conference handout, American Vision states that "By God's grace, we will work together to make America a truly Christian nation for our children's children." Based in Powder Springs, Ga., American Vision also produces reams of material that push Christian Reconstructionism, a form of fundamentalism that argues for a re-writing of American history, dismantling secular democracy and constructing an America governed by "biblical law." Reconstructionists seek to impose the criminal code of the Old Testament, applying the death penalty for homosexuals, adulterers, fornicators, witches, incorrigible juvenile delinquents and those who spread false religions.

Evolutions Death Toll
Rygar
by Rygar  6-14-2007    6
I read all the time how "christian's" have killed so many.... Which Means Catholics anyway, and I thought it would be interesting to see how many people the religion of the left has killed...I think it is also relevant to say that the difference between a communist and a socialist is that a communist is in a hurry with a gun. I see evolution as the religion of the left, because marxist ideals and tenants are rooted in the theory of evolution as a driving force. See Communist Manifesto. Also see Humanist Manifesto by John Dewey to see where leftist ideas come from. You see, communism/ secular humanism is responsible for far more deaths than people who follow Jesus. Anything to the contrary is propaganda.

This site asks you about your beliefs then takes a stab at figuring out what your religion is... I'm proud of my results - I looked long and hard to find a church that was "as close as possible to Judaism while still believing in Jesus." The results of this survey show that at least they understand that much about me :)

The Truth Project: Bible "boot camp" for Bible-illiterate evangelicals
enbar

A very scornful and derisive piece on Focus on the Family's "Truth Project", a two-day, $179-a-head Bible seminar aimed at evangelicals who don't know the Bible as well as they should. An interesting phenomenon, but, in my opinion, a terrible article.
