Easy Assessment Tool
Ilsadago1
by Ilsadago1  12-30-2008
It only took me about 3 minutes...As a nurse, I think this is so important because it's a cancer that hides for a long time, but is so easily cured if found early (age 50 or so). The polyps are removed during a colonoscopy and usually that's it! And we give really really good drugs for the procedure - the prep is what sucks.

Bush Department of Education Scandal Deepens
rpassman
by rpassman  5-16-2007
Alleged conflict of interest charges now swarm around the DoED's sponsorship and use of the Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy Skills (DIBELS). DIBELS serves as the flagship assessment instrument for the billion dollar a year Reading First program administered by the DoED. In addition to significant charges of not properly screening consultants, many of whom had financial ties to DIBLES, the DoED appears to have promoted the use of DIBELS over any other early literacy indicator. Furthermore, DIBELS does not appear to be a good indicator of whether or not children understand what they read. DIBELS also tends to be biased in favor of children that come from literacy-rich environments according to Samuel J. Meisels, president of the Erickson Institute for Advanced Study in Child Development.

Army Signs More Dropouts (but excludes them from quality calculations)...Hmmm
gingembre
by gingembre  11-23-2006    1
"Lt. Gen. Michael Rochelle, the Army’s deputy chief of staff for personnel, put on a happy face. Rochelle referred to a “very challenging recruiting environment” but he did not blame, say, a divisive war in Iraq. Instead, he said, youth are “being influenced by what they see in the liberal media, both about the nature and the quality of the force Retired Gen. Barry McCaffrey also showered praise on current forces, particularly the caliber of non-commissioned officers...“Generally speaking,” he said, “we’ve quadrupled the number of lowest mental category …we’ve quadrupled the number of non-high school graduates…we’re putting six, seven, eight thousand moral criminal waivers into the armed forces.”As recruit quality falls, he said, battalion and squadron leaders are facing more readiness challenges. “Cocaine use is reappearing. Lots of pregnancy among young women emerging from” advanced individual training reporting to units, he said. The armed forces are too small,

Why Go To Class When its On Your iPod?
ngdaly4
by ngdaly4  3-20-2006    3
It will not be long before college students will have access to lectures, class notes, and answers, basically everything one picks up by going to class, from teachers all through their iPod. The beauty of this is you'll never miss anything important because it will always be right there in your pocket to check on later. I tell you what though. Had my college classes been so easily available online for use with my iPod I almost never would have gone (especially does evil Friday morning classes, well, and the Wednesday morning classes too). I know what you might say if you knew the extent of my class attendence in college, but remember, there's a good chance you can get into the Hall of Fame by batting 3 for 5 every week for four years. And also, this sort of information freedom is precisely what's celebrated among adults, allowing them to work from home. As Socrates said, "Employ your time in improving yourself by other men's writings, so that you shall gain easily what others h
