POPSMassive Storm Erupts On The Surface Of The Sun "Sunspot 1024 is crackling with B- and C-class solar flares. The activity is so intense, astronomers can't seem to take a picture of the sunspot without catching a flare in action. Pete Lawrence sends this example from his backyard observatory in Selsey, UK: 'Active region 1024 is putting on a fantastic show,' says Lawrence. 'The center of this region is incredibly bright and fluctuating.' Solar observers haven't seen an active region like this one in more than two years. It is big, complex, and rapidly growing..." * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * But not to worry: the Democrats' "Crap-and-Tax" plan will save our climate from the effects of solar storms. POPS Who Invented The Automobile? This question does not have a straightforward answer. The history of the automobile is very rich and dates back to the 15th century when Leonardo da Vinci was creating designs and models for transport vehicles. A table of some automobile firsts, compiled from information in Leonard Bruno's book Science and Technology Firsts (Detroit, c1997) and About.com's History of the Automobile. VIEW TABLE AT LINK: http://www.loc.gov/rr/scitech/mysteries/auto.html There are many different types of automobiles - steam, electric, and gasoline - as well as countless styles. Exactly who invented the automobile is a matter of opinion. If we had to give credit to one inventor, it would probably be Karl Benz from Germany. Many suggest that he created the first true automobile in 1885/1886.
