POPSU.S. prof 1st woman to win Nobel economics prize Issues of governance have been at the heart of the ongoing world economic crisis. The failure by boards of directors, for instance, to police excessive compensation, or prevent bonuses that reward excessive risk taking, can be considered a corporate governance issue.

POPSOne person's bully is another one's friend Somewhat long, but worth reading. More: This learning experience was one of the most memorable ones in my fifteen year career. I learnt that some situations require spontaneity and a flexible approach. It also reinforced my belief that a good mentor knows her students. The successful resolution of this situation came about because the students cared for and respected me. I always endeavour to understand my pupils, and I work with them to forge good relationships and respect. I pay attention to detail and I care passionately about the welfare and well-being of my students and through my work I impart values of decency and trust, and the value of human relationships. I never underestimate the importance of the learning environment and the impact classroom dynamics have on students’ ability to learn. Providing the students with outstanding curriculum material presented and taught in an accomplished way is sometimes not enough.

POPS Carbongate Little evidence? Outdated U.N. research? No reason to rush? This is not what the Obama administration and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi were telling us when they were rushing to force a Friday vote on Waxman-Markey. We were given the impression that unless we passed this cap-and-tax fiasco, polar bears would be extinct by the Fourth of July. "A new 2009 paper by Scafetta and West," the report says, "suggests that the IPCC used faulty solar data in dismissing the direct effect of solar variability on global temperatures. Their report suggests that solar variability could account for up to 68% of the increase in Earth's global temperatures." The report was the product of Alan Carlin, senior operations research analyst at the EPA's National Center for Environmental Economics (NCEE). He's been with the EPA for 38 years but now has been taken off all climate-related work. Thomas Fuller, environmental policy blogger with the San Francisco Examiner, wrote Thursday in a story developed

POPSGermany denies most evil patent ever There always has to be someone to take the next step. This is yet another way to kill someone on command. A means of controlling a person to do an evil persons (or governments) bidding. I would not be surprised to learn it is in use in Saudi Arabia already as slave control.

POPSRepair mission to the Hubble Space Telescope CAPE CANAVERAL, Florida (AP) -- Atlantis' astronauts headed out for another spacewalk Friday, this time to give the Hubble Space Telescope some new, badly needed gyroscopes and batteries. Replacing Hubble's gyroscopes is the top priority for this final repair mission to the 19-year-old observatory. The gyroscopes are part of the telescope pointing system, and half of the old ones are broken. It was the second spacewalk in as many days for the Atlantis astronauts. On Thursday, another two-man team installed a powerful new camera and a computer data unit, after struggling with a stubborn bolt. NASA hoped for an easier, less stressful spacewalk Friday. In all, five spacewalks are planned so that the observatory -- beloved by astronomers and many others for its breathtaking views of the universe -- is at its apex while living out its remaining years. POPSAl Gore, Climate Change Coward? You'd think if Gore and the other Gaia worshipers were right and the anti-AGW crowd are nothing but flat earthers, they'd welcome the opportunity to make them look like idiots on such a big stage.

POPSAngels & Demons: It's A Thriller, Not A Crusade - May Face Vatican Boycott Had Mr. Donohue and his allies waited to see Angels & Demons before criticizing it, they would have seen references to struggles within the Church between faith and science, but they would also have seen clear signs of support for the pursuit of science at the highest levels of the Vatican. Indeed, one of the first scenes of the movie depicts a scientist at the high-tech CERN laboratory...and he is a priest.

POPSYeah! Let the Students Decide I, for one, totally applaud the actions of the Texas Board of Education in their wise decision that let's the students of Texas participate in the ongoing dialogs. In fact, they should be expanded! Teach Tantric sex alongside abstinence and let the students decide. Teach Alchemy alongside Chemistry and let the students decide. Teach Astrology with Astronomy and let the students decide. Gravity is just a theory; in actuality the earth sucks! Earth's round! How absurd. Teach the flat earth theory as well. It seems fair to me.
