Stockholm Syndrome: Swedes Held Hostage to CO2 Terrorism
merrie
by merrie  10-23-2009
Next year, KRAV, Scandinavia’s main organic certification program, will start requiring farmers to convert to low-emissions techniques if they want to display its coveted seal on products, meaning that most greenhouse tomatoes can no longer be called organic. Those standards have stirred some protests. “There are farmers who are happy and farmers who say they are being ruined,” said Johan Cejie, manager of climate issues for KRAV. For example, he said, farmers with high concentrations of peat soil on their property may no longer be able to grow carrots, since plowing peat releases huge amounts of carbon dioxide; to get the organic label, they may have to switch to feed crops that require no plowing.

Charles Darwin film ‘too controversial for religious America’
disenchantedcitizen
by disenchantedcitizen  9-13-2009    11
Afraid of controversy? This country has been mired in controvery for ages. Movieguide.org is the source of the controversy in this instance. Describing Darwin as "a racist, a bigot and an1800s naturalist whose legacy is mass murder" only proves their own bigotry and intolerance for any belief not their own. To say Darwin’s theory is ‘half-baked’ when supported by insurmountable scientifically backed evidence while only ‘faith’ backs up their belief is pure religious zealotry. To condemn Darwin’s theory as ‘half-baked’ while zealously clinging to faith without scientific proof is amazingly short-sighted. I am not condemning believers, I am a believer myself, but to ridicule another person’s belief because it is different is hateful, extremely narrow-minded and very un-Christian.

Given the power of the extremists among the religious right, it is not so surprising. Religious extremists from Tehran to Texas spoil this world.

51 Headless Vikings Found in English Execution Pit?
kkcapricorn
by kkcapricorn  8-3-2009    2
"You've got Danish and Saxon armies fighting backwards and forwards across England," The early English also faced the threat of longship-sailing Vikings, Scandinavian seafarers who pillaged coastal regions. The team hopes chemical analysis of the buried men's teeth will show whether they grew up in Britain or Scandinavia. (Related: "Vikings Filed Their Teeth, Skeleton Study Shows.") Signs of muscle attachment on the bones could also help reveal whether the executed were Viking oarsmen, since "strong physical exertion in a particular direction does affect the bones,"

"Skyscraper greenhouses to sprout in crowded cities"
cakebelly

more: That way, "we would save 70 percent on the cost of fresh produce because right now 70 percent of the price is transport and storage costs," he said. Fresh and healthy produce would thereby also become more readily available to those with slim budgets, he added. No vertical greenhouse exists yet, but "several cities in Scandinavia and in China have expressed an interest," Hassle said. Each installation would cost around 30 million dollars (21 million euros), much more than a regular greenhouse. But the investment would rapidly turn a profit, he insisted.

Friday the 13th History
merrie
by merrie  3-13-2009
It is also said that people are fearful of driving that the rate of accidents on this day of superstition is lower than any other. It is one of the most feared days of the year. It is a superstition about a day of good or bad luck and derives from Greek words meaning “Friday, thirteen, fear”. There is no evidence for a “Friday the 13th” superstition before the 19th century. The earliest known source of such a superstition was in 1869 biography of Gioachino Rossini. However, many believe that the superstition had been passed down by oral tradition. The following has lots of facts and information on the origins of cultural religious&spiritual histories. How The Fear Of Friday the 13th Began . . . http://www.brownielocks.com/fridaythe13th.html

RIP --beautiful Aqsa Parvez
Antara
by Antara  2-23-2009    5
Another gorgeous girl dies at the hands of her "family"....and the gruesome 'honour killing' death toll continues. This story is even more distressing in that a movement to try and place a proper marker/memorial( in place of the number 774) on her grave has been met with both a stunning refusal from her family (also her executioners) and, of course, spineless bs spouted by the ongoing fear based 'DHIMMITUDE ' that continues to plague supposed 'civilized nations' worldwide. Pam Geller from Atlas Shrugged is on the case...GO PAM!! http://atlasshrugs2000.typepad.com/atlas_shrugs/2008/12/canada-no-heads.html
