POPSObama's Malignant Narcissism
When Obama runs into brick walls, he seems to reflexively go into a state of rage. The same thing will happen to Obama if and when he loses the election in 2012. Since narcissists in power keep people around them in a constant state of fear -- everybody gets targeted and feels insecure -- you can expect a ton of dirty tricks in elections to come. But then Democrats constantly use dirty tricks. I fear two things with Obama. One is if the GOP fails to elect a House majority in 2010 to keep Obama within the bounds of sanity. A GOP majority is essential for the safety of the country and the world. But even if Obama is defeated in 2012, he will just turn into an angrier version of Al Gore and Jimmy Carter. He will haunt the political future of this country as long as he is alive, because that famished ego never gets enough. Malignant narcissism often gets worse over time. So even if the voters throw out this very dangerous cult-like administration, you can expect Obama to be poppi

POPSReefer sanity In an act of merciful sanity, the Obama administration has made good on its promise to stop interfering with states that allow the medical use of marijuana. It's a good move, long overdue. But is it enough? Not quite.

POPSHopi Moved to Side with Coal Power Over Its Culture Sad. When marginalized indigenous peoples are forced to extend their marginalization out of need for money to survive in a world not of their making. There are Hopi who warned of this when Hopi and other indigenous peoples were forced by the US to adopt US self-government forms and discard their traditional ways of governing themselves. In the end culture is all a people have to support their sanity and survival - that applies to us as well. Money does not equal culture!

POPSThe President's Health Care & Activist Campaign I got this email from the White House today, leading to this site. Good, clear info on the President's health care proposals and makes it easy to let our politicians know how we feel about it. Um....it's amazing how many lies and hate have been put on the President for this, I mean, it's a proposal to extend and reduce the cost of health care....how, exactly, does that justify being called "Hitler," or a Liar during a speech to a joint session of Congress, is way beyond sanity or normal expectations of respect. So...if you got time to post, you got time to do this.

POPSGlenn Beck, anti-communist art critic? More: Fair enough. That’s cable television for you. On to a bigger question: Does Beck know what he’s talking about? Absolutely not, says Christopher Knight, an art critic (a real one) for the Los Angeles Times. Beck was as “nutty as usual,” Knight wrote: He pointed to a portrait of Lenin in Mexican master Diego Rivera’s destroyed Rockefeller lobby mural, “Man at the Crossroads,” but forgot to mention that old John D. had the mural removed because of it. (Facts are stubborn things — even more stubborn than demagoguery.) With comedy stylings like that, Beck is turning out to be the Harold Harby of our day. Who was Harold Harby? A Los Angeles city councilman in the early 1950s, Harby took up propaganda-arms with a paranoid group of right-wing loonies called the Society for Sanity in Art. They made it their patriotic duty to search out Communist symbols they just knew were hidden in that weird, postwar abstract art.

POPSFranken Talks Down Angry (Townhall) Mob Wow, Al Franken talks to a townhall type crowd and encourages them to listen to reason... There were the usual disapproving eye rolls and head shakes, you know those child-like gestures that have gone rabid along with the hootin an a hollerin at other town-hall meetings. But and I mean a BIG BUT, he made so much sense talking reason in a calm collected manner they couldn't help but allow some of that rationale penetrate their closed minds. Let’s give a loud hurrah for our guy Al Franken. Everyone should watch this video, it may be hard to hear because of the background noise but this proves that reason and sanity cannot be drowned out! thinkingblue

POPSa solace in words What comfort has reading brought you? What courage has a well-turned phrase stirred in you? Books are like steadfast friends: the words never change, yet I never tire of reading them. One of my favorite sounds on Earth is the gentle shushing of pages turning. What will the next page bring? comfort, joy, peace, sanity, conviction, courage, hope, relief, laughter? Exciting, isn't it?

POPSHow To Deny Reality In One Easy Leftist Lesson . . . denier will ultimately resort when impeded in his quest to avoid reality. As a psychiatrist, I would be the last person to suggest that even a primitive and immature psychological defense mechanism like denial didn't have some positive results for the individuals who use it. Obviously, if it resulted in the outright death or dismemberment of the person using it, denial would probably not last long as a viable strategy in the real world; nor would it be particularly helpful for the species as a whole. The truth is that frequently denial works--at least for a short while--and that is why it is so often resorted to in extremis. Some of the positive consequences of psychological denial include: • In the short-term, psychological denial can help a person maintain their sanity--which would be threatened by awareness of a painful truth or reality • In the short-term, denial can help a person function day to day

POPSVictory at the Cost of Sanity in Obama’s Forever War The tired old mentality of the U.S. military, actually any military, is “There is no alternative to victory.” What is considered victory, the complete subjugation of the enemy? What would be considered a victory for the U.S. in Afghanistan? If we think we are going to eradicate terrorism and hatred towards the U.S. then we are sadly mistaken. Victory comes in many different forms. At this point in time I would consider it a victory to get our troops home without any further loss of life, our troops as well as civilians at the hands of America’s war machine, accidental though they may be. It really doesn’t matter who rules Afghanistan or Iraq after we leave, assuming there are plans to ever leave. We need to get back home and divert some of the obscene amount of money being thrown at the pentagon and put it towards domestic purposes, like schools and healthcare. We can defend our borders just fine from within our borders.

POPSReform Supporters Outnumber Critics At Town Halls And when Rep. Ben Ray Lujan (D-N.M.) held a forum on health care reform he drew an overflow crowd, with a majority on the Democratic lawmaker's side. "A large majority of those present at the first discussion applauded Lujan when he stressed several times that he was in favor of a public option and when Lujan and other panelists criticized insurance companies."

POPSThe end of Death The psychologist Ernest Becker wrote in his pulitzer prize winning book, “The Denial of Death,” that in the face of an acute and agonizing awareness of his mortality, man has developed three main devices to sustain his sanity. These illusions act as temporary solutions to the problem of death. The Religious Solution The Religious Solution invents the concept of God and projects onto him the power to grant us what we all really want: the ability to bestow eternal life on ourselves an our loved ones; to be freed from disease, decay and death. The Romantic Solution The second illusion Becker identifies - when we no longer believe in God, we then turn our lovers into gods and goddesses. When in love, man can “forget himself in the delirium of sex, and still be marvelously quickened in the experience”. We are temporarily relieved from the drag of “the animality that haunts our victory over decay and death.” When in love, we become immortal gods.
