10 Amazing Facts About Worldwide Water Use
mcsmithblack
by mcsmithblack  10-17-2009
More facts: Since 1950, water usage in the United States has risen 127 percent. If you shorten your showers by just a single minute, you can save approximately 700 gallons of water in a month. Letting the tap run when you brush your teeth wastes up to 4 gallons of water every time. It takes an average of 300 gallons to water your lawn. During the summer, this can account for almost half of your water usage. It takes an average of 300 gallons to water your lawn. During the summer, this can account for almost half of your water usage. Another wasteful desert endeavor, the proposed Waveyards water park in Mesa, Arizona will require up to 100 million gallons of groundwater every year in an area that receives a mere 8 inches of rainfall in that time. This last is particularly insane. All the Western states are in desperate need of water for crops and other basic uses. The Colorado River no longer reaches the sea. Salmon spawning grounds have almost disappeared and major animal (as we

The Spirit Bear
ljsdesign
by ljsdesign  10-2-2009    3
While the white bears are protected by law, the other ninety percent...the ones that carry the gene but don't show the coloration...are fair game. Also, timber companies are interested in logging the islands and areas where these bears live. For the past couple of years debate has been heating up over a proposed park centered on Princess Royal Island. "Spirit Bear Park" would encompass 265,000 hectares, (1,000 sq. miles "ish"), and provide complete protection for the ten or fifteen white bears that live there and their black kin, as well as grizzlies, wolves, ancient stands of Sitka Spruce, and important spawning streams for salmon. The B.C. government has counter-proposed a 39,000 hectare park, giving the rest to loggers. The clear-cutting began last year. We will just have to wait and see what kind of impact it has on the bears. Black bears of any color are pretty good at adapting to man, and I think that in the long run, the Kermode Bear will survive, even if it's numbers are reduce

Healthy eaters putting wild fish stocks at risk
disenchantedcitizen
by disenchantedcitizen  9-9-2009    4
In order for fish to properly produce the desired omega-3 fatty acids they need to eat other wild fish. Raising fish in farms, essentially hand feeding them, does not allow fish to produce the desired healthy properties for which fish are valued. Herbaceous fish, such as tilapia, carp and trout are fed fishmeal and oil solely to increase their yields. These fish are beneficial to humans without the further depletion of wild fish. So what you say? This practice places an unnecessary strain on already over fished wildlife and unfavorably affects the price of fish. Farm fish do not taste as good as wild fish, they are not as healthy for us as wild fish and they are endangering wild fish habits wherever farm fisheries are built. This article on Salmon fisheries should get your attention: http://www.farmedanddangerous.org/news/148

Fall colors fade in U.S. west as Aspen Trees die
BobbyRutan
by BobbyRutan  9-4-2009
Dale Bartos, aspen ecologist with the Rocky Mountain Research Station, is cautious about using climate-based forecasts to predict an end to aspen. "I see aspen moving up and down the hillsides with climate change," he said. "As it dries out, we may see aspen on the lower end move up the hill. I don't think the answer is cut and dried." Others foresee a grim outlook for a tree long associated with the appeal of the West. "What we think will happen is that aspen will disappear in some areas and there will not be anything we can do about it," said SAD expert Wayne Shepperd. A study by the federal Rocky Mountain Research Station presented just such a scenario. It predicted the near total disappearance of aspen in the Rocky Mountain region by 2090. The research, to be published in Forest Ecology and Management, concludes that up to 41 percent of Western forests would be unable to support aspen by 2030. That figure would rise to 75 percent by 2060 and as much as 94 percent

Red Lobster Read This - Illegals Coming Off the Menu!
nedhamson1
by nedhamson1  9-1-2009
Red Lobster is not the only organization that profits from illegally obtained marine life that ends up on the menu but they are one of the largest seafood fast food retailers. So the price of fame - get singled out - grin. They used to say you could walk on the water on backs of cod when they were running off the coast of Maine and Massachusetts - no more. Of course they used to say that about salmon in Scotland, the Pacific Northwest, tuna off the California coast, Abalone off of California - Norte and Baja but no more. Gotta have fish three times a day since you gave up you beef or pig three times a day? Think again! Go rent the movie Soylent Green and think about it being about the world in 2020!

Natural Immune System Boosters That Will Rebuild Your Health
junebug2
by junebug2  8-22-2009
0ne of the most recent natural immune system boosters that can turn your life around are the inclusion of Omega-3 fatty acids into your diet. Foods that contain omega 3 fatty acids include salmon, mackerel, and tuna. Fish oil supplements can be taken if you are not a big fish eater. While adding supplements to your daily routine, try the natural ones first and then add some of the boosters that are available online.
