POPSWho is responsible for genocide? Was the 3,000+ men, women and children massacred at Sabra and Shatila under Zionist supervision not genocide? When the IDF brought the Lebanese Christian Phalangist militiamen into the camp, didn't they know exactly what would happen? This is specially so when it was Mossad who assassinated the Phalangist leader Bachir Gemayel two days before but blamed the innocent Palestinians.

POPSIsraeli doc-animation made of Sabra & Shatila massacre The killings by Phalangist militiamen dispatched into the camps by Israel came after their leader, Bashir Gemayel, president-elect of Lebanon , was assassinated in a bombing wrongly blamed on Palestinians . An Israeli state commission of inquiry set up as a result of a tide of public protest in the massacre's wake found that Mr Sharon , today comatose from a stroke nearly three years ago, bore "personal responsibility" for not having foreseen the danger that the Phalangists would commit the slaughter. He was forced to give up the defence portfolio, something that did not prevent him from being elected as premier in 2001 and re-elected in 2003 . Lebanon, for its part, has never seriously investigated the massacre.

Israel sealed off the camps for three days, while Lebanese militias, notably the Lebanese Forces, went on a killing spree, targeting defenseless civilians. Between 800 and 2,000 Palestinians, and 100 Lebanese, died as Israeli troops watched the militiamen carry out mass murder in Sabra and Shatila.
