I try to treat these subjects seriously. On behalf of all Englishmen, to the policeman who stopped this young man, to the politicians who will do nothing except add on to their expenses, to all those who cannot do anything without need for reward, go boil yer heads. It's instances like this that make me want to vote BNP. Can you imagine the Canadians, Yanks or Russians taking this nonsense?

VaTech, D.O.E, Russians, collaborators study rare microorganism that produces hydrogen
pitim
by pitim  7-8-2008
So we finally found a clean energy solution ? guess not - no2liberals writes "I’m all for new sources of energy, but one has to look at the downside. The only emission from hydrogen as a fuel is water vapor, which happens to be the single greatest greenhouse gas. Do we really want vehicles and power plants spewing more of the gas that traps 80% of all radiant heat within the first thirty feet of atmosphere?"

Report: Bush LIED "reduced, marginalised, or mischaracterised"
righthand
by righthand  6-4-2008    2
Nothing new. Watch now as his lackeys discover that they have some backbone, sadly missing for years, as the lame duck fills his days sticking his greasy fingers in all the spouting dikes. Tricky Dick had nothing on this bastard. A world at war, the dollar sinking, 4,000 dead US soldier to a coward c-in-c, chaotic climate, worst recession in 50 years, FEAR endemic, civil rights shot to hell, Gitmo, torture, rendition, kangaroo courts, WMD and on and on synonymous with the United States. One million Russians couldn't damage America to the extent that Bush has. A fresh start is your only salvation! Tricky was an angle in comparison. Why isn't Bush - the bushwhacker - impeached. Why is the tail still wagging the dog?

For a long time now, I've preferred practical, in-camera effects over computer graphics. The human eye *knows* when it's looking at a real explosion, or a real person getting thrown from a horse, or a real dam collapsing and water gushing through. I doubt the problem of the Uncanny Valley will ever be solved. I kind of hope it never is.

Billionaire to set up magazine for snobs
Antara
by Antara  4-24-2008
Russia's super-rich love to flaunt their wealth. Soon they will have a magazine called Snob to help them Prokhorov, 42, made his fortune in the chaotic 1990s when businessmen bought up parts of former Soviet industries for a fraction of their real value. The Forbes Rich List ranked Prokhorov as the 24th richest person in the world. He is one of the owners of Norilsk Nickel, the world's biggest nickel producer, and Polyus Gold, Russia's biggest gold producer. According to the Oxford English Dictionary's online edition, www.askoxford.com, a snob is: "A person who has an exaggerated respect for high social position or wealth and who looks down on those regarded as socially inferior." Shmarov said Russians attach a different meaning to the word, "Snob to us means a person who is a 'self-made man', a person who has gained a right to snobbishness," he said emphasizing the main difference with the British meaning which he said referred to inherited wealth.

Tax Dollars Supporting Countries That Undermine American Ideals And Interests
merrie
by merrie  3-27-2008
Use the form to e-mail President Bush, demanding that American aid dollars be for countries committed to upholding our democratic and free-market ideals. In addition, the US Trade and Development Agency has recently authorized nearly $400,000 of for a study on a proposed rail line between a coal mine in Southern Mongolia and the railroad. In other words, taxpayer-funded foreign aid to Mongolia is being used to undermine American ideals and interests, and embolden anti-freedom elites not only in Mongolia, but in Moscow as well. Why is Mongolia flouting Western interests and ideals despite our nation’s generosity, you ask? Simply put, the Russians and a few elite Mongolians would benefit if Western firms were forced to stop doing business in Mongolia and the region. This is an outrage that must not go unchecked

IMMIGRANTS: The Russians are coming!?
righthand
by righthand  3-6-2008
"Asked if they would remain in their homelands or emigrate if given the opportunity, only 13%t said they would opt to stay. Of the 87% who preferred to emigrate, only 36% said they would choose to live in Israel, while 51% mentioned other countries. 31% of respondents are considering immigrating to Israel within the next four years, and 42% said they are not considering aliyah at all. However, 6% were willing to come to Israel for academic studies. These numbers reflect the decreasing pace of immigration from the former Soviet Union, which peaked in the 1990s at 100,000 immigrants a year and currently stands at a few thousand annually. ...Haaretz This migration giving the world the problems of today.

Mark Shuttleworth - Space Man

by pokkets  2-26-2008
Of course Ubuntu/Linux is my latest preoccupation (apart from clipmarks) and when I read he was behind it, and was described as an 'Entrepreneur' so I had to find out more. There are more than a few types of 'Entrepreneur' when I saw that a few years ago he was most famous for going with the Russians to the International Space Station, (It's easy to forget much of what happened more than 7 years ago) I thought it would even have made the Russians laugh, and that isn't easy. He's involved in community projects in South Africa, concerning Education and free software, to allow greater access to learning, and computer technology. He's also been to Antarctica aboard a Russian Icebreaker.
