Obama Skips Anniversary of Fall of Berlin Wall, Sends a Video.....About Himself
merrie
by merrie  11-10-2009    2
Did He Not Show Up Because It Wasn’t All About Him? Left-wing German paper Der Spiegel seems to have gotten that impression: Der Spiegel summed up as “People of the World, Look at Me”. http://www.spiegel.de/international/world/0,1518,567932,00.html Even worse- Obama spoke about himself to the crowd: “Few would have seen on that day that… that their American ally would be led by a man of African descent.” And, of course, he did not mention Ronald Reagan or Margaret Thatcher in his speech.

Russia Reconsiders
debbyski
by debbyski  11-2-2009    2
"There's no question that Stalin is undergoing a sort of renaissance in Russia. Despite the many millions killed or sent to labor camps during his reign, many now view his rule with a sort of hazy nostalgia. "The cynical position of the Stalinphobes is that only innocent people were kept in the gulag," he said. "Criminals who violated the law were kept in the gulag. And let the Western reader ask himself, should criminals be kept in spas or resort hotels?" Meanwhile, Stalin's image and name, systematically bleached out as the waning Soviet empire began to grapple with its bloody past, are creeping back into Russian life. His name was restored this fall to a Moscow metro station. His unmistakable mustached face beams from the wall of Soviet Meatpies, a kitschy diner downtown."

Obama would allow Russians to visit U.S. nuclear sites
pkronfield
by pkronfield  10-14-2009    1
How is it this cursed administration would allow Russians access when they do not allow us full access? Are these people loony? Like I said, Obama is an enemy of the U.S. He is indeed a Trojan Horse whose mission is to destroy America financially, socially, and militarily.

Bombing the Moon Gives A New Meaning to Lunatics
celestialdancer
by celestialdancer  10-10-2009    21
So how much does a metaphor weigh? A lot more than NASA thinks. The first man on the moon wasn't an American or a Russian, it was The Man in the Moon we all saw when we were kids, and somebody older showed him to us. That's the first man on the moon, her permanent resident, and now he's got a NASA rocket at his backside... They used to call the mentally ill lunatics. But now I wonder who the real lunatics are. And if there is water on the moon, what are we going to do with it? Grow moon-corn for ethanol until we kill the Earth? Such a great article it touched something, it really touched something more beautiful than finding water on the moon.

Why are feminists like Azar Nafisi called "right wing" "neo cons?"
Roque Nuevo
by Roque Nuevo  10-7-2009    1
The quotes in the clip are welcome antidotes to the attitude our Beloved Leader is flacking towards the Islamic Republic of Iran. But the article itself leads into the story of <p>"a vibrant and beautiful young girl, Neda Agha-Soltan, and not the men who rule over Iran has become a symbol of Iranian people's fight for democracy and pluralism. Her murder, like those of Politkovskaya and Estermirova, gives the lie to the claims of those who vainly tried to silence them, and reminds the rest of us that we neither should or can evade the truth and its consequences."</p> The article is about a journalism award in honor of the Russian journalist, Ana Politkovskaya. She says that it was Politkovskaya's <p>"single-minded commitment to truth, and her demand for justice, that made her so dangerous to the tyrants in her country and inconvenient to leaders of western democracies.</p> More than this, Nafisi takes us on a world historical tour of feminists and feminism.

Smart Power! Results May Not Be The Same as Implied or Expected
merrie
by merrie  10-3-2009    1
That would be the same Mohammed El-Baradei that, you know, conveniently left out of the IAEA reports the part concerning Iran’s work on nuclear weapons; the same El-Baradei that considers himself a world peacemaker that’s doing God’s work! This is the guy the administration is going to rely on to “coordinate the details” of the Qum inspection schedule and regimen? This is the kind of Smart Power ! that’s guiding our nation’s most urgent and sensitive foreign policy actions; yet another example of the President’s Brilliance! and Judgement! perhaps? It’s been observed by some of his opponents that all of Obama’s promises have an expiration date, but a few months ago nobody would have believed that the time period would become this short! And I guess it’s safe to say that his proclamation that, “a nuclear Iran is unacceptable“, has expired too; after all, they’re just words …

DNA test shows Hitler skull is that of a woman
infidel70

A year later, skull fragments were dug up by Russian forces which seemed to confirm Hitler had shot himself in the bunker. In 1970, the KGB cremated Hitler’s remains except for the skull fragment. Dr Bellantoni was sceptical about the theory the skull fragments belong to Eva Braun, who was with Hitler in the bunker where he supposedly died. "There is no report of Eva Braun having shot herself or having been shot afterwards. It could be anyone. Many people were killed around the bunker area," he said.

Russian Professor Predicts End of U.S.
billpar
by billpar  9-23-2009    4
Interest in his forecast revived this fall when he published an article in Izvestia, one of Russia's biggest national dailies. In it, he reiterated his theory, called U.S. foreign debt "a pyramid scheme," and predicted China and Russia would usurp Washington's role as a global financial regulator. Americans hope President-elect Barack Obama "can work miracles," he wrote. "But when spring comes, it will be clear that there are no miracles." People like him have forecast similar cataclysms before, he says, and been right. He cites French political scientist Emmanuel Todd. Mr. Todd is famous for having rightly forecast the demise of the Soviet Union -- 15 years beforehand. "When he forecast the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1976, people laughed at him," says Prof. Panarin.

Afghanistan is not Iraq, Viet Nam, or Cleveland
nedhamson1
by nedhamson1  9-21-2009
Seems as though we have to learn and relearn the most common of military lessons. Seems someone has not even watch the iconic Eastwood flick "Heartbreak Ridge" on how to survive and win "You're Marines now. You adapt. You overcome. You improvise," says Eastwood's character. As several marines, one US and one Aussie, advised about the same topic: Trust the terrain, not the map. The plan calls for training Afghans to fight the fight we want them to fight and the way we would fight it. People who care about each other, innovate, adapt, and overcome win - or at least don't lose because they took the advise of someone 10,000 miles away with no eyes on the ground and butt on the line.

Can trauma cause dementia?
foxyarse
by foxyarse  9-15-2009    1
She said: 'They had suffered extreme stress, losing their homes, and having their lives threatened, sometimes by people who were once their neighbours. 'The ones who had the worst symptoms (of dementia) now were those who had suffered most at the time. 'These people needed help when they were ten or 20, not when they were 65.' Dr Ritchie continued: 'Although research has not been carried out on Second World War veterans it is fair to assume that a lot of the dementia we have here in that age group is a result of the war. 'There are people around the world still suffering the trauma of war and other disasters and they too could be part of future generations of dementia. 'We in the post-war generation are lucky to have escaped that kind of large-scale trauma, but it does raise the question of how we would cope if we were faced now with that kind of situation.' She added: 'We are all a bit like Russian dolls. It may be the child inside us that carries the risk factor.'
