Robert Bateman in Russia
Socratoad
by Socratoad  10-17-2009    5
Another environmentally themed work is Castor Canadensis, in which Bateman depicts “a very frightened and angry beaver” standing in the middle of a highway. “It could be about to get run over by a big machine, which is a symbol of what’s happening to wildlife in Canada.”

10 Strangest Japanese Toys
cakebelly
by cakebelly  7-29-2009
The Obama & Pregnant dolls have been features on CM before but I clipped them again, anyway, Here's the info for the last toy featured. "Kaba Kick is a Russian Roulette for kids, well in this case a Japanese Roulette. The player points the gun at his or her own head and pulls the trigger. Instead of bullets, a pair of feet kick out from the barrel (which is shaped like a pink hippo). If the gun doesn't fire, the player earns points. I would surely like my kids playing this healthy game. (Source)"

Michael Obama's style on latest world tour

I've never given a thought to First Lady fashions -- believe me -- but now the topic and photos interests me. After all, if you going to have your picture taken by a thousand people in fashion-conscious Italy, what DO you wear? Then, what's a good dress to meet with the Pope? Gotta have some fashions for colorful Africa. And might it even be possible to impress the Russians? (Apparently - No, not enough fur). Meanwhile, she's a mother. Gotta dress the kids, too. And her past life was working in an office as a lawyer, not a model. She's doing pretty well, imo. And her husband has sure put most of his promises and major policies on track. Now we wait and see. Will there be a train crash or more celebrations down the line. Meanwhile, she's pretty cool to look at and the Prez quite cool, too. ...some Russian artist painted him dressed up as a hip, dazzling, Uncle Sam "house N#i#$gg#er." -- they got it wrong. He's really the 'Masta' da Plantation," now.

Marinetti futurists to Childish&Thompson stuckists
chara
by chara  2-20-2009
Futurism was an art movement that originated in Italy in the early 20th century. It was largely an Italian phenomenon, though there were parallel movements in Russia, England and elsewhere. The Italian writer Filippo Tommaso Marinetti was its founder and most influential personality. The Stuckists have grown to an international movement and as of November 2008 numbered 183 (affiliated but independent) groups in 44 countries. In October 2000, Regan Tamanui founded the Melbourne Stuckists, the first one outside the UK. On 27.10.2000, he staged the Real Turner Prize Show at the Dead End Gallery in his home, concurrent with three shows with the same title in England (London, Falmouth and Dartington), and one in Germany, in protest against the Tate Gallery's Turner Prize. In 2000, Susan Constance founded the first US group The Pittsburgh Stuckists: "The new word in art is Stuckism. A Stuckist paints their life, mind and soul with no pretensions and no excuses."[
